Shelfanger Meadows

Shelfanger is a village situated about 3 miles from the town of Diss in Norfolk, England. There is a church and a village hall in the village. It covers an area of 6.99 km2 (2.70 sq mi) and had a population of 362 in 150 households at the 2001 census, the population increasing to 378 at the 2011 census. In years gone by there was a school, a post office, a pub, three shops, a blacksmiths and a garage run by a family of brothers called Bowman. These have all now been closed down. Josh Kirby (died 2001), an artist lived there.

Diss is a market town and electoral ward in South Norfolk, England, near the boundary with Suffolk, with a population of 7,572 in 2011. Diss railway station is on the Great Eastern Main Line between London and Norwich. It lies in the valley of the River Waveney, round a mere covering 6 acres (2.4 ha) and up to 18 feet (5.5 m) deep, although there is another 51 feet (16 m) of mud.

Winfarthing is a village and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It is located 6 km (4 mi) north of the town of Diss, 20 km (12 mi) east of the town of Thetford, and 30 km (19 mi) south of the city of Norwich. The gold and garnet Anglo Saxon Winfarthing pendant was found nearby in 2014. The civil parish has an area of 10.8 km2 (4.2 sq mi) and in the 2001 census had a population of 403 in 162 households, the population increasing to 503 at the 2011 Census. For the purposes of local government, the parish falls within the district of South Norfolk. The village is a prime example of a linear village, being strung out along the B1077 road between Diss and Attleborough for around 2 km (1+1⁄4 mi). It is home to the Fighting Cocks public house, All Saints Church of England Primary School and the grade I listed St Mary's church. Until the early 1990s it had a small Royal Mail Post Office and shop. There is still a red post box at the site of the old Post Office with regular collections. Farming is the primary local business, with several dairy, arable and pig farms in the surrounding area. Henry VIII is known to have visited the area. There was a large oak tree in the village at that time that was standing until the late 20th century.

Heywood is a civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. It was formed in 2003 from a part of the parish of Diss. It covers an area of 9.56 km2 (3.69 sq mi) and had a population of 175 in 63 households at the 2001 census, the population increasing to 222 in 79 households at the 2011 Census. For the purposes of local government, it falls within the district of South Norfolk.

The Corn Hall is a commercial building in St Nicholas Street, Diss, Norfolk, England. The structure, which is now used as an arts centre, is a Grade II listed building.

Diss High School is a secondary school and sixth form with academy status located in Diss, Norfolk, England. The school has approximately 931 pupils from ages 11 to 18.

Jay's Mill, Button's Mill or Victoria Road Mill is a tower mill at Diss, Norfolk, England which has been truncated and converted to residential accommodation.

Diss railway station is on the Great Eastern Main Line in the East of England, serving the market town of Diss, Norfolk. It is 94 miles 43 chains (152.1 km) down the line from London Liverpool Street and is situated between Stowmarket to the south and Norwich to the north. It is approximately 20 miles (32 km) south of Norwich. Its three-letter station code is DIS. The station is currently operated by Greater Anglia, who also operate all trains serving it, as part of the East Anglia franchise. Due to its location, Diss is the only station on the Greater Anglia network (and, by extension, one of the only stations in the UK) to be served exclusively by inter-city trains.

The Burston Strike School was founded as a consequence of a school strike and became the centre of the longest running strike in British history, that lasted from 1914 to 1939 in the village of Burston in Norfolk, England. Today, the building stands as a museum to the strike. Every year hundreds of people turn up for a rally to commemorate the 25-year strike over the jobs of Annie Higdon and her husband.

Palgrave is a village and civil parish in the Mid Suffolk district of Suffolk in eastern England. It is located on the south bank of the River Waveney, opposite Diss in Norfolk and adjacent to the Great Eastern Main Line. Palgrave has a small primary school, with St Peter’s Church located opposite, and is situated approximately 1 mile from Diss. It also has a green, park, pond, and cemetery. Palgrave had a population of 905 people in 366 households, according to the 2011 Census.Palgrave shares a significant historical link with its West/East road linking Great Yarmouth in Norfolk and Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk in the Domesday period (circa 1086).

St Andrew's Church is a redundant Anglican church in the civil parish of Scole, Norfolk, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. The church stands in an isolated position adjacent to Frenze Hall, near to the long-distance footpath, Boudica's Way (Boudicca Way), 1 mile (1.6 km) northeast of Diss.

Royal Air Force Fersfield or more simply RAF Fersfield (originally known as RAF Winfarthing) is a former Royal Air Force station located 16 miles (26 km) southwest of Norwich, Norfolk, England.
