Aexone or Aixone (Ancient Greek: Αἰξωνή) was a deme of ancient Attica situated on the coast south of Halimus. Aixone, along with neighbouring Halai Aixonidai, belonged to the Kekropis tribe. Aexone was celebrated for its fisheries.The site of Aexone is located at the modern Glyfada.

Glyfada (Greek: Γλυφάδα, pronounced [ɣliˈfaða]) is a town and a suburb in the South Athens regional unit located in the Athens Riviera along the coast of Saronic Gulf. It is situated in the southern parts of the Athens urban area. The area stretches from the foot of the Hymettus mountain to the Saronic Gulf.

On 7 October 1979, a Swissair DC-8 crashed while attempting to land at Athens-Ellinikon International Airport in Athens, Greece. Of the 154 passengers and crew on board, 14 were killed in the accident.

The Hellenikon Metropolitan Park (also called "the Ellinikon") is an urban development under construction in Hellinikon, Athens, Greece, on the site of the former Hellenikon International Airport.It is to include a park as well as luxury homes, hotels, a casino, a marina, shops, and offices and will have Greece's tallest buildings reaching up to 200 meters in height. Construction had been scheduled to begin in 2008 and be completed by 2013, but the plans were shelved in the midst of the financial crisis. In July 2020, work began on the park and is due to be completed in 2024, while the Riviera Tower and Hard Rock Hotel Casino are due to be completed by 2026.

Elliniko (Greek: Ελληνικό) is the current southern terminus on Athens Metro Line 2 since the Elliniko extension opened on 26 July 2013. With the opening of the station, travel time from Elliniko to Syntagma Square was reduced from 45 minutes (by car) to 20 minutes.

Its current total seating capacity is 3,500 people, of which 2,270 seats are permanent, and 1,228 are collapsible. The arena is mainly used to host volleyball, handball, and basketball games.

Since the 2011 local government reform, it is part of the municipality Elliniko-Argyroupoli, of which it is a municipal unit. Elliniko is known for the former Hellinikon Olympic Complex, a temporary sporting complex building on the grounds of the former Ellinikon International Airport used for the 2004 Summer Olympics and the 2004 Summer Paralympics. Elliniko is the site of a major development project for coastal Athens beginning in 2020 and due for completion in 2026 - the Hellenikon Metropolitan Park consisting of luxury homes, hotels, a casino, a marina, shops, offices and Greece's tallest buildings such as the Riviera Tower and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino.
