St. Joseph's Church and Complex is a historic church at 1401–1415 Howard Street in San Francisco, California, United States. It was built in 1914 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Folsom Street Fair (FSF) is an annual BDSM and leather subculture street fair, held in September, that caps San Francisco's "Leather Pride Week". The Folsom Street Fair, sometimes simply referred to as "Folsom", takes place on Folsom Street between 8th and 13th Streets, in San Francisco's South of Market district. The event started in 1984 and is California's third-largest single-day, outdoor spectator event and the world's largest leather event and showcase for BDSM products and culture. It has grown as a non-profit charity, and local and national non-profits benefit with all donations at the gates going to charity groups as well as numerous fundraising schemes within the festival including games, beverage booths and even spanking for donations to capitalize on the adult-themed exhibitionism.

New Langton Arts (1975–2009) was a not-for-profit arts organization focusing on contemporary art founded in 1975 in San Francisco, California. Part of the first wave of alternative art spaces in the US, New Langton Arts was a leader in exhibiting new media forms in art and involving artists in the decision-making process. Its first directors were Judy Moran and Renny Pritikin, who have been a central figures in the San Francisco Bay Area art scene for 30 years. Subsequent directors of New Langton Arts include Nancy Gonchar, Christiane Robbins, Susan Miller, and Sandra Percival. New Langton Arts focused on collaborating with artists on the "production and presentation of new work, exhibitions and events, that challenged the boundaries of conventional art practice while encouraging broad public appreciation and access to the art of our times."

Saint Joseph's Arts Society, run by the Saint Joseph's Arts Foundation, is an arts nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and arts community located at 1401 Howard Street in the South of Market neighborhood of San Francisco, California.

An important part of the counterculture of the 1970s, Project One- sometimes described as a technological commune - was an intentional community in San Francisco, California, U.S. Located at 1380 Howard St. in an 84,000 sq.ft warehouse, formerly an abandoned candy factory, the community functioned from 1970 to 1980 and was the first "warehouse community" in San Francisco. Occupied by a shifting mix of students, craftspeople, artisans, sculptors, filmmakers, and technologists, Project One was anchored by a number of organizations. See below. The community had no formal organizational structure. Decisions were made through a voluntary weekly meeting of members who made decisions based on a consensus of those present.Project One was initiated by architect Ralph Scott, a former student of Buckminster Fuller, and rapidly became an interdisciplinary learning environment. Central to the concept was Symbas Alternative High School, founded by Scott and located in a large, high-ceiling space on the first floor. Many of these resident non-profit organizations and small businesses were brought in to serve as resources for the students, who were also members of the larger community. Students found mentors who offered skills training and the opportunities to practice new skills. See also community of place.

The San Francisco South of Market Leather History Alley consists of four works of art that honor the history of gay and lesbian leather culture in South of Market, San Francisco. The art is embedded in Ringold Street, an alley between 8th and 9th Street. The installation opened in 2017. The alley is part of the Leather and LGBTQ Cultural District.

The James Lick Baths (also known as the People's Laundry Building and 165 Tenth Street) in the South of Market District of San Francisco, California. It is a San Francisco Designated Landmark. It combined aspects of public bathing and self-service laundry.

The Jackson Brewing Company, also known as the Jackson Brewery, is a former brewery complex at Folsom and 11th streets in the South of Market neighborhood of San Francisco, California. The company was founded in 1859 by Thomas E. Green and Jacob Lynn and later run by the Fredericks family. The buildings that stand today were put up in 1906–1907 and 1912–1913, after an earlier plant on the site, still under construction, was destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The brewery closed in 1920 at the start of Prohibition. The complex was named San Francisco Landmark No. 199 in 1991 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

Californios is a Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant in San Francisco, California, serving Mexican cuisine. Its head chef is Val M. Cantu, one of the restaurant's co-owners. Californios earned its first Michelin star in 2015 and then its second in 2017, becoming the first US restaurant serving Mexican cuisine to earn two Michelin stars. Its original Mission District location was closed in 2020. The restaurant was relocated to the South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood in early 2021.

Slim's was a nightclub and music venue in San Francisco, California, which was opened by Boz Scaggs in 1988. Scaggs and his partners took over a vacant restaurant which was called the Warehouse and threw a party there on December 31, 1987, to celebrate before closing it to remodel, and the new venue opened on September 16, 1988. The club closed permanently on March 18, 2020.

The Stud is a queer bar located in South of Market, San Francisco. It was started by associates George Matson and Alexis Muir (Alexis was a transgender woman then known as Richard Conroy) on May 27, 1966. According to George Matson it was a "bar for people, not just pretty bodies". Originally the Stud was located at 1535 Folsom Street; in 1987 it moved to its current location at Ninth and Harrison Streets. The Stud is known for its themed parties, drag and burlesque shows, and community events. It was also home of the famous Trannyshack, a weekly drag show that featured all different types of drag and drag stars from 1996 until 2008.

Oasis is a drag club currently located at 11th and Folsom in San Francisco's South of Market (SoMA) District. Opened in 2014, by Heklina, D’Arcy Drollinger, Geoff Benjamin and Jason Beebout, Oasis has become "a cultural hub for drag, cabaret and live theater."
