Oasis is a drag club currently located at 11th and Folsom in San Francisco's South of Market (SoMA) District. Opened in 2014, by Heklina, D’Arcy Drollinger, Geoff Benjamin and Jason Beebout, Oasis has become "a cultural hub for drag, cabaret and live theater."

Slim's was a nightclub and music venue in San Francisco, California, which was opened by Boz Scaggs in 1988. Scaggs and his partners took over a vacant restaurant which was called the Warehouse and threw a party there on December 31, 1987, to celebrate before closing it to remodel, and the new venue opened on September 16, 1988. The club closed permanently on March 18, 2020.

Californios is a Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant in San Francisco, California, serving Mexican cuisine. Its head chef is Val M. Cantu, one of the restaurant's co-owners. Californios earned its first Michelin star in 2015 and then its second in 2017, becoming the first US restaurant serving Mexican cuisine to earn two Michelin stars. Its original Mission District location was closed in 2020. The restaurant was relocated to the South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood in early 2021.

Bootie is the first club night in the United States dedicated solely to mashups and bootlegs, and is now the biggest all-mashup party in the world, with regular parties in several cities. The original party began at the Cherry Bar (now Codeword) in San Francisco in August 2003, and moved to DNA Lounge in March 2006, where it now occurs every Saturday, and is simulcast into the virtual venue The Level in Second Life. For over a year, it was the only club of its kind in America, and its creators, DJs Adrian & the Mysterious D (aka A Plus D), along with former resident DJ Party Ben, were instrumental in helping to popularize mashup culture on the West Coast. The club has showcased mashup DJs from around the world, including DJ Earworm, DJ Lobsterdust, DJs from Mars, ShyBoy, Go Home Productions, Evolution Control Committee, and dj BC, as well as featuring a live house band, Smash-Up Derby, known as "the world's first mashup rock band."Bootie SF has been regularly named "Best Dance Club" in the SF Weekly's "Best of SF". The Bay Guardian's annual "Best of the Bay" has awarded Bootie for "Best Theme Club Night/Best Dance Party and Best Event Producers" for several years. Best of the Bay Issue Hallmarks of the event include the Midnight Mashup Show, which often consists of aerial act performers or drag queens, as well as a regular 11 PM show, which rotates throughout the month between live mashup rock band Smash-Up Derby, burlesque show Hubba Hubba Revue, and drag revue The Monster Show. After the shows, the crowd is thrown a limited number of Bootie CDs, which many club patrons collect. The night has been written about in national magazines such as Spin, Complex, and Club Systems International.In July 2005, A Plus D launched a sister club in Los Angeles called Bootie LA, which began at The Echo in Echo Park and is now held at the adjacent Echoplex. In February 2007, the promoters launched Bootie NYC in New York City. That same month, they partnered with French DJ ComaR to help launch Bootie Paris, which ran for nearly three years at La Mechanique Ondulatoire. Bootie Munich, with resident DJs BootOX and Schmolli, was launched in October 2007. Bootie Boston, with dj BC and Lenlow, was launched in March 2008. Bootie Berlin launched in June 2009 with residents DJ Morgoth, Mashup-Germany, and Dr. Waumiau. Bootie Rio in Brazil was launched in May 2010. Bootie ATL, in Atlanta with dj BC, was launched in August 2011.A Plus D have also done one-off Bootie parties in many other places around the globe, including Hong Kong, Beijing, Singapore, London, Vienna, Brazil, Brisbane, Chicago, Portland, Seattle, Mexico City, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Hamburg, Lithuania, Ireland, and Salt Lake City. While the number of CDs given away at each party is limited, the "Bootie Top 10," list of for each month is available on their website and can be downloaded for free as MP3 files. The selection is curated by A Plus D, who also produce the annual "Best of Bootie" collection, a much-anticipated annual compilation for mashup fans and those attending the New Year's Eve party. , also available as free downloads, both as a continuous mix and individual tracks.

DNA Lounge is a late-night, all ages nightclub and restaurant/cafe in the SoMa district of San Francisco, owned by Jamie Zawinski, a former Netscape programmer and open-source software hacker. The club features DJ dancing, live music, burlesque performances, and occasionally conferences, private parties, and film premieres. It is located at 375 Eleventh Street, near Harrison Street. DNA Lounge has seven full bars, two stages, four dance floors, and a full service pizza restaurant and cafe. Since 2001 the club has been providing continuous audio and video webcasts of all events free of charge.

Death Guild is the oldest continually operating gothic/industrial dance club in the United States, and second in the world (preceded only by Slimelight in London). Death Guild opened on March 15, 1993, and is currently held every Monday at DNA Lounge in San Francisco. Death Guild has always been an 18-and-over dance club, a rarity in San Francisco where most dance clubs are 21+. Death Guild has also been the promoter of most of the gothic and industrial live shows in San Francisco since the mid-1990s. The Death Guild crew have also been responsible for a theme camp at Burning Man since the mid-1990s, which is well known for the Death Guild Thunderdome.

Folsom Street Fair (FSF) is an annual BDSM and leather subculture street fair, held in September, that caps San Francisco's "Leather Pride Week". The Folsom Street Fair, sometimes simply referred to as "Folsom", takes place on Folsom Street between 8th and 13th Streets, in San Francisco's South of Market district. The event started in 1984 and is California's third-largest single-day, outdoor spectator event and the world's largest leather event and showcase for BDSM products and culture. It has grown as a non-profit charity, and local and national non-profits benefit with all donations at the gates going to charity groups as well as numerous fundraising schemes within the festival including games, beverage booths and even spanking for donations to capitalize on the adult-themed exhibitionism.

St. Joseph's Church and Complex is a historic church at 1401–1415 Howard Street in San Francisco, California, United States. It was built in 1914 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

San Francisco Eagle (also SF Eagle, or simply The Eagle; formerly Eagle Tavern) is a gay bar in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood, in the U.S. state of California. The bar caters to the bear community and the leather subculture. Lex Montiel is one of the bar's owners, as of 2018.The San Francisco South of Market Leather History Alley consists of four works of art along Ringold Alley honoring the leather subculture; it opened in 2017. One of the works of art is metal bootprints along the curb which honor 28 people (including Terry Thompson, who managed the bar) who were an important part of the leather communities of San Francisco.

Saint Joseph's Arts Society, run by the Saint Joseph's Arts Foundation, is an arts nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and arts community located at 1401 Howard Street in the South of Market neighborhood of San Francisco, California.

The Leather and LGBTQ Cultural District is a cultural district in San Francisco's South of Market (SOMA) neighborhood commemorating the history and culture of the leather subculture active in the area for approximately half a century. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors established the district with legislation signed into law by the mayor on May 9, 2018. A ribbon cutting was held on June 12 that year outside the Stud on 9th St. for that.The area is bounded approximately by Howard St. on the northwest, 7th St. on the northeast, I-80 on the east and US 101 on the south. There is also an exclave between 5th and 6th streets, Harrison and Bryant. It includes the San Francisco South of Market Leather History Alley, which opened in 2017.The aim of the district is to "honor and commemorate the people, places and institutions that gave South of Market its distinctive culture and appeal, and would also help protect the remaining businesses and spaces, and sustain the people who live, work and recreate there."

An important part of the counterculture of the 1970s, Project One- sometimes described as a technological commune - was an intentional community in San Francisco, California, U.S. Located at 1380 Howard St. in an 84,000 sq.ft warehouse, formerly an abandoned candy factory, the community functioned from 1970 to 1980 and was the first "warehouse community" in San Francisco. Occupied by a shifting mix of students, craftspeople, artisans, sculptors, filmmakers, and technologists, Project One was anchored by a number of organizations. See below. The community had no formal organizational structure. Decisions were made through a voluntary weekly meeting of members who made decisions based on a consensus of those present.Project One was initiated by architect Ralph Scott, a former student of Buckminster Fuller, and rapidly became an interdisciplinary learning environment. Central to the concept was Symbas Alternative High School, founded by Scott and located in a large, high-ceiling space on the first floor. Many of these resident non-profit organizations and small businesses were brought in to serve as resources for the students, who were also members of the larger community. Students found mentors who offered skills training and the opportunities to practice new skills. See also community of place.
