The Port of Emden is the seaport of the German city of Emden at the mouth of the Ems to the North Sea. It is the westernmost seaport on the coast of Germany; in 2011, it reached an annual turnover of about 6.29 million tons. Major transhipment products include motor vehicles, forest products and, increasingly, wind turbines. In motor vehicles, the Emden port is the third largest in Europe after Zeebrugge and Bremerhaven (2017: 1.92 million vehicles, 2015: 1.406.807 vehicles). The sea freight turnover in 2017 was 5.08 million tons) (2016: 4.33 million tons, 2015: 4.29 million tons). These figures included components for the wind energy sector. The port is connected to the railway network with the Emden Außenhafen station via Emden main station. Emden Hauptbahnhof is the main station in Emden in the German state of Lower Saxony. It is the terminus of the Emsland Railway, connecting Emden with Münster and the Ruhr and the starting point of the East Frisian coastal railway from Emden to Norden and Norddeich, both of which are electrified. It is also connected to the city’s second busiest station of Emden Außenhafen (outer harbour) by a line that has been electrified since 2006.

Larrelt is a former village in Lower Saxony, Germany. The centuries-old East Frisian village originally belonged to the former Landkreis Norden, but was added to the city of Emden as a district (Stadtteil) immediately after the Second World War. It currently lies directly to the north of the Emden industrial estate. The oldest mention of Larrelt, as Hlarfliata, dates from the 10th century. The former village has a church which dates from the 15th century.

Borssum or Borßum is a village in Lower Saxony, Germany. Together with the village of Hilmarsum it forms a district (Stadtteil) of Emden. The East Frisian village on the Eems is located southeast of the city. The history of Borssum dates back to the seventh century. It originated from two centres, Groß-Borssum and Klein-Borssum, both of which had a borg. Today, the Westerburg School and the Osterburg School are located on the location of both buildings.The historic village with a church from the thirteenth century, has grown into one of the larger districts of Emden, especially after the Second World War.

Wolthusen is a former village in Lower Saxony, Germany and borough (Stadtteil) of Emden. It was incorporated into the city in 1928. The village character can still be found around the old village church from 1784. The church, located on a yard, was built on the location where a predecessor had already been built in the fifteenth century. The name of the village refers to its location in low, swampy meadows (wold), composed of -husen, i.e. 'houses'.

Logumer Vorwerk is a village in Lower Saxony, Germany. Located to the west of the city, it is administratively a district (Stadtteil) of Emden. The village was incorporated as such on 1 July 1972, as were the villages of Wybelsum and Twixlum.The village is named after the former village of Logum that drowned in the Dollart.

The Dollart (German name) or Dollard (Dutch name) is a bay in the Wadden Sea between the northern Netherlands and Germany, on the west side of the estuary of the Ems river. Most of it dries at low tide. Many water birds feed there.

Twixlum is a village in Lower Saxony, Germany. Located to the northwest of the city, it is administratively a district (Stadtteil) of Emden. The village was incorporated as such on 1 July 1972, as were the villages of Logumer Vorwerk and Wybelsum.Twixlum has retained its village character. In the center of the village is the village church. The current church was built around 1500. The tower, which is lower than the church, is a remnant of an older church that was probably built in the fourteenth century.

The Ems (German: Ems; Dutch: Eems) is a river in northwestern Germany. It runs through the states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony, and discharges into the Dollart Bay which is part of the Wadden Sea. Its total length is 362.4 kilometres (225.2 mi). The state border between the Lower Saxon area of East Friesland (Germany) and the province of Groningen (Netherlands), whose exact course was the subject of a border dispute between Germany and the Netherlands (settled in 2014), runs through the Ems estuary.
