Lorain County Community College

Ohio Business College is a private for-profit junior college with multiple locations in Ohio. It is owned by Tri-State Educational Systems, Inc. with corporate headquarters located in Middletown, Ohio. Currently, Ohio Business College operates three campuses in Ohio with career education focused around information technology, business administration, allied health, and CDL training.

Elyria Catholic High School (ECHS) is a private Catholic high school located in Elyria, Ohio, United States. It is affiliated with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland and is the only Catholic high school in Lorain County. Elyria Catholic was built in 1949 and a physical education complex and economics lab was completed in 2007. The school colors are forest green, white, and black and athletic teams are known as the Panthers. The school is a member of the Great Lakes Conference.

Sheffield is a village in Lorain County, Ohio, United States, along the Black River. The population was 4,135 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Cleveland metropolitan area.

Midway Mall is a 940,174 sq ft (87,345 m2) square foot regional shopping mall in Elyria, Ohio. Lorain County's only enclosed regional mall, it sits on Ohio State Route 57, about 1/8 mile from Interstate 80 (the Ohio Turnpike) and Interstate 90. Anchored by Dunham's Sports , it is a dead mall with only around 20 stores and services.

Lake Ridge Academy (LRA) is an independent, nonsectarian day school in North Ridgeville, Ohio, United States. The school was founded in 1963 and offers co-educational classes from kindergarten through grade 12. Lake Ridge Academy is the only independent college preparatory academy on the West Side of Cleveland. The school facilities include 93 acres of open fields, wooded areas, a pond, a creek, tennis courts, track and field track, playing fields. Lake Ridge Academy is portioned into three divisions: Lower School (K–5), Middle School (6–8), and Upper School (9–12).

Avon High School is a public high school for grades 9–12 located in Avon, Ohio, United States. Athletic teams are known as the Eagles and play in the Southwestern Conference as of the 2018–2019 school year. The current Avon High School opened in 1998, located on 37 acres of land on Detroit Road. The school is two stories tall and was built for 800 students with room to expand it for 1,600 students.

Mercy Health Stadium is a baseball park in Avon, Ohio, United States. It is the home of the Lake Erie Crushers, a Frontier League team that began play in 2009. The ballpark has a capacity of 5,000 people and opened on June 2, 2009, with the Crushers defeating the Windy City Thunderbolts, 5-2. The ballpark was known as All Pro Freight Stadium until January 2017; Sprenger Stadium until December 2019; and Crushers Stadium in 2020. The team announced in November 2020 that beginning January 1, 2021, the facility will be known as Mercy Health Stadium after a deal was signed with Mercy Health, a Cincinnati-based healthcare provider that operates facilities around the state of Ohio, including two hospitals in the nearby communities of Lorain and Oberlin.

Elyria ( ə-LEER-ee-ə) is a city in and the county seat of Lorain County, Ohio, United States, located at the forks of the Black River in Northeast Ohio 23 miles (37 km) southwest of Cleveland. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 52,656. It is a principal city in the Cleveland metropolitan area. The city is home to Lorain County Community College.

Elyria station is an Amtrak station in Elyria, Ohio. Located at 410 East River Road, the building is a small bus stop-type shelter. Elyria is served by the Capitol Limited and Lake Shore Limited routes, both of which pass through Elyria in the middle of the night. Starting in 1998 the Chicago-Philadelphia Pennsylvanian stopped in Elyria until 2003 when the train reverted the original Pittsburgh-New York route. The former New York Central Station is in downtown Elyria. It was built in 1925 as a replacement for a former Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway depot, and has been purchased by the Lorain County government for use as a transportation center. The building had been used for many years as a beauty school since it was sold by Conrail. The county hopes to use the building again for Amtrak trains. On August 1, 2013 it was announced that Amtrak has offered to pay 2.9 million dollars towards the project in hopes of relocating its passenger service there.On October 25, 2013, the station building caught fire, causing an estimated $25,000 in damage and closing the station building indefinitely, with passenger access limited to the platform.

Three full-service, 24/7 emergency departments are available in Elyria, Amherst and Avon – each offering UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital pediatric emergency services. The Family Birth Center at UH Elyria offers mothers-to-be private rooms and bathrooms – some with hydrotherapy – as well as a Level II Nursery staffed with specially trained physicians and nurses for newborns in need of advanced care.

The Wilbur Cahoon House is one of the oldest homes in Lorain County, Ohio, United States. The house is 80 feet (24 m) long with 12 rooms, situated overlooking French Creek. Wilbur Cahoon arrived in Avon in 1814 from Herkimer County, New York with his wife, Priscilla and family; he was Avon's first settler and an early industrialist. Cahoon purchased 800 acres (320 ha) through a trade of 100 acres (40 ha) in New York. His new land was covered by a forest, and he and his family constructed a log cabin as a temporary shelter. In the following year, he began to build a sawmill nearby along French Creek, and in 1818 established a gristmill. The log cabin was no longer the Cahoon family home after 1826, when the present house was erected. Later in life, Cahoon entered into local public service: he served as Justice of the Peace for Avon, Sheffield and Dover Townships, as well as holding offices such as overseer of the poor, elections judge, and constable.Cahoon's house is a Greek Revival building with prominent local vernacular influences. Although the style is typical of period houses in the region, its floor plan is unusually disorderly, in contrast to the symmetry of typical Greek Revival structures, and the house is unusually short for its footprint. Set on a stone foundation, the house is a two-story wooden structure with a protruding gabled section on the left, as seen from the road. Shuttered windows fill much of the wall space on the facade.In 1978, the Cahoon House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, qualifying because of its connection to Cahoon. As the home of the first pioneer in the area and as one of the area's earliest buildings in any architectural style, it occupies a significant place in local history.

Avon Isle Park Pavilion is a 50 feet (15 m) by 70 feet (21 m) sandstone dance pavilion located on Detroit Road, Avon, Ohio. The dance pavilion is housed in a building featuring several French Colonial revival architecture pieces, including a low hip roof and columned porches. Overall, the building is 48 feet (15 m) by 68 feet (21 m) and features a stage and kitchenette. From the 1920s until the 1970s, the venue hosted a variety of civic and social events. It was also available for private events. During the early years, the larger cities nearby; Lorain and Elyria prohibited dancing on Sunday. This allowed Avon Isle to host big-name entertainers like Guy Lombardo. Currently, the building has been renovated and is available for rent by businesses as well as individuals who wish to use the building as a venue for their events at a fee for Avon residents of $150 for the first two hours and an additional $35 for each additional hour and a fee of $200 with a fee of $50 for each additional hour for non-Avon residents.Avon Isle was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.
