Heukelum

Merckenburg Castle, also known as Castle Heukelum, is a brick castle in the town of Heukelum in the municipality of West Betuwe in The Netherlands. It dates back to the 13th century. The castle has been destroyed and rebuilt twice. The first time was in the fourteenth century, the second time in the disaster year 1672, when the French blew up the building during the Franco-Dutch War. The castle was restored around 1700, attached to the keep that had not been destroyed by the explosions. The castle is a square building, approximately 1 km east of Heukelum, located on the Lingedijk in the middle of a wide canal . Since the municipal reorganization in 1986, the castle has belonged to the province of Gelderland, before that to South Holland.

The Hofje van Mevrouw van Aerden is a museum and former hofje in Leerdam, Netherlands, on the Kerkstraat (numbers 57 and 89). It was built during the years 1770-1772 on the former location of the "Kasteel van Leerdam", a castle that was destroyed by the Spanish in 1574. The hofje was founded by Maria Ponderus, the daughter of a surgeon who at 20 married the 50-year-old widower Pieter van Aerden, notary in The Hague. She lived to 92, surviving her husband and three children, who also had no issue. She decided to leave her fortune to a hofje for women of the Protestant faith. Though she had intended her hofje for the poor of The Hague, by the time she died the most of her poor relations were living in Leerdam. Through connections with the House of Orange, the site of the old castle of Leerdam was chosen to build the hofje.

The Leerdam railway station is located in the western Netherlands, on the MerwedeLingelijn line between Dordrecht and Geldermalsen. The railway station was opened on 1 December 1883. Train services are operated by Qbuzz.

Kedichem is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is located about 7 km northeast of the city of Gorinchem, in the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden. The village was first mentioned between 1395 and 1396 as Kedinghen, and means "settlement of the people of Kedo (person)". In 1840, it was home 381 people. The Protestant Church was built in 1867, and was the replacement of a 15th century church.Kedichem was a separate municipality in the province of South Holland until 1986, when it merged with Leerdam. In the same year Kedichem became nationally known in The Netherlands when activists burned down a hotel there to prevent a joined meeting of the extreme right Centre Party and Centre Democrats parties, causing a number of injuries.

Asperen is a small city in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of West Betuwe, and lies about 10 km (6 miles) east of Gorinchem on the river Linge. It received city rights in 1313.

Leerdam (Dutch: [leːrˈdɑm] ) is a city and former municipality in the western Netherlands, in the province of Utrecht. The municipality was merged with the municipalities of Vianen and Zederik on 1 January 2019. The name of the new municipality is Vijfheerenlanden which is a part of the province Utrecht. The former municipality Leerdam was a part of the province South Holland. The south border of the town is formed by the river Linge. The name originates from a dam in the river Lede which was a branch from the river Linge towards Meerkerk. Leerdam is situated almost exactly in the middle of the three highways A2, A15, and A27.

Geer is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden, and lies about 9 km northeast of Gorinchem. The hamlet was first mentioned in 1874 as Geer (De), and means "tapering piece of land". The postal authorities have placed it under Nieuwland. In 1840, it was home to 138 people.

Lingewaal (Dutch pronunciation: [ˌlɪŋəˈʋaːl] ) is a former municipality in the province of Gelderland in the Netherlands. On 1 January 2019, the municipality merged with Geldermalsen and Neerijnen to form the new municipality of West Betuwe.

Achterdijk is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden, and lies about 7 km northeast of Gorinchem. The name of the hamlet means "Back Dike"; it refers to the dike between Leerdam and Arkel. The hamlet was first mentioned in 1869. Achterdijk has no place name signs, and the postal authorities have placed it under Nieuwland. In 1840, Achterdijk was home to 42 people.

Leerbroek is a village in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden, and lies about 9 km (6 mi) northeast of Gorinchem. Leerbroek was a separate municipality between 1817, when it was separated from Meerkerk, and 1986, when it merged with Zederik in the province of South Holland. When Zederik merged into the new municipality Vijfheerenlanden in 2019, it became a part of the province of Utrecht.

Middelkoop is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Vijfheerenlanden, and lies about 11 km south of IJsselstein. The hamlet was first mentioned in 1333 as Middelcoep, and means "concession in the middle". Middelkoop has no place name signs, and the postal authorities have placed it under Leerbroek. In 1840, it was home to 298 people.

Vuren is a village in the Dutch province of Gelderland. It is a part of the municipality of West Betuwe, and is located about 5 km east of Gorinchem. Vuren was a separate municipality until 1986, when it merged with Asperen, Herwijnen, and Heukelum including Spijk. The new municipality was originally called "Vuren", but the name changed to "Lingewaal" in 1987. Before 1816, the municipality of Vuren was named "Dalem".In 2001, the village of Vuren had 1575 inhabitants. The built-up area of the village was 0.47 km², and contained 608 residences. The statistical area "Vuren", which also can include the peripheral parts of the village, as well as the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 2090.The fort at Vuren formed as part of the defensive Hollandic Water Line.
