Pico/Aliso station is an at-grade light rail station on the L Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. It is located in the median of East 1st Street between South Anderson Street and South Utah Street in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. This station opened on November 15, 2009, as part of the Gold Line Eastside Extension. During construction of the Regional Connector project west of this station, Pico/Aliso is currently serving as the northbound terminus of the southern portion of the L Line. At this station, passengers can transfer between trains and a bus bridge that serves the Little Tokyo/Arts District station area and Union Station's Patsaouras Transit Plaza, where passengers can board trains to continue on the northern portion of the L Line. This station and all the other Eastside Extension stations will be part of the E Line upon completion of the Regional Connector project in 2022.

Felicitas and Gonzalo Mendez High School is a public high school in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles, California, United States. It is also known as Felicitas and Gonzalo Mendez Learning Center.

Aliso Village was a housing project in Los Angeles, California. It was built in 1942 and demolished 1999. The 29-acre (120,000 m2) parcel was replaced by Pueblo del Sol.The complex was owned and managed by the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles.

Salt Lake Station was a railway station in Los Angeles, California. It was located on the east side of the Los Angeles River at 1st Street. It was built by the Los Angeles Terminal Railway and began service in 1891, becoming a part of the Los Angeles and Salt Lake Railroad in 1901 and the Union Pacific Railroad system in 1921. Local streetcar service was provided by the Los Angeles Railway. The building was heavily damaged in a fire in 1924, prompting the railroad to move passenger operations to Southern Pacific's Central Station.

Pueblo del Sol is a housing project in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, California. It is operated by the McCormack Baron Salazar management company. Administered by the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles, Pueblo del Sol occupies the Los Angeles River-side site of the former Aliso Village housing project. Under the HOPE VI grant program introduced by the Clinton administration, the Garden City-influenced Aliso Village was demolished and replaced by a New Urbanist development, Pueblo del Sol. Whereas Aliso Village consisted mostly of apartment buildings, Pueblo del Sol's housing stock is largely semi-detached single family apartments. Most are subsidized to varying degrees. The project reduced the number of units from 685 to 377, a 45% reduction that displaced the majority of the former residents. The project has been criticized for reducing the number of units, at a time when Los Angeles suffers a severe shortage of affordable housing. The families that were displaced from the public housing receive priority in the rental or purchase of the new units. (Displaced households can use Section 8 vouchers to find temporary—or permanent—housing elsewhere.) And the residents and managers of the replacement housing are empowered to enforce a zero-tolerance policy of responsible behavior within the premises.Pueblo del Sol is served by the Pico/Aliso L Line station.

Dolores Mission, Los Angeles is a Catholic parish in the largely Hispanic area of Boyle Heights in East Los Angeles. The parish has collaborated in various grassroots initiatives to combat adverse social conditions in the area, including Homeboy Industries, Proyecto Pastoral at Dolores Mission, CHIRLA, and the East Los Angeles Housing Coalition.

La Grande Station was the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway's (Santa Fe) main passenger terminal in Los Angeles, California from 1893 until the opening of Union Station in 1939. The station was located at 2nd Street and Santa Fe Avenue on the west bank of the Los Angeles River, just south of the First Street viaduct built in 1929.

Santa Fe Freight Depot is a quarter-mile-long building in the industrial area to the east of Downtown Los Angeles, now known as the Arts District. The Southern California Institute of Architecture converted the structure into its campus in 2000. The building's use as a school has helped revitalize a neighborhood previously considered "a gritty corner of downtown".

The historic 1889 Boyle Hotel is across the street from the Mariachi Plaza at the corner of Boyle Avenue, First Street and Pleasant Avenue in the East Los Angeles community of Boyle Heights. The building was formerly a hotel and commercial shops line the first floor of this Queen Anne Style building. In 2007 the building was declared a Los Angeles Cultural Monument.The building was rehabilitated by East LA Community Corporation as affordable housing. Ernesto Espinoza is the Director of Real Estate Development for East LA Community Corporation who helped line up the $25 million in public and private subsidies to develop 51 units of affordable housing at the Boyle Hotel – Cummings Block and adjacent parcels. ELACC added a new 20-unit apartment building adjacent to the Boyle Hotel on the Cummings Block.

Libros Schmibros is a lending library located in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, a predominantly Latinx neighborhood. The diversity among the residents means there is great "language diversity within Boyle Heights" as there are many bilingual individuals. Local libraries in the Boyle Heights area started closing on Mondays, and not one of the public libraries offered "bilingual story hours for children". The literary desert forming in Boyle Heights and the lack of access to bilingual media were the founders' of Libros Schmibros, David Kipen and Colleen Jaurretche, primary motivations in creating the lending library.

Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) is a private university focused on architecture and located in Los Angeles, California. Founded in 1972, SCI-Arc was initially regarded as—both institutionally and artistically—more avant-garde than traditional architecture schools based in the United States. It consists of approximately 500 students and 80 faculty members, some of whom are practicing architects. It is based in the quarter-mile long (0.40 km) former Santa Fe Freight Depot in the Arts District in downtown Los Angeles, and offers community events such as outreach programs, free exhibitions, and public lectures. According to collegefactual SCI-Arc is ranked #260 among 1,715 architecture schools all over the U.S.A. and ranked at #27 out of the 116 architecture colleges in California. Design Intelligence in 2019-2020 has ranked SCI-Arc's Undergraduate program as 10th in the USA (based on just Graduate Employability). Also as niche evaluated the acceptance rate for this school is 100% which means you only need to meet some basic requirements in order to be admitted, and all the admissions are accepted.

Mariachi Plaza station is an underground light rail station on the L Line of the Los Angeles Metro Rail system. It is located under 1st Street at its at the intersection of Boyle Avenue, with the main exit located at Mariachi Plaza, after which the station is named. The plaza is the historic gateway to the Boyle Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles. This station opened in 2009 as part of the Gold Line Eastside Extension and was one of two underground stations on the Eastside Extension (the other being Mariachi Plaza). This station and all the other Eastside Extension stations will be part of the E Line upon completion of the Regional Connector project in 2022. Until 1963, the Los Angeles Railway's P Line yellow streetcars operated on the surface of 1st Street, including a stop near this station.
