Driebruggen

Lange Ruige Weide is a former municipality in the Dutch province of South Holland. It was located west of the city of Oudewater, and covered the hamlets of Langeweide and Ruigeweide. Lange Ruige Weide was a separate municipality from 1818 to 1964, when it became part of Driebruggen.

Waarder is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the former municipality of Reeuwijk, and lies about 5 km southwest of Woerden. The village was first mentioned in 1108 as Werdere and means "(river) island". Waarder developed as a road on a silted river arm in the 12th century. The Dutch Reformed church is a single aisled cruciform church from the 16th century.Waarder was a separate municipality until 1964, when it became part of Driebruggen, which became part of Reeuwijk in 1989. Hekendorp was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1964, when it merged with Driebruggen. During this period, the area was part of the province South Holland. In 1857, the municipality of Oukoop was added to Hekendorp, even though the two former municipalities did not border each other.The Goejanverwellesluis where the patriots stopped Wilhelmina van Pruisen is located in Hekendorp.

The Goejanverwellesluis is a lock in Hekendorp, Netherlands. The 'Goejannen' - the men from the surrounding polders who went to sea - said their last farewells by this channel. According to the tradition, Wilhelmina of Prussia, wife of stadholder William V was captured here on 28 June 1787 by the Patriots from Gouda. In reality, her entourage were arrested at Bonrepas on the river Vlist, on the way to Schoonhoven near Haastrecht. Wilhelmina was at a farm overhanging the Goejanverwellesluis, where Cornelis Johan de Lange, commander of the free corps of Gouda, had been billeted. Informed of her plans by the gentleman Martinus van Toulon, former bailiff of Gouda, the Commission of Defense stopped her from driving on to Gouda that night. The princess left the very same evening after 10pm in the direction of Schoonhoven and turned back to her spouse stadholder William V at Nijmegen. This event formed the main reason for the Prussians' raid into Holland, with Frederick William II of Prussia coming to his sister Wilhelmina's aid and so making possible William's return to the Hague. This raid led to an exodus of the Patriots from the United Republic of the Seven Netherlands in 1787. A foot ferry at Goejanverwellesluis was replaced by the Wilhelmina van Pruisen Bridge in 1992.

Ruigeweide is a hamlet in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is a part of the municipality of Oudewater, and lies about 2 km northwest of the city of Oudewater. It was first mentioned in 1371 as "in de ruwer weyde, ende op ter langher weyde", and means meadow with rough vegetation. Also to distinguish it from Langeweide. The postal authorities have placed it under Oudewater. The hamlet has no place name signs. In 1840, Ruigeweide was home to 84 people.

Nieuwerbrug (also Nieuwerbrug aan de Rijn) is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the former municipality of Bodegraven, and lies about five kilometres west of Woerden. Bodegraven has become part of the municipality of Bodegraven-Reeuwijk in 2011. Nieuwerbrug aan de Rijn is the spelling since 2009 to distinguish from Nieuwebrug in Friesland.Nieuwerbrug is a dike village which developed along the bridge over the Oude Rijn which was built in 1510. The bridge became a toll bridge from 1651 to the present. A little tower was built next to the bridge between 1913 and 1914.

The Wierickerschans Fort is a part of the Old Dutch Waterline or "Oude Hollandse Waterlinie". This was a defence system that allowed large parts of the country (Holland) to be flooded (inundated). Thus protecting the main towns and city in the West against invading forces from the East. It was in use right up to the 19th century. The Fort was built on the site where in 1672 Stadtholder Willem III (William of Orange, who later became King of England) had his headquarters during the war against the French. The Fort is centrally located within the Old Dutch Waterline that stretched from Muiden down to the Biesbosch.
