St. Vedast Church, Vlamertinge

Vlamertinge is a village in the Belgian province of West Flanders and a borough of the city of Ypres. The village center of Vlamertinge lies just outside the city center of Ypres, along the main road N38 to the nearby town of Poperinge. In addition to the city center of Ypres itself, Vlamertinge is the largest borough of Ypres. In the west of Vlamertinge, along the road to Poperinge, is the hamlet of Brandhoek.

The N8 road in Belgium is a road connecting Brussels and Koksijde, passing Ninove, Oudenaarde, Kortrijk, Ypres and Veurne.The N8 is the old road from Brussels to the coast. Most sections have been replaced by motorways, and only serve a regional purpose, except for the A19 which was supposed to go from Kortrijk to the coast, but which ends at Ypres. In 2012, the extension was permanently cancelled.

Fliegerhorst Vlamertinge is a former military air base, located 8.4 km east-southeast of Poperinge in West Flanders, Belgium. It was closed in 1945 and is now in agricultural use.

Brandhoek is a small hamlet in Belgium situated between Ypres, Vlamertinge and Poperinge just off the N308/N38.Brandhoek was used as a Field Ambulance and Casualty Clearing Station during World War I and contains three Commonwealth War Graves Commission cemeteries: Brandhoek Military with 601 burials Brandhoek New Military with 514 burials, including Captain Noel Chavasse, Double VC (a memorial plaque is situated just outside Brandhoek Church with the British flag flying) and also Private C.A. Rudd who was his batman. Brandhoek New Military No 3 with 849 Burials. A quarter of the graves are Royal Artillery due to the many gun positions in the vicinity.

Red Farm Military Cemetery is a British military cemetery with fallen from the First World War, located in the Belgian village of Vlamertinge (Ypres). The cemetery is located about 2.9 km west of the village center, in the hamlet of Brandhoek. It was designed by Arthur Hutton and is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. With an area of only 172 m2, it is one of the smallest British cemeteries. The site is enclosed by a brick wall and is accessible via a grass path of 25 m. The Cross of Sacrifice is close to the entrance on the southern side. 49 dead are commemorated.

Grootebeek British Cemetery is a Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) burial ground for the dead of the Western Front of the First and Second World War. It is located near Reningelst in the municipality of Poperinge in western Belgium. The cemetery is surrounded by farmland and can only be reached via a 100-metre grassed path which is not suitable for vehicles.

Bard Cottage Cemetery is a World War I, Commonwealth War Graves Commission burial ground near Ypres, Belgium. It is home to 1607 identified casualties. The cemetery is half a kilometre north of Essex Farm Cemetery.

Boezinge (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈbuzɪŋə]; West Flemish: Boezienge) is a village in the municipality of Ypres in the Belgian province of West Flanders. Boezinge can be reached via the N369 road in the direction of Diksmuide. It was an independent municipality until 1977.

Ieper railway station is located in Ypres (Dutch: Ieper) in West Flanders, Belgium. The station was opened in 1854 during the reign of Leopold I of Belgium. It is located on the line from Kortrijk to Poperinge run by NMBS, Belgian railway line 69.

De Klijte (French, La Clytte, West Flemish: De Klyte, locally known as De Kliete) is a village in the municipality of Heuvelland in West Flanders, Belgium. Before the 1977 Belgian municipal reforms, De Klijte was part of the municipality Reningelst. Reningelst proper joined Poperinge, but De Klijte joined the new municipality Heuvelland. The village is located near the hill Scherpenberg.

The siege of Ypres in the Spanish Netherlands took place between March 18 and March 25, 1678, as part of the Franco-Dutch War, and ended with the conquest of the city by the French.
