Two-Storeyed Caravanserai

Church of the Holy Virgin or Holy Mother of God Church (Armenian: Սուրբ Աստվածածին եկեղեցի, Russian: Церковь Святой Богоматери, церковь Аствацацин, Azerbaijani: Surp Astvatsatsin Erməni Kilsəsi) was an Armenian Apostolic church in the Old City (İçərişəhər) of Baku, Azerbaijan, built in the 18th century and demolished in 1992. It was on the southern side of the Maiden Tower at the turn of Neftchilar (Neftyanikov) Avenue between the caravanserai (today Mugam Club Baku, until 1996 Music Museum), Barbara Street (now Hagigat Rzayeva Street, Həqiqət Rzayeva küçəsi) and Great Minaret Street (now Asaf Zeynally Street, Asəf Zeynallı küçəsi). Since there were not many Armenians in the Old City compared to the rest of Baku, the church did not have a large parish. Therefore and because it has been erased from public memory in Baku, little information has remained about it, and some statements about it are contradictory. According to Leonid Bretanitsky, the church was built near an Armenian caravansary beneath the Maiden Tower. Benjamin Arustamyan states that perhaps already Hamdallah Mustawfi Qazwini (ca. 1281–1344) mentioned an Armenian church and that the Armenian church of Holy Mother of God (Surp Astvatsatsin) was built in 1799 (i.e. under Persian rule of the Qajars) at the foot of the Maiden Tower inside Baku fortress, and demolished in the 1930s. However, the church stood until the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as can also be seen on several photographs. It was the Armenian Saint Thaddeus and Bartholomew Cathedral in Baku that was really destroyed under Joseph Stalin.At the end of the 19th century, the Armenian priest Markar Barkhudaryants noted that the Armenians of Baku had two stone churches: a large one named after Saint Gregory the Illuminator and a smaller one named Surb Astvatsatsin (Holy Mother of God). He characterized Surb Astvatsatsin as very old, as evidenced by the internal and external forms of architectural construction.Thomas de Waal mentions that according to the diplomat who worked in Baku in 1992, at the height of the Karabakh conflict, the church was destroyed, and now instead there is an empty space at its former site near the Maiden Tower.

Baba Kuhi Bakuvi mosque (azerb. Baba Kuhi Bakuvi məscidi) is one of the oldest mosques in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, belonging to the 9th–10th centuries. It is located in the historical part of Icherisheher, north of Maiden Tower. Presumably it is belonged to the Persian scholar and theologian Baba Kuhi Bakuvi.

The Ashura Mosque is a mosque in Baku, Azerbaijan. It was founded in 1169 by the master Najaf Ashur son of Ibrahim. It is located in the Asaf Zeynalli Street. The mosque is frequently called the ‘Lezgin Mosque’. The second name of the mosque is connected with the oil boom of the 19th century. As a result of this event a large inflow of labour was observed in Baku, including from Dagestan. This mosque was used by Lezgin workers during religious ceremonies.The shape of the Ashura Mosque is parallelepiped. There are two small windows on the southern face of the building. The entrance of the mosque is small and arch-shaped which leads to the single chamber prayer room. In the year of 1970, the mosque underwent restoration works and after reconstruction archaeological excavations discovered two semicircular arches belongs to the Sassanids period in Azerbaijan. These findings are in the southern part of the mosque building.

Murad’s Gate is a large portal located in the eastern wall of the Shirvanshahs’ Palace complex central courtyard. It is the only building of the 16th century on the territory of the complex.

The Maiden Tower (Azerbaijani: Qız qalası; Persian: قلعه دختر) is a 12th-century monument in the Old City, Baku, Azerbaijan. Along with the Shirvanshahs' Palace, dated to the 15th century, it forms a group of historic monuments listed in 2001 under the UNESCO World Heritage List of Historical Monuments as cultural property, Category III. It is one of Azerbaijan's most distinctive national emblems, and is thus featured on Azerbaijani currency notes and official letterheads.The Maiden Tower houses a museum, which presents the story of the historic evolution of Baku city. It also has a gift shop. The view from the roof takes in the alleys and minarets of the Old City, the Baku Boulevard, the house of Isa bek Hajinski and a wide vista of the Baku Bay. The Tower is covered by cloud of mysteries and legends which are rooted to the history and culture of Azerbaijan. Indeed, some epics became a subject for scenario for ballets and theatre's plays. The Maiden Tower (ballet) is a world-class Azerbaijani ballet created by Afrasiyab Badalbeyli in 1940 and ballet's remake was performed in 1999. Consequent to the receding of the sea shoreline of the Caspian Sea, a strip of land emerged. This land was developed between the 9th and 15th centuries, when the walls of the old city, the palace including the huge bastion of the Maiden Tower were built.

Bazar square (Azerbaijani: Bazar meydanı) or Khanqah complex (Azerbaijani: Xanəgah kompleksi) is a historic religious-architectural complex with arcade of XII-XIII centuries. It is a part of Old City and located on Kichik Gala street, in the city of Baku, in Azerbaijan. It was also registered as a national architectural monument by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated August 2, 2001, No. 132. The complex was discovered during archeological excavations carried out in 1964 on the northern side of the Maiden Tower.

Isa bek Hajinski House or the House of Hajinski is located near the Maiden's Tower in Sabail, Baku. It survived a period of rapid prosperity, met with the aggressive fury of the Dashnaks and Bolsheviks, endured total nationalisation, and has absorbed the whole turbulent history of the past century.

The Multani Caravanserai is a caravanserai located in Baku, Azerbaijan. It was established in the 14th century and is located opposite to the Bukhara Caravanserai.The caravanserai was built to house merchants from the medieval city of Multan (now in Punjab, Pakistan) who frequented the region for trade, and used this caravanserai as a stop. They included Zoroastrians, who are also believed to have erected the Ateshgah Temple in Surakhani.The caravanserai has a square shape and the construction of the building is in an ancient style. There are a lot of balconies around the courtyard. Now the Multani Caravanserai houses a restaurant of Azerbaijani cuisine. In 2020, restoration works were commenced on the site with a completion time of 2022.The caravanserai has been linked to the historical relationship between Azerbaijan and Pakistan.

The Gileyli Mosque (Azerbaijani: Gileyli Məscidi) or Jomard Garay Mosque (Azerbaijani: Comərd Gəray Məscidi) is a mosque, located on Mirza Mansur street in the Old City of Baku in Azerbaijan. Completed in 1309, the building was registered as a national architectural monument by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan on August 2, 2001, No. 132.

The Administration of the State Historical-Architectural Reserve "Icherisheher" was established by presidential order No. 629, dated February 10, 2005, under the Ministers’ Cabinet of Azerbaijan. This Administration was created to integrate the functions and powers of both central and local executive authorities, aiming to preserve, investigate, and ensure the restoration of historical monuments and the architectural-urban planning complex within the Icherisheher (Icherisheher) territory.

The Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography is a museum in Baku, Azerbaijan, that was established in 1976. It bears the name of the Azerbaijani architect-Mikayil Huseynov. The museum has two parts. The ethnography section displays materials related to the 19th century and early 20th century, as well as the life of Azerbaijani people. The archaeology section exhibits findings covering all stages of Azerbaijani's historical development, its culture from the Stone Age to the late Middle Ages.The museum's exhibitions give detailed information about the sites of primitive people, living houses on the territory of Azerbaijan, settlements belonging to cattle breeders and farmers, historical and material culture of ancient states, gravestone monuments, Azerbaijani arts of ancient times, economy, lifestyle, moral values of ancestors of the Azerbaijani people.In 2008 the museum underwent restoration works and increased the number of its exhibitions to 2000.

The Sayyid Yahya Murtuza mosque (Azerbaijani: Seyid Yahya Murtuza məscidi) is a historical former mosque, located on Asaf Zeynalli street, in the Old City of Baku, in Azerbaijan. Completed in the 17th century, the building was registered as a national architectural monument by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated August 2, 2001, No. 132.
