Portobello Power Station

Portobello Open Air Pool was opened in Portobello, Edinburgh on Saturday 30 May 1936 at a cost of £90,000.

The Marine Gardens was an entertainment complex located in the Portobello area of Edinburgh, Scotland. Opened in 1909 as a pleasure garden and amusement park on the shores of the Firth of Forth, most of its original attractions apart from the ballroom were removed following military use of the site during the First World War. The complex also included a stadium which was used during the interwar period for football, greyhound racing and speedway. It was the home venue of Scottish Football League teams Leith Athletic (1928–1936) and Edinburgh City (1928–31 and 1934–35). The Marine Gardens closed down permanently in 1939 after again being taken over by the military, with the area being redeveloped after the Second World War.

Portobello Library is a public library in Portobello, Edinburgh, Scotland. The current building in Rosefield Place cost £37,500 and was opened on 11 October 1963 by Lord Provost Duncan M. Weatherstone with a stock of 26,000 books and eight staff. The previous accommodation in the Old Town Hall, now Portobello Police Station, was considered unfit for purpose and was criticized for being dirty, dark and overcrowded.Opened in 1897, the year after Portobello was formally incorporated into the City of Edinburgh, the library service is the joint-second oldest in Edinburgh (after Central Library (1890) and joint with Western (Dundee Street) Library (1897).In 1997, Portobello Library celebrated its centenary through a programme of talks.In June 2017, the Edinburgh Tool Library opened a lending service out of Portobello Library.Portobello Library is one of the main venues for events at Portobello's annual book festival in October.

Portobello Town Hall is a municipal structure in Portobello High Street, Portobello, Scotland. The building, which is expected to open under community management, is a Category B listed building.

St John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church is a Catholic parish located in the Portobello district of Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom, in the Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh. Its historic church is located at the junction of Brighton Place and Sandford Gardens. Its parochial school, St. John's RC Primary School, is located at 18 Duddingston Road. From 2017 the many parishes in Edinburgh have been organised into clusters to better coordinate their resources. St John the Evangelist is one of three parishes in Cluster 2 along with St. Mary Magdalene and St. Teresa of Lisieux.

Portobello is a coastal suburb of Edinburgh in eastern central Scotland. It lies 3 miles (5 km) east of the city centre, facing the Firth of Forth, between the suburbs of Joppa and Craigentinny. Although historically it was a town in its own right, it is officially a residential suburb of Edinburgh. The promenade fronts onto a wide sandy beach.

Portobello railway station was located at Station Brae, off Southfield Place, in the Portobello area of Edinburgh (Scotland), with footpath access from other locations. The station was opened in 1846 by the North British Railway. It replaced an earlier Portobello station nearby on the Edinburgh and Dalkeith Railway.

Craigentinny Traction Maintenance Depot (also known as Craigentinny Train Maintenance Centre) is a railway depot in the Craigentinny area of Edinburgh, Scotland. The depot is operated by Hitachi Rail with a depot code of EC.The depot opened in 1904, as a carriage sidings and was home to InterCity 125 HSTs operated by London North Eastern Railway until 31 December 2019. It does however still maintain CrossCountry InterCity 125 sets overnight. It also services Class 220/221 Voyagers for CrossCountry and Class 397s for TransPennine Express. Hitachi Rail now undertakes maintenance on London North Eastern Railway Class 800s and 801s, ScotRail Class 385s, TransPennine Express Class 802s and Lumo Class 803s. It also maintains Class 73s for the Caledonian Sleeper.The site comprises three maintenance sheds, two of which are supplied with 25,000 volts overhead wires, and a smaller repair shed for shorter trains and locomotives. There are a number of storage and stabling sidings which are not covered. On 11 November 2018, Hitachi Rail took over the operation of Craigentinny Depot from London North Eastern Railway. Craigentinny also operates a wheel lathe at its Portobello Edinburgh site which turns out tyre damage on rail vehicle wheels for many rail operators.

The George Cinema is a former Art Deco cinema on Bath Street in Portobello, Edinburgh. The building opened in 1939 as the County Cinema. For many years a bingo hall, it is a Category C listed building.

Portobello Toddler Hut is an early pioneer nursery school in Portobello, Edinburgh, Scotland, founded in 1929, and opened on Saturday, 14 November 1931 by Harriet, Lady Findlay, on "an appallingly wet day". When opened it catered for 40 children from 2 to 5 years of age. Starting at 10am, the older children returned home at midday and the younger ones stayed and had a meal and an afternoon sleep. It was run by a committee of ladies on a voluntary basis. The Education Committee of Edinburgh gave a grant to cover about a third of the costs, with the remaining money subscribed "so that bread-winning mothers may be relieved of the care of their children during the busy part of the day". Montessori methods were used to prepare the toddlers for more formal education. As well as a nursery the Hut was used for many years as a shelter for children lost on the beach during the summer holidays. The Toddler Hut is still operating in Beach Lane Portobello, the oldest community run, self funded childcare facility in the UK. During the COVID-19 crisis, the Hut was saved from closure thanks to a fundraising campaign.

The Edinburgh and Dalkeith Railway opened Portobello railway station in July 1832. It remained in use until 1846 when a replacement station was opened nearby on the NBR Main Line.

Portobello Pier was a pleasure pier opened in Portobello, Edinburgh, Scotland. Designed by Thomas Bouch, it was 1,250 feet (380 m) long and 22 feet (6.70 m) wide, and included a tea room, camera obscura, and a concert hall. The final construction costs were £10,000.
