Great Boston Fire of 1872

The 1978 Blackfriars Massacre, also known as the Blackfriars murders, is an unsolved Irish Mob and/or Italian-American Mafia massacre that occurred on June 28, 1978, in the Blackfriars Pub in Downtown Boston, Massachusetts. Four criminals known to the police and a former Channel 7 (now WHDH-TV) Boston television investigative news anchorman, Jack Kelly, were killed, allegedly over the sale of cocaine.

Church Green Buildings Historic District is a historic district at 101-113 Summer Street in Boston, Massachusetts. It was built on the site of New South Church, which had been designed by Charles Bulfinch, following the destruction of the church in the Great Boston Fire of 1872. The building was originally used by trade association offices and warehouses for the leather trade. The design is thought to be by Jonathan PrestonThe district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999. This building was designated as a Boston Landmark by the Boston Landmarks Commission in 1979.

New South Church (1714-1866) was a Congregational unitarian church of the "New South Society" in Boston, Massachusetts, located on "Church Green" at the corner of Summer Street and Bedford Street. Pastors included Samuel Checkley and John Thornton Kirkland. In 1814 architect Charles Bulfinch designed a new building for the society; it was demolished in 1868. The congregation merged with the New South Free Church in 1866.

St. Anthony's Shrine, the "Church on Arch Street," is a center for Roman Catholic ministry in Boston, Massachusetts directed by the Franciscan friars of Holy Name Province. The Bedford Block is an historic commercial building at 99 Bedford Street Boston, Massachusetts in an area called Church Green. Built in 1875 in a style promoted by John Ruskin called Venetian Gothic. The style may also be referred to as Ruskinian Gothic.It was designed by Charles Amos Cummings and Willard T. Sears for Henry and Francis Lee as a retail shoe center in an area that had been destroyed by the Great Boston Fire of 1872. The building was added to the National Historic Register in 1979. Building was renovated in 1983 in conjunction with the Bay-Bedford Company.The Bedford Block's exterior is constructed of polychromatic bands of New Brunswick red granite, Tuckahoen marble, and pressed terra-cotta panels manufactured in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was the first building after the Great Fire to use New Brunswick red granite as a material.The first floor features rough rustic blocks. Upper floor details include arched bay windows, Viollet-le-Duc inspired iron balconets and flat column pilasters. Each roof gable is topped with a finial crown. There is a glazed tile clock is located in a 5-story tower at the corner of Bedford and Summer streets.

100 Summer Street is a high-rise building located in downtown Boston, Massachusetts. The building stands at 450 feet (140 m) with 33 floors, over 1.03 million square feet (over 92,000 m2) of office space, and was completed in 1974. It is ranked 24th on the list of tallest buildings in Boston. The building is notable for the distinctive bronze tint of its windows. It was designed in a U-shaped footprint to accommodate a small public plaza. Welton Becket and Associates was the architect. In 1998, EQ Office acquired the building.

The Wigglesworth Building is a historic building at 89-83 Franklin Street in the Financial District of Boston, Massachusetts. The five-story Neo-Gothic Panel Brick building was constructed in 1873, and was one of the first buildings rebuilt after the Great Boston Fire of 1872. Designed by Nathaniel Bradlee of Bradlee, Winslow & Wetherell, it features a curving red panel brick front with detailed sandstone panels. The top floor, added in 1885, is set back from the main facade and features arched windows. It was apparently designed by Peabody & Stearns, who did design work for the building after an 1884 fire.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

Winthrop Square is a public square in Boston, Massachusetts. It is located in the city's financial district, in a small plot between Otis Street to the west and Devonshire Street to the east. It is three blocks south of the Old State House and two blocks west of Post Office Square.

One Lincoln Street, also known as State Street Financial Center, is a skyscraper in Boston, Massachusetts on the edge of both the Financial District and neighborhood of Chinatown. Completed in 2003, it was built using Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA) guidelines. Standing at 503 feet (153 m) tall, One Lincoln Street is the 17th-tallest building in Boston. The skyscraper has a five-level underground garage that provides parking for 900 cars. It contains 1 million square feet (93,000 square meter) of office space. The building was designed by TRO Jung Brannen. During the topping off ceremony Mayor Thomas M. Menino stated "One Lincoln will be a tremendous addition to the City and will become a signature gateway to the Financial District". The skyscraper is also the headquarters of the State Street Corporation.

Trinity Church (1735-1872) was an Episcopal church in Boston, Massachusetts, located on Summer Street. It housed Boston's third Anglican congregation. The Great Fire of 1872 destroyed the church building, and by 1877 the congregation moved into a new building in Back Bay.

At the founding of The Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States, all of New England was considered one diocese — the Diocese of Connecticut — led by Bishop Samuel Seabury. In 1811, the congregations in Massachusetts petitioned the General Convention to form a separate diocese consisting of the states of Massachusetts (including Maine), Rhode Island, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Titled the Eastern Diocese of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America, its first bishop was Alexander Viets Griswold. Vermont elected its own bishop in 1832, and separated from the Eastern Diocese. New Hampshire also separated in 1832. The Eastern Diocese ceased to exist in 1843, when Rhode Island and Maine also elected bishops, following the death of Bishop Griswold.

The Rowe Street Baptist Church was built in 1846 in Boston, Massachusetts. It was the third Baptist church built in the city.
