Temple Sowerby

The River Lyvennet is a river flowing through the county of Cumbria in England. The source of the Lyvennet (as Lyvennet Beck) is to be found close to Robin Hood's Grave on Crosby Ravensworth Moor, an area rich in ancient remains. From there, the beck flows northwards through Crosby Ravensworth, Mauld's Meaburn and King's Meaburn, emerging as the River Lyvennet. The river is joined by the River Leith shortly before the Lyvennet's own confluence with the River Eden. Several Pedigree cattle herds are named after the river including Lyvennet Simmentals of Greystone House, King's Meaburn. The Lyvennet valley may preserve the name of Taliesin's "Llwyfenydd" and would thus be associated with the post-Roman Brythonic kingdom of Rheged. The meaning of the Welsh word "llwyfen" is the elm tree.

Temple Sowerby railway station was a railway station situated on the Eden Valley Railway between Penrith and Kirkby Stephen East. It served the village of Temple Sowerby. The station opened to passenger traffic on 9 June 1862, and closed on 7 December 1953. It is now a private residence.

Acorn Bank Garden & Watermill is a National Trust property situated just north of Temple Sowerby, near Penrith, Cumbria, England.The garden features over 250 medicinal and culinary herbs and is protected by ancient oaks and high walls. There are orchards with old varieties of English fruit and a partially restored watermill. It was left to the trust in 1950 by Dorothy Una Ratcliffe, a popular author in the Yorkshire dialect, who bought and restored the house and garden. The house was known for some time as Temple Sowerby Manor before the National Trust reverted to its original name of Acorn Bank in 1969.

Culgaith railway station served the village of Culgaith in Cumberland (now in Cumbria), England from 1880 to 1970.

Culgaith is a village and civil parish in the Westmorland and Furness district of Cumbria, north west England. The village is on a ridge above the River Eden, between Temple Sowerby and Langwathby. At the 2001 census the parish had a population of 721, increasing to 826 at the 2011 Census.Amenities include All Saints Church, and its associated primary school, as well as a public house. The village railway station closed in 1970.

Crossrigg Hall is a country house in the civil parish of Bolton, Cumbria in the northern United Kingdom. It was built in 1864 by Lieutenant Colonel Hugh Rigg of the Indian Army's Madras Infantry. Designed by Anthony Salvin, and with later additions by J. H. Martindale, the hall is a Grade II* listed building.

The River Leith is a watercourse in Cumbria, a county of northwestern England. Rising at Shap, the Leith flows north alongside the M6 motorway via Great and Little Strickland before turning eastward at Melkinthorpe. Having passed through Cliburn, the Leith flows into the River Lyvennet at Cliburn Mill.

New Biggin or Newbiggin was a railway station which served the village of Newbiggin near Kirkby Thore in Newbiggin parish, Cumbria, England. It was located on the Settle-Carlisle Line, 24+3⁄4 miles (39.8 km) south of Carlisle. Whilst the station is now disused, the line is still operational and the nearest open station is Appleby.

Newbiggin is a village and civil parish near the larger village of Temple Sowerby, in the Eden District of the English county of Cumbria. In 2001 it had a population of 96. The population at the 2011 Census was less than 100 and data was included with Temple Sowerby. Newbiggin station opened in 1876 and closed in 1970.

The River Eamont is a river in Cumbria, England and one of the major tributaries of the River Eden. The name of the river is from Old English (ēa-gemōt) and is a back formation from Eamont Bridge which means the junction of streams.The river is formed by the outflow from Ullswater in the Lake District, later augmented by Dacre Beck from the west and the River Lowther which carries the water from Haweswater north to the Eamont at Penrith. It reaches the Eden 4 miles (7 km) east of Penrith.The river has flooded on numerous occasions; the most recent was when Storm Desmond hit in December 2015. During the flooding, 300-year old Pooley Bridge was washed away and a temporary bridge had to be installed to reconnect the two halves of the village. The same storm damaged the grade I listed Eamont Bridge, but after masonry work, it re-opened in March 2016. In April 2019 preparatory works began to replace the temporary bridge with a new bridge. The crossing was closed from September 2019 until Easter 2020, while the new bridge was installed. The river is also a stronghold of the endangered white clawed crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes).

Cliburn railway station was a station situated on the Eden Valley Railway in Westmorland (now in Cumbria), England. It served the village of Cliburn to the south. The station opened to passenger traffic on 9 June 1862, and closed on 17 September 1956.

Cliburn is a village and civil parish in the Eden district of Cumbria, England. The civil parish includes the hamlet of Town Head. In 2001 the population was 204, increasing to 274 at the 2011 Census.
