Housing at the University of Washington

John T. Condon Hall is an academic building of the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. The building formerly housed the UW School of Law. The hall was named after John T. Condon, the first dean of the School of Law.

Terry and Lander Halls are two student residence halls of the University of Washington. They have occupied various buildings over the years, have always been residence halls and always next to each other until the current construction which has Maple Hall between them. The set of buildings was named for Charles and Mary Terry and Judge Edward Lander, who contributed part of the land for the original Territorial University's 10-acre (40,000 m2) Seattle campus in 1861.

The Wall of Death is a permanently sited public art installation located under the University Bridge in Seattle, alongside the Burke-Gilman Trail and NE 40th Street in the University District. It was designed and built by Mowry Baden and his son, Colin, in 1993. The installation is a representation of the structure used to perform the motorcycle and miniature automobile stunt, the wall of death. It includes the cylinder itself on the south side of the Burke-Gilman Trail, as well as a concrete ramp to the north of the trail, which includes a "series of stylized metal chairs mounted to the existing concrete bridge columns" and serves as the stands from which the stunts were viewed. The ramp provided a spot for skateboarders to ride, but after seven complaints and a head-on collision between a skateboarder and a cyclist in 2008, The Seattle Department of Transportation installed a rock barrier to deter skateboarders from interacting with the art. Although Mowry Baden had intended the installation to be used by skateboarders, he agreed that public safety was more important and met with the city in December 2008, to discuss updating it. Twenty-five concrete parking stops were then added to the sculpture, making it impossible to skate on.

Peace Park is a park located in the University District of Seattle, Washington, at the corner of N.E. 40th Street and 9th Avenue N.E., at the northern end of the University Bridge. Its construction was conceived and led by Floyd Schmoe, winner of the 1988 Hiroshima Peace Prize, and dedicated on August 6, 1990. 45 years after the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, it is home to a full-size bronze statue of Sadako Sasaki sculpted by Daryl Smith. Schoolchildren and other community members from around the city of Seattle frequently drape strings of peace cranes on the statue apparently following the Japanese custom of the 'Thousand Origami Cranes'.

The Last Exit on Brooklyn was a Seattle University District coffeehouse established in 1967 by Irv Cisski. It is known for its part in the history of Seattle's counterculture, for its pioneering role in establishing Seattle's coffee culture, and as a former chess venue frequented by several master players.

The Playhouse Theatre (later University of Washington Playhouse Theatre, now officially Floyd and Delores Jones Playhouse) is a theater located at 4045 University Way NE (41st St) on The Ave in the University District, Seattle, Washington. It was converted from a tile warehouse in 1930 by Burton and Florence James, who set up the Seattle Repertory Playhouse with multi-ethnic performers and audiences. They received funding during the Federal Theatre Project (FTP) of the New Deal to set up the Negro Repertory Company, one of four FTP units in Seattle, which was based at their theatre. The facility was sold to the University of Washington in 1950, which used it for its theatre department. In 1967 it was converted from a proscenium to a thrust stage. From 2007 to 2009, the building was reconstructed to add a story and make numerous improvements.

The Joint Institute for the Study of the Atmosphere and Ocean (JISAO) has existed since 1977 for the purpose of fostering research collaboration between National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR) and the University of Washington (UW). Dr. John K. Horne is the current director. Fritz Hedges Waterway Park, also known as Portage Bay Park, is a 3.5-acre (0.014 km2) park on the north shore of Portage Bay in the neighborhood of University District of Seattle, Washington. The park includes a beach, pier, and a canoe and kayak launch. The park is Seattle's newest park, having been opened on October 14th, 2020. Construction of the park took two years and included improvements to the habitat for salmon at the shoreline. The University of Washington owned the site since the 1970s and transferred ownership to the City of Seattle in 2013. The Washington State Department of Transportation provided $14 million to the city to purchase the site as compensation for the loss of public waterfront property due to the widening of State Route 520. The city provided $9 million to develop the park and the university paid $2.4 million for environmental remediation. The University Police station and a campus recycling facility were demolished to allow public access to the waterfront. The park was named after a Frederick 'Fritz' Hedges, a Seattle Parks and Recreation employee who died in 2004. The parks department said that Hedges "dedicated his life to the idea that parks and recreation are vital".

The University Bridge is a double-leaf bascule bridge in Seattle, Washington that carries Eastlake Avenue traffic over Portage Bay between Eastlake to the south and the University District to the north. It opened on July 1, 1919, and was extensively rebuilt from 1932 to 1933. It is included in the National Register of Historic Places.

The College of Built Environments (CBE) is an academic college at the University of Washington in Seattle. The CBE offers programs in architecture, construction management, landscape architecture, real estate, and urban planning. From 1957 to 2009, it was known as the College of Architecture and Urban Planning (CAUP). Today, the College of Built Environments is made up of five core units: Architecture/Architectural Design, Construction Management, Landscape Architecture, Real Estate, and Urban Design & Planning. It also houses two interdisciplinary Ph.D. degrees, as well as several other interdisciplinary centers and institutes. The 2009 name change reflects an integrated approach to planning, design, and construction that will be necessary to take on the 21st-century global challenges of urbanization and climate change. Renée Cheng is the current dean.

The University of Washington School of Social Work offers undergraduate, graduate and doctorate degree programs in social work with an enrollment of more than 600 students. The School is located in the University District neighborhood of Seattle, Washington adjacent to the main University of Washington campus. Beginning in the early 1900s, the School developed from a single course to an independent department accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Today, the School is ranked as one of the United States' top graduate programs in social work by the U.S. News & World Report.
