The Wildlife WayStation was a 160-acre animal sanctuary (65 ha) in Sylmar, California in northern Los Angeles County dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating wild and exotic animals. A charitable corporation located within the boundaries of Angeles National Forest, the facility was founded in 1976 by animal activist Martine Colette, who resigned in May 2019 as president and chief operating officer.

Lake View Terrace is a suburban neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley region of the City of Los Angeles, California.Surrounding areas include the Angeles National Forest, Little Tujunga Canyon, Big Tujunga Canyon, Hansen Dam, Kagel Canyon, and a portion of the Verdugo Mountains. The community lies adjacent to the communities of Sylmar, San Fernando, Shadow Hills, Sunland, Sun Valley, and Pacoima. The area shares the 91342 ZIP code with Sylmar. Lake View Terrace is accessed by the Foothill Freeway (Interstate 210) and the major thoroughfares of which include, Foothill Boulevard, Glenoaks Boulevard, Van Nuys Boulevard and Osborne Street. The community is middle-class and ethnically mixed, including Latinos, African-Americans, Whites and Asians.The area hosts a large equestrian community, and is one of the few remaining residential areas in the City of Los Angeles that has private homes zoned for horsekeeping. Lake View Terrace gained international notoriety as the location of the beating of Rodney King by officers of the Los Angeles Police Department in 1991. Lake View Terrace is also the setting of much of the 2008 film Lakeview Terrace, starring Samuel L. Jackson, although the area used for the neighborhood was actually filmed in Walnut, California.

Pacoima Dam is a concrete arch dam on Pacoima Creek in the San Gabriel Mountains, in Los Angeles County, California. The reservoir it creates, Pacoima Reservoir, has a capacity of 3,777 acre⋅ft (4,659,000 m3)Built by the Los Angeles County Flood Control District, which became part of the Department of Public Works, it was completed in 1928. At the time, the 371 foot (113m) high dam was the tallest arch dam in the U.S.The dam is situated approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) northeast of Sylmar, above the San Fernando Valley. As a flood control structure, district routinely compensates for hydraulic deficiencies in downstream areas by restraining flows of stormwater released from the dam.

Big Tujunga Creek is a major stream in Los Angeles County in the U.S. state of California. From its headwaters high in the San Gabriel Mountains, it flows generally southwest for 28.8 miles (46.3 km), joining Little Tujunga Creek to form the Tujunga Wash near Pacoima. The stream is sometimes considered as one with the Tujunga Wash, which is the continuation of Big Tujunga to the Los Angeles River, bringing the total length to more than 40 miles (64 km). The name of the stream is derived from a Tongva village name.

Shadow Hills (originally Hansen Heights) is a neighborhood in the Verdugo Mountains and northeastern San Fernando Valley, within the city of Los Angeles, California.

Griffith Ranch was owned by David Wark Griffith, a pioneer of silent motion pictures. He purchased the ranch in 1912, and is said to have filmed famous movies at the site, such as The Birth of a Nation (1915), Broken Blossoms (1919), Way Down East (1920) and Orphans of the Storm (1921). However, in almost all cases, such citations have not been validated. Griffith made about 500 films over the course of his career, filming some on his ranch. His last film was The Struggle (1931). The ranch is on what was formerly land belonging to the San Fernando Mission. The Griffith Ranch was designated a California Historic Landmark (No. 716) on Dec. 2, 1959. The ranch was sold in 1948 to residential developer Fritz B. Burns. In memory of the silent film pioneer, Burns did not change the ranch's name. The ranch is near the current Interstate 210 and California State Route 118 freeways in Sylmar, California at the north end of the San Fernando Valley.

Hansen Dam is a flood control dam in the northeastern San Fernando Valley, in the Lake View Terrace neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The dam was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Los Angeles District in 1940. Hansen Dam was named after horse ranchers Homer and Marie Hansen, who established a ranch in the 19th century. The Hansen Dam Recreation Center is located in the flood control basin and surrounding slopes behind the dam.

The Veterans Memorial Community Regional Park is a large, 97-acre (39 ha), county park in the neighborhood of Sylmar in Los Angeles, California. It is on the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains at the northeastern edge of the San Fernando Valley. The park includes grassy picnic areas, a large pavilion, camping areas, and a community recreation building.It borders the Angeles National Forest in the north; access is provided to the forest via the May Canyon Road and surrounding hiking trails. There is an 18-hole disc golf course in the south of the park. The park occupies the site of the San Fernando Veterans Administration Hospital built in the 1940s which was severely damaged by the 1971 Sylmar Earthquake. The United States' government transferred ownership of the property to the County of Los Angeles in 1972 and the hospital was demolished. The park was dedicated in 1979.The park has suffered fire damage on multiple occasions due to its proximity to fire-prone mountains. In 1990, a brush fire damaged about 5 acres of the park. On November, 2008, the Sayre Fire started near the park and caused severe fire damage to the park itself, including the destruction of the 2,000-square-foot (190 m2) administration building, a drawbridge gate, water supply equipment and a cactus garden. Access to the park was restricted by fire officials and at first not even park staff were allowed to enter.

The Monte Vista Hotel was a building which had been formerly located at the intersection of what today are Fenwick Street and Floralita Avenue in the Sunland-Tujunga district of Los Angeles. It was considered the first structure built in the district as well as the last surviving structure of a larger, pre-existing facility known as the Monte Vista Lodge.
