Pacoima Dam

The Veterans Memorial Community Regional Park is a large, 97-acre (39 ha), county park in the neighborhood of Sylmar in Los Angeles, California. It is on the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains at the northeastern edge of the San Fernando Valley. The park includes grassy picnic areas, a large pavilion, camping areas, and a community recreation building.It borders the Angeles National Forest in the north; access is provided to the forest via the May Canyon Road and surrounding hiking trails. There is an 18-hole disc golf course in the south of the park. The park occupies the site of the San Fernando Veterans Administration Hospital built in the 1940s which was severely damaged by the 1971 Sylmar Earthquake. The United States' government transferred ownership of the property to the County of Los Angeles in 1972 and the hospital was demolished. The park was dedicated in 1979.The park has suffered fire damage on multiple occasions due to its proximity to fire-prone mountains. In 1990, a brush fire damaged about 5 acres of the park. On November, 2008, the Sayre Fire started near the park and caused severe fire damage to the park itself, including the destruction of the 2,000-square-foot (190 m2) administration building, a drawbridge gate, water supply equipment and a cactus garden. Access to the park was restricted by fire officials and at first not even park staff were allowed to enter.

Tia Chucha's Centro Cultural is a non-profit cultural center and bookstore in Sylmar, California. It was founded in 2003 by noted Chicano author Luis J. Rodriguez, his wife Trini Rodriguez, Angelica Loa, and Victor Mendoza (Victor E) of El Vuh. Tia Chucha's provides arts and music workshops and events to the culturally underserved Northeastern San Fernando Valley.

The Creek Fire was a large wildfire that burned in Kagel Canyon and the Angeles National Forest north of Sylmar, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, California, United States, and one of multiple wildfires that broke out across Southern California in December 2017. The Creek Fire burned 15,619 acres (63 km2) and destroyed 123 structures, including 60 homes, before being contained on January 9, 2018, following heavy rainfall from a winter storm. The fire threatened the communities of Santa Clarita, Glendale, Olive View, Lake View Terrace, Sunland-Tujunga, Shadow Hills, Sylmar, Pacoima, Lopez Canyon, and Kagel Canyon, as well as the Olive View–UCLA Medical Center. During the wildfire, 115,000 residents were forced to evacuate their homes.

Wipeout is an American television game show that features contestants competing in (what was billed as) the "World's Largest" obstacle course which originally aired on ABC from June 24, 2008, to September 7, 2014. In 2021, the show was rebooted on TBS, with John Cena, Nicole Byer, and Camille Kostek as hosts.The show was originally hosted and commentated by John Henson and John Anderson, while Jill Wagner acted as the "on-location" reporter. The interim reporter for one season was Vanessa Lachey. The creators and executive producers are Matt Kunitz and Scott Larsen. Distribution of the show was handled by Endemol Shine. The show was taped at Sable Ranch in Canyon Country, Santa Clarita, California, north of Los Angeles.

Wilson Canyon Park is a public park located in the western San Gabriel Mountains, in the neighborhood of Sylmar in the northeastern San Fernando Valley in the northern portion of the City of Los Angeles, California.

Griffith Ranch was owned by David Wark Griffith, a pioneer of silent motion pictures. He purchased the ranch in 1912, and is said to have filmed famous movies at the site, such as The Birth of a Nation (1915), Broken Blossoms (1919), Way Down East (1920) and Orphans of the Storm (1921). However, in almost all cases, such citations have not been validated. Griffith made about 500 films over the course of his career, filming some on his ranch. His last film was The Struggle (1931). The ranch is on what was formerly land belonging to the San Fernando Mission. The Griffith Ranch was designated a California Historic Landmark (No. 716) on Dec. 2, 1959. The ranch was sold in 1948 to residential developer Fritz B. Burns. In memory of the silent film pioneer, Burns did not change the ranch's name. The ranch is near the current Interstate 210 and California State Route 118 freeways in Sylmar, California at the north end of the San Fernando Valley.

Olive View–UCLA Medical Center is a hospital, funded by Los Angeles County, located in the Sylmar neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. It is one of the primary healthcare delivery systems in the north San Fernando Valley, serving the area's large working-class population. Olive View is also the closest county hospital serving the Antelope Valley after High Desert Hospital was converted to an urgent care clinic in 2003.

Kagel Canyon is a rural unincorporated community in Los Angeles County, California.

The César E. Chávez Learning Academies, also known as Valley Region High School 5 (VRHS #5), is a public high school of the Los Angeles Unified School District. It is located in the City of San Fernando in the San Fernando Valley region of the Los Angeles metropolitan area, in the US state of California. It is named after César Chávez. The school opened in 2011, relieving overcrowding at San Fernando High School, Sylmar High School, Kennedy High School, and Verdugo Hills High School. When the school opened it had 1,600 students. Its design was based on historical California missions. The school campus is divided into four academies: Technology Prep Academy, ArTES, Social Justice Humanitas Academy, and San Fernando Academy of Scientific Exploration (ASE).

Sylmar Charter High School is a charter school in the northeast San Fernando Valley in the Sylmar district of Los Angeles, California. Established in 1961, it is part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, District 2, and serves more than 3,600 students in grades 9–12. The school mascot is the Spartans.
