Wabern, Hesse

Wabern (Bz Kassel) is a railway station in the municipality of Wabern, in the German state of Hesse. It is on the Main to Weser railway from Frankfurt to Kassel. The station is a stop for ICE trains with connections towards Bremen and Karlsruhe. It was once an important railway junction, as the line to Brilon Wald (Wabern–Bad Wildungen and Wega–Brilon Wald lines) branched off here with a connection to the Ruhr area. Today this branch line ends in Bad Wildungen. The station opened in December 1849, at the same time as the railway line from Kassel. The extension to Treysa opened a few days later. The station has a main building designed by Julius Eugen Ruhl. In 2018 the station was modernized to be barrier-free, involving the construction of a new underpass, three elevators and raised platforms. The work cost €15 million. Lembach is a small river of Hesse, Germany. It flows into the Schwalm river near Wabern.

The Efze (German pronunciation: [ˈɛftsə]) is a river of Hesse, Germany and tributary of the Schwalm. It joins the Schwalm on the right bank near Wabern. The tributaries of the Efze include the nearly 22-km long Ohebach.

The formerly independent municipality of Singlis merged with Borken in 1974 at which time its population was 880. It lies within the county of Schwalm-Eder-Kreis in Hesse, Germany. Its neighbouring municipalities are: Lembach (part of the municipality of Homberg) to the southeast, Borken to the southwest, Gombeth to the northwest and Lendorf to the east.

Lendorf is a constituent community of Borken (Hesse, Germany) and had its first documentary mention in 1221 as "Lintdorf". Once an independent community, it has now been amalgamated with Borken since 1971. Lendorf has about 400 inhabitants. 474 Hectare (51,020,886 sq ft) are the boundary of Lendorf.

Fritzlar Air Base (German: Heeresflugplatz Fritzlar, IATA: FRZ, ICAO: ETHF) is a military air field of the German Army Aviation Corps. It is located near the town of Fritzlar in northern Hesse, Germany. The airfield is part of the Georg-Friedrich-Kaserne (Georg-Friedrich-Barracks). Fritzlar is the home of Kampfhubschrauberregiment 36 "Kurhessen" (Attack Helicopter Regiment 36 "Kurhessen"), which is flying the MBB Bo 105 in anti-tank (PAH-1 & PAH-1A1) and light transport (VBH) version. Currently the PAH version is going to be replaced by the Eurocopter Tiger. Replacement was to be finished in 2012 but is much delayed.

Singliser See is a lake in West Hesse Depression, Hesse, Germany. At an elevation of 185 m, its surface area is 74 ha.

The 1st Airmobile Brigade (German: Luftbewegliche Brigade 1) was a brigade in the German Army with its headquarters at the Fritzlar Air Base in North Hesse, It was part of the Airmobile Operations Division (Germany). The various elements of the brigade were located in the federal states of Lower Saxony, Hesse and Bavaria. Parts of the brigade were classed as intervention forces.

Gombeth is a constituent community of Borken (Hesse, Germany) and had its first documentary mention in 857 as "Gumbetta die Marka". Once an independent community, it was amalgamated with Borken in 1974. Gombeth is surrounded on all sides by former open-pit brown coal mines, being found to the south, towards Singlis (nowadays a windsurfing lake), and towards Borken. The pit east of Gombeth was filled in by PreussenElektra as part of the renaturation programme.

Fritzlar (German pronunciation: [ˈfʁɪtslaːɐ̯] ) is a small town (pop. 15,000) in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse, Germany, 160 km (99 mi) north of Frankfurt, with a storied history. The town has a medieval center ringed by a wall with numerous watch towers. The "Grey Tower" ("Grauer Turm") is the highest remaining urban defense tower in Germany, at thirty-eight meters (125 feet) high. The city hall, first documented in 1109, with a stone relief of St. Martin, the town's patron saint, is the oldest in Germany still in use for its original purpose. The Gothic church of the old Franciscan monastery is today the Protestant parish church, and the monastery's other buildings have been converted into a modern hospital. Many houses in the town center, notably around the market square, date from the 15th to 17th centuries and have been carefully maintained or restored. The town is dominated by the imposing Romanesque-Gothic Church of St. Peter from the 12th-14th centuries. In 1974, the town hosted the 14th Hessentag state festival.
