Fritzlar Air Base

The 1st Airmobile Brigade (German: Luftbewegliche Brigade 1) was a brigade in the German Army with its headquarters at the Fritzlar Air Base in North Hesse, It was part of the Airmobile Operations Division (Germany). The various elements of the brigade were located in the federal states of Lower Saxony, Hesse and Bavaria. Parts of the brigade were classed as intervention forces.

Fritzlar (German pronunciation: [ˈfʁɪtslaːɐ̯] ) is a small town (pop. 15,000) in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse, Germany, 160 km (99 mi) north of Frankfurt, with a storied history. The town has a medieval center ringed by a wall with numerous watch towers. The "Grey Tower" ("Grauer Turm") is the highest remaining urban defense tower in Germany, at thirty-eight meters (125 feet) high. The city hall, first documented in 1109, with a stone relief of St. Martin, the town's patron saint, is the oldest in Germany still in use for its original purpose. The Gothic church of the old Franciscan monastery is today the Protestant parish church, and the monastery's other buildings have been converted into a modern hospital. Many houses in the town center, notably around the market square, date from the 15th to 17th centuries and have been carefully maintained or restored. The town is dominated by the imposing Romanesque-Gothic Church of St. Peter from the 12th-14th centuries. In 1974, the town hosted the 14th Hessentag state festival.

Saint Peter's Church (German: St. Peterskirche) is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica located in the small German town of Fritzlar. It is often colloquially referred to as a cathedral (German: Fritzlarer Dom), due to its great size.

The formerly independent community of Großenenglis has been since its amalgamation with Borken in 1974 with its population then of 1,190 the northernmost and largest by land area (988 ha) of Borken's constituent communities. The following constituent communities are in direct neighbourhood. In the south is Gombeth, in the west Kleinenglis and in the east Udenborn[1] (among to the municipal of Wabern).

Wabern (German pronunciation: [ˈvaːbɐn] ) is a municipality in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse, Germany. It lies on the Main-Weser Railway between Kassel and Frankfurt. From Wabern, the Edersee Railway runs to Bad Wildungen.

The Büraberg is a hill in the county of Schwalm-Eder-Kreis, Hesse, Germany.

The Büraburg was a prominent hill castle with historic significance, on the Büraberg hill overlooking the Eder river near the town of Fritzlar in northern Hesse (Germany). Only foundation walls remain, and a church dedicated to St. Brigida. A Christian monastery was already located on the hill in the seventh century. It was occupied by the Franks c. 690, who fortified it with a castle and kept a mounted garrison there. The Franks supported the missionary efforts of Saint Boniface, who cut down the Donar Oak in nearby Geismar and established a short-lived bishopric in Büraburg.

Gombeth is a constituent community of Borken (Hesse, Germany) and had its first documentary mention in 857 as "Gumbetta die Marka". Once an independent community, it was amalgamated with Borken in 1974. Gombeth is surrounded on all sides by former open-pit brown coal mines, being found to the south, towards Singlis (nowadays a windsurfing lake), and towards Borken. The pit east of Gombeth was filled in by PreussenElektra as part of the renaturation programme.

Kleinenglis is a constituent community of Borken (Hesse, Germany). Kleinenglis has about 1300 inhabitants, and over the years it has become Borken's biggest community.

Olmes is a river of Hesse, Germany. It flows into the Schwalm near Borken.
