Michaelston-le-Pit and Leckwith

St Michael's Church is a Grade I listed church in Michaelston-le-Pit, in the Vale of Glamorgan, south Wales. It became a Grade I listed building on 28 January 1963. The church was probably built by the Reigny family; earliest records of it date to the Taxation of Norwich in 1254, where it was referred to as St Michael de Renny and was valued at four marks. The parish at one time consisted of the Manor of Michaelston-le-Pit and the church was an advowson included with the manor in the 15th and 17th centuries. By 1563, a cleric was in residence.The church was known by a variety of names over time: "Michaelstowe" and "Michaelstown", which changed with the name of the land owner. In the 16th century it was called Michaelston le Pole, as the De la Pole family owned the manor before 1493. The present name is likely taken from le Peyt; the le Peyt family owned the land before selling it to the Reignys.The church has many items which date to medieval times, including a baptismal font which was lost at the time of the Battle of St Fagans and was later discovered in a local field. It also has the only triple decker pulpit found in the Vale of Glamorgan. The lychgate of the churchyard is a memorial to local soldiers killed in World War I; it became a Grade II listed building 25 April 2002.

Michaelston-le-Pit (Welsh: Llanfihangel-y-pwll) is a village in the Vale of Glamorgan, just to the west of the city of Cardiff, Wales. It is part of the Michaelston-le-Pit and Leckwith community. The community population taken at the 2011 census was 309.To the south lies the town of Penarth, while to the south west lies the village of Dinas Powys. The village is built near the confluence of two small streams, which join to form the Cadoxton River. The French suffix is possibly derived from a clay pit near the southern end of the village, it having been settled on a Norman family, the De Raneghs, after the conquest. Llanfihangel-y-pwll means The Church of St Michael and All Angels of the Pool or Pit. It is not to be confused with Latin suffixed Michaelston-super-Ely (Cardiff) or Welsh suffixed Michaelstone-y-Fedw (Newport).

The Dinas Powys hillfort is an Iron Age hillfort near Dinas Powys, Glamorgan, Wales. It is just one of several thousand hillforts to have been constructed around Great Britain during the British Iron Age, for reasons that are still debatable. The main fort at Dinas Powys was constructed on the northernmost point of the hill in either the third or 2nd century BCE, with two further constructs, known as the Southern Banks, being built further down on the southern end of the hill in the following 1st century BCE. It appears that occupation at the site ceased during the period of Roman Britain, but was re-inhabited by an Early Mediaeval settlement in the 5th century CE, who constructed further additions to the fort. The site was subsequently excavated by a team of archaeologists led by Leslie Alcock from 1954 through to 1958. The hillfort, which was called the dinas (city or fortress) by Welsh speaking locals, is probably the reason the neighbouring village was named Dinas Powys, and archaeologists excavating the site in the mid 20th century decided to rename the hillfort after the settlement, with excavator Leslie Alcock remarking that "it therefore seemed appropriate by a kind of back-formation to restore the village name to [the fortifications]".

Leckwith (Welsh: Lecwydd) is a small village in the Vale of Glamorgan, just west of Cardiff. Historically, the parish of Leckwith also included land on the east side of the river Ely that is now part of Cardiff itself. This area is also commonly known as Leckwith.

Ely Racecourse was a horse racing venue in the Ely district of Cardiff, Wales. The racecourse opened in 1855, with the first race being held on 30 May. By 1864 racing at Ely was a regular event, the races that year were acclaimed as 'the most brilliant and successful ever held'.

The club competes at the Cardiff International Sports Stadium and comprises five sections, each specialising in a separate sport: track and field, road running, cross country, mountain running, and road walking. Cardiff AAC athletes have won a total of 122 medals at major international championships—Olympic and Paralympic Games, World and European Championships, Commonwealth Games and the World University Games.

Cardiff International Sports Campus (Welsh: Campws Chwaraeon Rhyngwladol Caerdydd), is an athletics stadium and playing fields in the Leckwith area of Cardiff, Wales. The campus opened in 2009 as part of the major Leckwith Development, which included a new football and rugby stadium, Cardiff City Stadium, and a retail park. In July 2015, Cardiff Council let the stadium and its grounds to Cardiff and Vale College, who further sublet the sports facilities to Cardiff City House of Sport. This lease runs for 30 years as a result of which the stadium is no longer open to the public during the day, although evening opening is unaffected.
