Laxton is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The village is situated approximately 2 miles (3 km) east from Howden and 19 miles (31 km) south-east from the county town of York. The civil parish is formed by the village of Laxton and the hamlets of Cotness, Metham and Saltmarshe. A very small part of Yokefleet also falls within the parish. According to the 2011 UK census, Laxton parish had a population of 314, a reduction on the 2001 UK census figure of 322.Laxton lies within the Parliamentary constituency of Haltemprice and Howden an area that mainly consists of middle class suburbs, towns and villages. The area is affluent, placed as the 10th most affluent in the country in a Barclays Private Clients survey, and has one of the highest proportions of owner-occupiers in the country.The village is served by Saltmarshe railway station on the Sheffield to Hull Line. In 1823 Laxton was in the civil parish of Howden, and in the Wapentake and Liberty of Howdenshire. Population at the time was 268. Occupations included seven farmers, two carpenters, a corn miller, a tailor, a shopkeeper, a shoemaker, a schoolmaster and public house landlords of the White Horse; the Mason's Arms, who was also a bricklayer; and the Cross Keys, who was also a blacksmith. Resident was the ecclesiastical parish curate and a Philip Saltmarshe, Esquire of Saltmarshe.

It is named after Saltmarshe, but is 1 mile (1.6 km) to the north near the village of Laxton.

Howdenshire was a wapentake and a liberty of England, lying around the town of Howden in the East Riding of Yorkshire.In the Anglo-Saxon period, the district was under the control of Peterborough's monastery, but it was confiscated by Edward the Confessor, and then given to the Bishop of Durham by William I of England. It came to operate as an exclave of County Durham, much like Allertonshire, but under the dean of Durham rather than the bishop. This peculiarity was abolished in 1846, but the district is still in use for certain administrative purposes.

Saltmarshe Hall is a grade II* listed 19th-century country house in Saltmarshe, East Riding of Yorkshire, England, on the north bank of the River Ouse across from Goole. It stands in 17 acres of gardens. It is constructed of brick faced with ashlar with Welsh slate roofs. The square two storey main building has a five-bay frontage with a five-bay servant's wing attached.

In 1823, Baines recorded that Balkholme was in the parish of Howden, and the wapentake and liberty of Howdenshire, and had a population of 105 including eight farmers. Balkholme was formerly a township in the parish of Howden, from 1866 Balkholme was a civil parish in its own right, on 1 April 1935 the parish was abolished and merged with Kilpin and Eastrington, part also went to form Gilberdyke.At the east side of Balkholme is West Linton Farmhouse, a Grade II listed late 18th-century house, of two-storeys and three-bays. It is built of red brick in Flemish bond, with pantile roof, and has a 19th-century wing.There is a small RAF memorial garden on Brow Lane where a mid-air collision occurred during the Second World War between two Halifax Bombers of 578 Squadron.

According to the 2011 UK census, Kilpin parish had a population of 339, a decrease on the 2001 UK census figure of 357.In 1823 Kilpin was in the parish of Howden and the Wapentake and Liberty of Howdenshire. Population at the time was 318, and included four farmers and a yeoman.

Reedness is a village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) east of the town of Goole and lies on the south bank of the River Ouse. The civil parish is formed by the village of Reedness and the hamlet of Little Reedness. According to the 2011 UK census, Reedness parish had a population of 339, a decrease on the 2001 UK census figure of 355.The parish was part of the Goole Rural District in the West Riding of Yorkshire from 1894 to 1974, then in Boothferry district of Humberside until 1996.

It is situated about 2 miles (3.2 km) south-east of Howden and 19 miles (31 km) south-east from the county town of York. Skelton lies within the constituency of Haltemprice and Howden, an area placed as the 10th most affluent in the country in a Barclays Private Clients survey. In 1931 the parish had a population of 258.

The Skelton Viaduct, also known as the Hook bridge or Goole railway swing bridge, is a large viaducted hogback plate girder bridge with swing span over the River Ouse, Yorkshire near Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. The bridge was designed by Thomas Elliot Harrison for the Hull and Doncaster Branch of the North Eastern Railway and opened in 1869. In the latter part of the 20th century, the bridge became known for the frequent incidents involving ship collisions with the superstructure. As of 2022, it is still in use.
