Victorian Intercolonial Exhibition

The Wheeler Centre, originally Centre of Books, Writing and Ideas, is a literary and publishing centre founded as part of Melbourne's bid to be a Unesco Creative City of Literature, which designation it earned in 2008. It is named after its patrons, Tony and Maureen Wheeler, founders of the Lonely Planet travel guides. Opened in 2010, the centre is housed in the southern wing of the State Library of Victoria. As well as programming literary events, debates and awards, the centre hosts literary organisations including Express Media, the Melbourne Writers Festival, the Melbourne City of Literature Office, Australian Poetry, the Emerging Writers' Festival, the Small Press Network and Writers Victoria.

The State Library Victoria is the main library of the Australian state of Victoria. Located in Melbourne, it was established in 1854 as the Melbourne Public Library, making it Australia's oldest public library and one of the first free libraries in the world. It is also Australia's busiest library and, as of 2018, the fourth most-visited library in the world.The library's vast collection includes over four million items, including books, photographs, manuscripts, maps and newspapers, with a special focus on material from Victoria, including the diaries of the Melbourne's founders, John Batman and John Pascoe Fawkner, the folios of Captain James Cook, and the armour of Ned Kelly. The library is located in the northern centre of the central business district, on the block bounded by Swanston, La Trobe, Russell, and Little Lonsdale streets.

Abode318 is a residential skyscraper developed by PDG Corporation and Schiavello and designed by Elenberg Fraser and Disegno Australia in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. As of November 2016, the skyscraper is the 22nd–tallest building in Melbourne. Initially proposed in 2007, and named the Barton Tower, the skyscraper anticipated the current trend of "skinny skyscrapers" proposed in Melbourne. Indeed, the most unusual feature of the building is its "curving exterior" which is illuminated by 10 millimetres of rose coloured glass, which incorporates thermal properties that insulate the skyscraper. Abode318 comprises 450 apartments across 57 levels, and reaches a height of 187.3 metres (614.5 feet). The project received approval by then-Planning Minister Matthew Guy in 2011, with construction commencing later that year. At a cost of AUD$136 million, the building topped-out in late 2014, and was completed by early 2015. At the time of its completion, Abode318 was the 10th–tallest building in Melbourne; additionally, it became the first building since the 2006 completion of the Eureka Tower to be listed in the "ten-tallest buildings of Melbourne".

Queen Victoria Village, generally known as QV Melbourne or just QV, is a precinct in the central business district of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Covering the city block bounded by Lonsdale, Little Lonsdale, Swanston, and Russell Streets, and located directly opposite the State Library of Victoria and Melbourne Central, QV comprises a large shopping centre, a central plaza, an underground food court, Melbourne central city's first full-size supermarket and apartment buildings. QV takes its name from the Queen Victoria Hospital, Melbourne which formerly occupied the site.

The Working Men's College was an Australian college of further education located in Melbourne, Victoria. It was founded in 1887 by a prominent Victorian parliamentarian and philanthropist, Francis Ormond. The college was the predecessor to the current-day Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT University). Today, the original building of the college is known as RMIT Building 1 (Francis Ormond Building).

RMIT University Library (previously known as 'Libraries of the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology') consists of six academic branch libraries in Australia and Vietnam. Its four Australian branches are located on the RMIT University campuses in Melbourne City, Bundoora and Brunswick; and its two Vietnamese branches are located at the RMIT University Vietnam campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

Dovers Building is a reinforced concrete building in Melbourne, Australia. Built in 1908 by architect and engineer, Hugh Ralston Crawford, Dovers Building is located at 7 Drewery Lane, Melbourne. Crawford held the Australian patent rights for the Turner Mushroom flat slab system which was patented by C.A.P. Turner in the U.S.A. in 1905. This system was so called due to the peculiar formation of rods around the column head and the rapidity with which they could be erected. Between 1906 and 1909, at least eighteen other buildings of this type were built in the U.S.A.Dovers Building was erected as a warehouse and factory for the firm Sniders and Abrahams, Manufacturing Tobacconists in 1908 and was the second example of Turner's flat plate system of reinforced concrete construction to be built and was begun in the same year as Turners Lindeke Warner Building in Minnesota. It was originally a five storey structure, with an extra two storeys were added in 1938 also designed by Crawford. Built in the Edwardian period in the Chicagoesque style, the facades are decorated with foliated capitals and arches at the top floor level of the original building, but otherwise the walls are not decorated.This was the 1st flat slab building in Australia using the system and Crawford subsequently designed a large number of other buildings using the Turner system. Dovers Building is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.

RMIT Building 8 is an educational building, part of the RMIT University's City campus in Melbourne, Victoria. It sits at 383 Swanston Street, on the northern edge of the Hoddle Grid that defines Melbourne's city centre. Completed in 1993, by Edmond and Corrigan Pty Ltd in association with The Demaine Partnership, Building 8 is an example of architecture in the Postmodern style.

The Ringwood Library: Edmond and Corrigan is situated in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, within the Ringwood Plaza complex. completed in 1995 The building stands alone as an icon in the area of Ringwood and sets itself apart from the surrounding plaza and is noticeably differentiates from eastland shopping centre, which sits to the north of the site.

The Former Melbourne Magistrates' Court was the original home of Melbourne's City Court and District Court, as well as their emergency court. The French Romanesque building is located on the corner of La Trobe and Russell streets in the Melbourne city centre.

RMIT University, officially the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), is a public research university in Melbourne, Australia. Founded in 1887 by Francis Ormond, RMIT began as a night school offering classes in art, science, and technology, in response to the industrial revolution in Australia. It was a private college for more than a hundred years before merging with the Phillip Institute of Technology to become a public university in 1992. It has an enrolment of around 95,000 higher and vocational education students, making it the largest dual-sector education institution in Australia. With an annual revenue of around A$1.5 billion, it is also one of the wealthiest universities in Australia. It is rated a five star university by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and is ranked 15th in the World for art and design subjects in the QS World University Rankings, making it the top art and design university in Australia and Oceania. The main campus of RMIT is situated on the northern edge of the historic Hoddle Grid in the city centre of Melbourne. It has two satellite campuses in the city's northern suburbs of Brunswick and Bundoora and a training site situated on the RAAF Williams base in the western suburb of Point Cook. It also has a training site at Bendigo Airport in the Victorian city of Bendigo and a research site in Hamilton near the Grampians National Park. In Asia, it has two branch campuses in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi and a training centre in Da Nang in Vietnam as well as teaching partnerships in Mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore and Sri Lanka. In Europe, it has a research and collaboration centre in the Spanish city of Barcelona.

Melbourne Central is a large shopping centre, office, and public transport hub in the city of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The complex includes the Melbourne Central Shopping Centre, which was refurbished in 2005 by architects Ashton Raggatt McDougall; the Melbourne Central railway station (a part of the City Loop underground railway and formerly called Museum); and the 211-metre (692 ft) high office tower with its distinctive black colour and two communications masts. The centre features a gross leasable area of 55,100 square metres (593,000 sq ft). It is owned by GPT Group.
