Greatham railway station

The Teesside Refinery was an oil refinery and chemical plant situated just south of Seaton Carew on the River Tees in County Durham. In 2000, it was bought by Petroplus from ICI and Phillips Petroleum Company. Refining was suspended in 2009, although the site continues to operate as a terminal and storage facility.

Greatham is a village and civil parish in the borough of Hartlepool, County Durham, England. The population of the civil parish (including Newton Bewley) was taken in the 2011 census was 2,132. Greatham village is located approximately three miles south of Hartlepool town centre.

The Hospital of God, Greatham, County Durham, was founded in 1273 by the then Bishop of Durham, Robert de Stichell. It was originally a foundation to aid poor people. By the sixteenth century the foundation was used more as a "house of entertainment for gentlemen" and it was not well used for helping the poor. After 1610 there were reforms, and its original mission was resumed. It now runs day centres and home visiting services for patients, many of whom have dementia, in Greatham, Horden, Seaham and Wheatley Hill.The Redcar Sword Dancers have performed outside the hospital every year since 1967.

Cowpen Marsh (grid reference NZ500529) is a 116.8 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in County Durham, England, notified in 1966. SSSIs are designated by Natural England, formally English Nature, which uses the 1974–1996 county system. This means there is no grouping of SSSIs by Stockton-on-Tees unitary authority, or County Durham which is the relevant ceremonial county . As such Cowpen Marsh is one of 18 SSSIs in the Cleveland area of search.

Graythorp was a village and now a trading estate within the borough of Hartlepool and the ceremonial county of County Durham, England. It is located on the A178 Tees Road about 1 mile south of Hartlepool. The village was constructed by shipbuilder William Gray and Company to house workers at his Graythorp shipyard on Greatham Creek/Seaton Channel on the River Tees. Graythorp today is an industrial estate historically associated with a shipyard basin currently operated by Able UK as a marine recycling facility.

Stranton is an area of south Hartlepool in the borough of Hartlepool, County Durham, England. It is a former village and parish. The ancient parish boundaries were the North Sea to the east, Greatham Creek, an arm of the Tees, to the south, the parish of Greatham to the south-west, and the Greatham Beck to the west. In 1831, the parish contained the townships of Stranton, Seaton Carew, and Brierton.The area’s name was last used as an electoral ward name in the 2011 UK Census, with a population of 6,105. It covered most of the town centre with parts of Stranton in the south west of the ward. For the 2015 general election Burn Valley, Headland & Harbour and Victoria replaced the majority of the former ward area.
