Herschel Park

Upton is a suburb of Slough, in the Slough district, in the ceremonial county of Berkshire, England. Until the local government reforms of 1974 it was in Buckinghamshire. It was one of the villages that developed into the town.

Saint Laurence's Church is one of three Church of England parish churches in the benefice of Upton-cum-Chalvey, and is the oldest building in the borough of Slough, in Berkshire, England. In the 12th century the wooden parish church of Upton was replaced with a flint building. The tower and outside walls of the Norman building form part of the present church. Several of the walls are built of puddingstone. Two other Norman features survive: the ancient baptismal font and a piscina. In the English Reformation many of the ancient decorations were mutilated. A 13th-century Italian allegorical image of the Trinity – God Father, Son and Holy Spirit – survived and was reassembled in the restoration of the church.

St Mary's Parish Church is a red brick gothic style Church of England parish church in the parish of Upton cum Chalvey in the borough of Slough and the county of Berkshire in England. Built between 1876–8 to a design by John Oldrid Scott and partly funded through a personal donation by Queen Victoria, it was again enlarged in 1911–1913, and is protected as a grade II* listed building. The grounds contain the grade II listed war memorial by the west door of the church, inscribed with over 300 names of the dead from Slough in the First and Second World Wars. The walls and gates of the church yard are also protected grade II listed features. The church is located centrally in the parish, serving the Slough town centre. The church is linked to two schools in the area, Saint Mary's Church of England Primary School, in Upton, and Slough and Eton Church of England Secondary School, in Chalvey. The building regularly plays host to musical concerts, often including accompaniment on the organ

Observatory House was the name of an 18th century observatory established by William and Caroline Herschel in Windsor Street, Slough. After the original building had been demolished, the name was re-applied to a modern office block on the same site which now serves as the headquarters of Slough Borough Council.

William Herschel's 40-foot telescope, also known as the Great Forty-Foot telescope, was a reflecting telescope constructed between 1785 and 1789 at Observatory House in Slough, England. It used a 48-inch (120 cm) diameter primary mirror with a 40-foot-long (12 m) focal length (hence its name "Forty-Foot"). It was the largest telescope in the world for 50 years. It may have been used to discover Enceladus and Mimas, the 6th and 7th moons of Saturn. It was dismantled in 1840 by Herschel's son John Herschel due to safety concerns; today the original mirror and a 10-foot (3.0 m) section of the tube remain.

Chalvey Road was a cricket ground in Slough, Buckinghamshire. Slough Cricket Club moved to the ground in 1899, with the first recorded match on the ground in 1904, when Buckinghamshire played Berkshire in the Minor Counties Championship. From 1904 to 1998 the ground hosted 57 Minor Counties Championship matches, the last of which saw Buckinghamshire play Norfolk. Buckinghamshire also played a single MCCA Knockout Trophy match held at the ground, against Oxfordshire in 1992. In 1999, Berkshire played an MCCA Knockout Trophy match against the Sussex Cricket Board.The ground has also held List-A matches. The first List-A match held on the ground was between a combined Minor Counties and Middlesex in the 1981 Benson and Hedges Cup. From 1981 to 1986, the ground hosted 5 List-A matches, the last of which saw a combined Minor Counties side play Northamptonshire in the 1986 Benson and Hedges Cup.In local domestic cricket, the ground was the home venue of Slough Cricket Club from 1899 to 1999, when after 100 years of playing at the ground, the club moved to a new purpose built ground at Upton Court Road, which was held both Buckinghamshire and Berkshire home matches. The ground has since been developed with housing.

Long Close School is a coeducational Independent school located in Upton, Slough in Berkshire, England. The school is owned and operated by the Cognita Group, and is the largest independent school in Slough. The school was founded in 1940. It offers a co-educational Nursery, Preparatory, and Senior day school for children two and over. In 2004 the school was bought by Cognita, the largest independent schools business in the UK.

The Old Etonians Association Football Club is an English association football club whose players are alumni of Eton College, in Eton, Berkshire. Having been a member of The Football Association and played several editions of the FA Cup, Old Etonians currently play in the Premier Division, the highest level of the Arthurian League.

Slough was, from 1863 to 1974, a local government district in southern Buckinghamshire, England. It became an urban district in 1894 and was incorporated as a municipal borough in 1938. It was abolished in 1974 and now forms part of the borough of Slough in Berkshire.

Time 106.6 was a local commercial radio station for Slough, Maidenhead and Windsor. Time played a variety of music from the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and today, with a strapline of 'all time favourites'. The station was available on FM on 106.6 MHz and online.

St Ethelbert's Church or Our Lady Immaculate and St Ethelbert's Church is a Roman Catholic parish church in Slough, Berkshire, England. It was built from 1908 to 1910 and designed by Benedict Williamson. It is located on the corner of Wellington Street and William Street in the centre of the town. It is in the Gothic Revival style and is a Grade II listed building.
