The Natomas East Main Drainage Canal, also known as Steelhead Creek, flows into the American River in Sacramento County, California.

The American River (Spanish: Río de los Americanos) is a 30-mile (50 km)-long river in California that runs from the Sierra Nevada mountain range to its confluence with the Sacramento River in downtown Sacramento. Via the Sacramento River, it is part of the San Francisco Bay watershed. This river is fed by the melting snowpack of the Sierra Nevada and its many headwaters and tributaries, including the North Fork American River, the Middle Fork American River, and the South Fork American River. The American River is known for the discovery of gold at Sutter's Mill in Coloma in 1848 that started the California Gold Rush and contributed to the initial large-scale settlement of California by European immigrants. Today, the river still has high quality water, and it is the main source of drinking water for Sacramento. This river is dammed extensively for irrigation, flood control, and hydroelectric power. The American River watershed supports Mediterranean, temperate, and montane ecosystems, and it is the home of a diverse array of fish and wildlife.

The Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail (or American River Bike Trail) is a paved multi-use pathway that runs between the confluence of the Sacramento River with the American River, just north of downtown Sacramento, California, and Beal's Point at Folsom Lake, north of Folsom. The trail is 32 miles (51 km) long, and is used as a major recreational destination, as well as a commuter artery for cyclists. The trail is considered one of the longest paved purpose-built bike trails in the country. The trail is maintained by the County of Sacramento and is painted with mile markers placed at every half-mile increment.

Nisipowinan Village, also spelled Nisenan Village was a major Nisenan Native American tribe Village that is a historical site in Sacramento, California. The Nisipowinan Village in Sacramento is a California Historical Landmark No. 900 listed on June 16, 1976. The Sacramento Nisipowinan Village was located on the north banks of the American River just east of the now Interstate 5 Freeway in the Sacramento Discovery Park. The Nisenan tribe was part of the Maidu tribe. I the 1840s Nisenan tribe traded and worked in peace with people in and around Sutter's Fort, founded by John Sutter in 1839, was located on the south bank of the American River.

Area codes 916 and 279 are California telephone area codes that serve Sacramento, the state capital, and most of its suburbs. Area code 916 was one of the first three original area codes established in California in October 1947. It originally covered most of Northern California, but area code splits have reduced its coverage to the greater Sacramento area. Area code 279 began service in March 2018 to relieve an exhausted supply of telephone numbers in the 916 area code.

PG&E Powerhouse, also known as Sacramento River Station B is a historic building located in Sacramento, California and constructed in 1912 by notable architect Willis Polk. It was used by PG&E as an auxiliary power plant and transformer substation where voltage was transformed for distribution. In 1924, PG&E upgraded the facility, making it the largest steam turbine power plant in the region. They sold the building in 1957 and the inside of the building was stripped of all metal elements and equipment, leaving a large open area. In November 2021, the SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity (MOSAC) opened on the site as part of a $40.8 million project.

Leroy Greene Academy (usually abbreviated "LGA") is an American public high school and middle school in Sacramento, California serving grades 6–12 in the Natomas Unified School District.

The I Street Bridge is a historic metal truss swing bridge which crosses the Sacramento River to link the capital city of Sacramento, California, with Yolo County to the west. Built in 1911, this historic bridge has a vertical clearance of 14 feet 8 inches (4.47 m) and was originally part of State Route 16. It also carries two walkways; one on either side of the roadway. The lower level of the bridge provides rail access to Sacramento from points south and west; the upper level provides highway access. It was built to replace an 1867 timber Howe truss swing span bridge, which also carried both railroad and road traffic.

The California State Teachers' Retirement System (CalSTRS) provides retirement, disability and survivor benefits for California's 965,000 prekindergarten through community college educators and their families. 7th & Richards / Township 9 is a side platformed Sacramento RT Light Rail station in Sacramento, California, United States. The station was opened on June 15, 2012, and is operated by the Sacramento Regional Transit District. It is currently the northern terminus of the Green Line and is the only RT light rail station exclusively served by the Green Line, which will ultimately provide service to the Sacramento International Airport upon future build-out. Greyhound Lines's Sacramento bus depot is near the station, at 420 Richards Boulevard. It is located along Richards Boulevard at North 7th Street in the River District, north of Downtown Sacramento. Its opening coincided with the completion of a 1.1-mile (1.8 km) extension of track at a cost of $44 million as the first new station constructed as part of the Green Line. Its opening is envisioned to serve as a catalyst for the redevelopment of the River District by city officials.

Sacramento History Museum is the only museum devoted to Sacramento, California and California Gold Rush history. It is located at 101 I Street in Old Sacramento. Just west of the museum is the Sacramento River and both the Tower Bridge and the I Street Bridge are visible from the museum. The building itself is a replica of Sacramento's 1854 City Hall and Waterworks building, showcased in natural brick with two stories of 14 foot double doors across the front. Exhibit themes include the Gold Rush and mining, Nisenan & Maidu Indian Nations, fur trapping, agriculture, and cultural heritage.
