Oraison (French pronunciation: [ɔʁɛzɔ̃] ; Occitan: Aureson) is a commune in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department in southeastern France.

La Brillanne (French pronunciation: [la bʁijan]; Occitan: La Brilhana) is a commune in the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence in southeastern France.

The Dominici affair was the criminal investigation into the murder of three Britons in France. During the night of 4/5 August 1952, Sir Jack Drummond, a 61-year-old scientist; his 44-year-old wife Anne (née Wilbraham); and their 10-year-old daughter Elizabeth were murdered next to their car, a green Hillman, with registration NNK 686 which was parked in a lay-by near La Grand'Terre, the farm belonging to the Dominici family, located near the village of Lurs in the département of Basses-Alpes (now Alpes-de-Haute-Provence). Gaston Dominici was convicted of the three murders in 1957 and sentenced to death. In 1957, President René Coty commuted the sentence to life imprisonment, and on 14 July 1960, President Charles de Gaulle ordered Dominici's release on humanitarian grounds due to his poor health. Dominici was never pardoned or given a re-trial and died on 4 April 1965. The case was discussed by the literary theorist Roland Barthes in his book Mythologies. Barthes argues that Dominici was denied a fair trial because the rural dialect in which he spoke was incomprehensible to the judges, resulting in a verdict based on preconceptions and speculation; such an unfair judgment, in which the accused is condemned due to the incompatibility of their own language with that of their accuser, is identified by Barthes as an omnipresent risk.The trial was the basis of the 1973 film The Dominici Affair directed by Claude Bernard-Aubert and starring Jean Gabin and Gérard Depardieu.

The Chapel of Notre Dame des Anges (French: Chapelle Notre-Dame-des-Anges) is a Roman Catholic church located near Lurs, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France. The chapel is a miraculous shrine and place of pilgrimage. It is in the Gothic and Romanesque architectural traditions.

The Asse (French pronunciation: [as]; Occitan: Assa) is a 76.3-kilometre (47.4 mi) long river in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence département, southeastern France. Its source is several small streams which converge at Tartonne, 12 kilometres (7 mi) east of Digne-les-Bains. It flows generally southwest. It is a left tributary of the Durance into which it flows between Valensole and Oraison, 9 kilometres (6 mi) northeast of Manosque. Its drainage basin is 657 km2 (254 sq mi).The Asse is called "Asse de Clumanc" between its source and its confluence with the "Asse de Blieux" and the "Asse de Moriez" at Barrême. The valleys of the Asse and its tributaries are protected as a Natura 2000 site.Part of the Asse valley is used by the route Napoléon.

Villeneuve (French pronunciation: [vilnœv] ; Provençal: Vilanòva) is a commune in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence department in southeastern France. Villeneuve is located in Durance valley. This village, like many other villages in Provence, is built on the top of a hill to keep it protected from invaders. Villeneuve in French mean "New town" but was constructed in Middle Ages, originally further in the forest on the top of a high cliff. Only the little chapel remains on the rock to show where the original village was located.
