Wakerley Spinney

St Luke's Church is a church in Tixover, Rutland. It is a Grade II* listed building. The church is close to the River Welland, now about 3/4 mile from the village of Tixover.

St John the Baptist's Church is a redundant Anglican church in the village of Wakerley, Northamptonshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It stands in an elevated position overlooking the Welland Valley.

Fineshade Priory was a priory of Augustinian Canons Regular in Northamptonshire, England. The remains of the site are now in the parish of Duddington-with-Fineshade, about 5 miles (8.0 km) north-east of Corby along the A43 road. It was founded before 1208 by Richard Engayne (Engain), Lord of Blatherwycke, on the site of a small castle and dissolved in 1536. The buildings were granted to Lord Russell 1541/2. Sir Robert Kirkham bought it in 1545 and converted the west range into a country residence, which was demolished along with the remains of the priory in 1749. A house was subsequently built on the site but demolished in 1956. The stable block remains, converted to a residence. Fineshade Wood is part of Rockingham Forest. The civil parish has merged with Duddington.

Wakerley and Barrowden railway station is a former railway station in Wakerley, Northamptonshire, England which also served the nearby village of Barrowden, Rutland. It was owned by the London and North Western Railway but from 1883 to 1916 was also served by trains of the Great Northern Railway. It opened for passengers on 1 November 1879 along with Kingscliffe railway station and Nassington railway station, on a new section of line from Wansford Line Junction at Seaton to Yarwell Junction at Wansford. Wakerley and Barrowden station closed for goods traffic on 28 December 1964 and to passengers on 6 June 1966, when the passenger service from Rugby (Midland) to Peterborough (East) was withdrawn. At the same time the section of line from Rugby (Midland) to Kingscliffe was closed completely.

Wakerley is a linear village and civil parish in the county of Northamptonshire, England. Forming part of North Northamptonshire, Wakerley is close to, and south of, the River Welland that forms the boundary with Rutland; its nearest neighbour, Barrowden, is in that county and accessible by a footbridge. Wakerley is in the area of Rockingham Forest and Wakerley Great Wood is one of the forest's largest remnants. The population of the village is included in the civil parish of Duddington with Fineshade. The village's name origin is dubious. 'Osier wood/clearing' or perhaps, 'watcher wood/clearing'. St John the Baptist's church, Grade I listed, has been in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust since the early 1970s. Recent evidence points to Wakerley's industrial history as an iron-smelting centre. Brick-built calcining kilns were used for reducing iron ore before transport to the Corby Steelworks.

Tixover is a small village and civil parish in Rutland. The population of the civil parish at the 2001 census was 174, falling to 163 at the 2011 census.The village's name means 'ridge with young goats'. The second element derives from either the Old English 'ofer' and 'ora', which both mean ridge.The parish is on the River Welland which is the county boundary with Northamptonshire. Most of the houses in the parish are east of the A47 road. St Luke's Church, near the River Welland, now stands about 3/4 mile from the village. The church is a Grade II* listed building.Tixover Grange, west of the A47, was home to the residential school named after Wilfred Pickles from 1955 to the 1980s. Tixover House is now a care home, run by Barchester Healthcare.Tixover Quarry is a popular off-road driving centre, which is used by Land Rover Owner Magazine for vehicle tests and photo shoots.

Holy Trinity Church is a redundant Anglican church in the village of Blatherwycke, Northamptonshire, England. It is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. It stands in the grounds of the demolished Blatherwycke Hall.

Barrowden is a village in Rutland in the East Midlands of England. The village's name means 'burial-mound hill'. There are a number of barrows in the area. The population of the civil parish was 506 at the 2011 census. There is a church, a village hall, a doctor's surgery and pharmacy, a community shop, a mobile library, a recreational field with cricket club and a pub, The Exeter Arms. St Peter's Church, Barrowden is a Grade II* listed building. In an ancient tradition, rushes or hay are laid on the floors of nave and porch for St Peter's Day (29 June). Marianne Mason (1807–1884), a farmer's daughter who taught at the Baptist Sunday school in Barrowden, married Thomas Cook here on 2 March 1833. The Rutland Round and Jurassic Way long-distance paths pass through the village. The village was served by Wakerley and Barrowden railway station from 1873 to 1966. The station was across the River Welland in the neighbouring parish of Wakerley, Northamptonshire. Barrowden is part of Ketton ward on Rutland County Council.

Laxton is a village in North Northamptonshire, seven miles (11 km) east of Corby and approximately one mile (1.6 km) west of the A43. At the time of the 2001 census, the parish's population was 160 people, increasing to 234 at the 2011 census.

St Peter's Church is a Church of England parish church in Barrowden, Rutland. It is a Grade II* listed building.

Fineshade Wood is a large wooded area in the county of Northamptonshire in the English East Midlands region. The wood is managed by the Forestry England and is part of the former royal hunting forest of Rockingham Forest. The wood is located east of the A43 road between Stamford and Corby. It is a former deer park. Part of it is publicly owned, and part leased by Forestry England. It has a visitor centre at Top Lodge; and also houses Forestry England offices. Fineshade was in East Northamptonshire district and is roughly 25 miles (40 km) from Rushden, the largest town of the district, and about 15 miles (24 km) from Thrapston, the administrative centre of the district. It is known for its population of red kites, and a Red Kite Centre was opened there in 2001. It also has adders and other reptiles as well as scarce breeding birds including nightingale, nightjar, woodcock, grasshopper warbler, tree pipit, marsh and willow tits. Dormice have been recorded together with great crested and palmate newts. The site has a caravan and motorhome park which is open from Easter to October.

Luffenham Heath Golf Course is a 75.1-hectare (186-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of South Luffenham in Rutland. It is the course of Luffenham Heath Golf Club. The course is located on several soil types, including calcareous grassland on Jurassic Lower Lincolnshire Limestone, together with acid heath, scrub and broad-leaved woodland. The dominant grasses are tor-grass and upright brome, and the site is notable for its butterflies its diverse insect species.
