Bosworth Hall (Market Bosworth)

Market Bosworth Country Park is to the east of Market Bosworth town. The 35 hectares (86 acres) landscaped Country Park was formerly part of Bosworth Hall deer parkland. The park features a lake, a planted arboretum with many different exotic species, a wildflower meadow and a community woodland. The park has been award the Green Flag Award.

Market Bosworth ( BOZ-wərth) is a market town and civil parish in Leicestershire, England. At the 2001 Census, it had a population of 1,906, increasing to 2,097 at the 2011 census. It is most famously near to the site of the decisive final battle of the Wars of the Roses.In 1974, Market Bosworth Rural District merged with Hinckley Rural District to form the district of Hinckley and Bosworth.

Dixie Grammar School is a private school in Market Bosworth, Leicestershire. The earliest records of the School's existence date from 1320, but the school was re-founded in 1601 under the will of an Elizabethan merchant and Lord Mayor of London, Sir Wolstan Dixie, by his great-nephew Sir Wolstan Dixie of Appleby Magna, who came to live in Market Bosworth in 1608.The most distinguished of the School's former pupils is Thomas Hooker, founder of Hartford, Connecticut, known as the Father of American Democracy. Samuel Johnson, moralist, poet and author of the famous dictionary, taught at the school in the mid-eighteenth century. The main building of today's school was built in 1828 and faces the market square of Market Bosworth. A distinguished headmaster of the school was the Rev. Arthur Benoni Evans from 1829 till his death in 1854. The school ceased to exist as a "grammar school" in 1969, with the establishment of Market Bosworth High School (11–13 years) and Bosworth Community College, Desford (14–18 years), as much larger comprehensive schools found favour. The Leicestershire Independent Educational Trust was formed in 1983, and four years later the school was re-opened as a selective, independent, day school for boys and girls of all backgrounds between the ages of 10 and 18. The Market Bosworth School (formerly Market Bosworth High School) is a secondary school with academy status located in the small town of Market Bosworth in Leicestershire, England. The school was rated 'Outstanding' in its 2018 OFSTED inspection. Market Bosworth was established in 1969, as a comprehensive school for both sexes of any ability between the ages of 11 and 14. The school is next door to Dixie Grammar School. Students start after leaving primary schools in villages such as Barlestone, Newbold Verdon and Desford. In October 2012 a question posed by students at Market Bosworth High School was the first to be used in the world's first live broadcast via Facebook of a science lesson at the Royal Albert Hall, in London. The broadcast was streamed live via the internet to classrooms across the world over 15 minutes to an online audience of thousands, including pupils from the Leicestershire school. The question posed by pupils was "can sound warm objects up?" It was selected by organisers as their favourite and was answered by Dallas Campbell and Dr Yan Wong, presenters of BBC1 show Bang Goes The Theory. In March 2013 TMBS won the National Science and Engineering Week Award for Best Secondary School Event of the year. Their four-day 'TMBS Year 5 Science Fairs' were host to 250 Year 5 pupils from local primary schools and opened by former Leicester City Football Club captain Steve Walsh.

The rural district of Market Bosworth existed from 1894 to 1974 in Leicestershire, England. It was named after Market Bosworth, and was created under the Local Government Act 1894, based on the Market Bosworth rural sanitary district, and that part of the Atherstone rural sanitary district which was in Leicestershire. The parish of Higham on the Hill was added in 1936, from the Hinckley Rural District, which had been abolished under a County Review Order. In 1974 most of the district merged with Hinckley to form the new Hinckley and Bosworth district, apart from Ibstock, which went to North West Leicestershire.

Market Bosworth railway station is a former stop on the London and North Western Railway and the Midland Railway, who jointly operated the line between Moira West Junction and Nuneaton as the Ashby and Nuneaton Joint Railway. The station was designed by the Midland Railway company architect John Holloway Sanders.The station is to the west of the market town of Market Bosworth. Nowadays it is part of the heritage Battlefield Line Railway, some 3 miles (5 km) to the south of the railway's base at Shackerstone. Original station buildings survive on platform 1, used by the private Station Garage. The track in platform one is a siding, used for the storage of wagons and diesel shunters in various states of disrepair. Platform 2 is on the running line and is the only one in use. The signal box also survives, as do several semaphore signals, though this signalling is not in commission thus the station is an unsignalled halt. The waiting room was originally at Chester Road on the Birmingham Cross-City Line; when this line was electrified between 1991 and 1993, the building was dismantled and reconstructed at Market Bosworth. Volunteers have been slowly restoring the station. The station encountered severe vandalism at Easter 2008 with one building, the Permanent Way hut, completely destroyed by arson. Any windows that were originally intact in the signalbox were smashed. Nonetheless, the railway continues to restore the station. In May 2009, a passenger train hauled by LNER Thompson Class B1 No. 61306 halted at the station for the first time in at least ten years to allow passengers to see the progress at the station. On the weekend of 19–20 March 2011, completion of a foot crossing at the south end of the station enabled it to be opened to the public for the first time. There is a car park in the former goods yard but only very basic facilities for passengers. There is a long-term aspiration to restore the passing loop at the station to allow two train operation over the line.

Osbaston Hall is a privately owned 18th-century country house at Osbaston, Leicestershire. It is the home of the de Lisle family and a Grade II* listed building. The oldest fabric of the house dates from the late 16th or early 17th century. The manor was acquired by the Wrightson family in the mid-17th century and passed to the Mundy family when Philipa Wrightson, heiress to the estate, married Francis Mundy of Markeaton Hall. The old manor house was rebuilt in about 1720 by Wrightson Mundy (High Sheriff of Derbyshire and Member of Parliament for Leicester in 1737). The south-facing seven-bayed entrance front has two storeys and attics. The central three bays are recessed and carry a Tuscan porch. The garden or west front has ten bays divided by substantial pilasters. The lake or west front is in three distinct blocks, each of three bays. The house was the home of Francis Noel Clarke Mundy, by whom the estate was sold in 1766. Thereafter, there were several owners. In 1827 it was acquired by Thomas Cope (High Sheriff of Leicestershire in 1856). A later Thomas Cope was in 1918 created the first of the Cope baronets of Osbaston. The house was sold to Jonathan Guinness in 1966 and later to the de Lisles.

Bufton is a small hamlet in England between the Leicestershire villages of Carlton and Barton in the Beans. It has around 10–15 residents, mainly on farms.

Cadeby (pronounced KAYD-bee) is a village and civil parish in the Hinckley and Bosworth district of Leicestershire, England, about 6 miles north of Hinckley, close to Newbold Verdon and Market Bosworth. According to the 2001 census it had a population of 177, reducing to 169 at the 2011 census.The village's name means 'farm/settlement of Kati' or 'farm/settlement belonging to the boys'.

Carlton is a small rural parish located East of the river Sence in Leicestershire, England, around 2.2 miles North of Market Bosworth. According to the 2011 Census, Carlton has a population of 305 However, from 2014 it is estimated that there are around 330 people living there with a total of 283 registered electors. There are four roads in Carlton: Main Street (where most of the population is centred) Barton Road (at the east end of the village leading south to Market Bosworth and north to Barton-in-the-Beans) Congerstone Lane (at the west end of the village) Shackerstone Walk (formerly Occupation Road).

Osbaston is a small village and civil parish in the Hinckley and Bosworth district of Leicestershire, England. At the time of the 2001 Census, the parish had a population of 266, which had fallen slightly to 255 at the 2011 census.

The Cadeby Light Railway was a 2 ft (610 mm) narrow-gauge railway in the garden of the rectory in Cadeby, Leicestershire. In the early 1960s the Reverend Teddy Boston became rector of All Saints' Church, Cadeby. Boston was a lifelong railway enthusiast and wanted to build a miniature railway in his new garden, but the cost proved prohibitive. Instead he searched for a full-sized narrow-gauge locomotive. In 1962, he purchased Pixie, a W.G. Bagnall 0-4-0ST from the Cranford quarry. The quarry owners donated a short length of track and two wagons and the Cadeby Light Railway was opened.Over the years, Boston built an extensive collection of ex-industrial narrow-gauge rolling stock, which ran on the extremely short line in his garden. He also maintained an extensive OO gauge model railway at Cadeby.Although Boston died in 1986, his widow, Audrey kept the railway open for nearly twenty years, holding regular open days. The railway finally closed in May 2005. The majority of the collection has been amalgamated with the Moseley Railway Trust at the Apedale Community Country Park. As of 2014, Pixie was undergoing restoration.
