Bozeat Meadow

The A509 is a short A-class road (around 30 miles (48 km) long) for north–south journeys in south central England, forming the route from Kettering in Northamptonshire to the A5 in Milton Keynes, via M1 J14. From north to south, the road begins at Wicksteed Park in the outskirts of Kettering. It then crosses the A14 (where it becomes a primary route) and goes through Isham and Great Harrowden. After this it goes on to form the Wellingborough western bypass before leaving Northamptonshire to cross into the City of Milton Keynes (and Buckinghamshire). From there, it crosses the A428 at a roundabout and cuts through the centre of Olney. South of Olney the road passes Emberton, meeting the A422 just north-east of Newport Pagnell, where the routes multiplex to form the Newport Pagnell eastern bypass. South of Newport Pagnell, the routes diverge at a roundabout with the A509 turning south and the A422 continuing westbound. Here the A509 is a single carriageway once more until it crosses the M1 at Junction 14, where it enters the Milton Keynes urban area. Continuing westwards from here, the road once more becomes a dual carriageway, running for a further 4 miles (6.4 km) past the edge of Central Milton Keynes (the central business district of the city), to link up finally with the A5. Through Milton Keynes, the road is additionally known as the grid road H5 Portway.

Easton Maudit is a small village and civil parish in rural Northamptonshire. It takes its name from the Maudit (or Mauduit) family who purchased the estate at what was then just Easton, in 1131. There was no residential landowner in the village until 1578 when the village was acquired by Sir Christopher Yelverton. It is about 8 miles (13 km) east of Northampton town centre. At the 2011 census the population remained less than 100 and is included in the civil parish of Bozeat. Thomas Percy was made the rector of the parish at the age of 24; he was a friend of Samuel Johnson, who was a frequent visitor to the Rectory.

Bozeat locally is a village and civil parish in the postal district of Wellingborough, North Northamptonshire, England, about 6 miles (10 km) south of Wellingborough on the A509 road, near Wollaston. At the time of the 2011 census, Bozeat's population (including Easton Maudit) was 2,052.

Strixton is a small village in eastern Northamptonshire that borders the main A509 road between Wellingborough and Milton Keynes. The population of the village remained less than 100 at the 2011 Census and is included in the civil Parish of Wollaston. The village's name means 'Strikr's farm/settlement'. This name might be indistinguishable from the 'Stric' recorded in the Domesday Book as holding land in the adjoining Bozeat and Wollaston parishes during the reign of Edward the Confessor.The village borders Grendon and Wollaston. The limited amenities include: The Church (St Rumwolds). A business centre - utilising converted farm buildings.

Grendon is a small village and civil parish in rural Northamptonshire, England, on the borders of Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Many houses are made of the local limestone and various older thatched houses survive. The name of the village means "green hill" and today the village remains centred on the hill. As with Earls Barton, the village was owned by Judith, the niece of William the Conqueror. At the time of the 2011 census, the parish population was 544; the village is a popular place to live with commuters to London or Milton Keynes. It is the site of the 19th-century local uprising called the 'Battle of Grendon'. The village is in two parts, separated by a brook. The smaller part of the village is often shown on maps as Lower End whilst the higher (southern) part of the village is at the top of the (steep) hill.

Wollaston is a village and civil parish in North Northamptonshire, England, about 3 miles (5 km) south of the market town of Wellingborough. The 2011 census recorded the population of the parish, including Strixton, as 3,491.[1]Wollaston is from 160 to 260 feet (50 to 80 m) above sea level on hills east of the Nene valley. The soil is clay over subsoil and is on the old Wellingborough to London road. Summer Leys Local Nature reserve is nearby. The Domesday Book of 1086 records the toponym as Wilavestone. In a document written in 1190 it is spelt Wullaueston. The name comes from Old English and is believed to mean the farmstead or village of a man named Wulfaf.[2]

Dungee Corner Meadow is a 5.1-hectare (13-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest east of Bozeat in Northamptonshire.This well drained hay meadow on boulder clay is traditionally managed, and no artificial fertilisers or herbicides have been used, so it has a diverse flora. More than twenty grass species have been recorded, including sweet vernal, Yorkshire fog, sheep's fescue, quaking grass and crested dog's-tail. There is also a population of the locally rare green-winged orchid.The site is private land with no public access.

Wollaston School is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form located in Wollaston in the English county of Northamptonshire.The Wollaston School catchment area includes the villages of Bozeat, Brafield-on-the-Green, Castle Ashby, Chadstone, Cogenhoe, Denton, Easton Maudit, Great Houghton, Grendon, Irchester, Little Houghton, Strixton, Whiston, Wollaston and Yardley Hastings. However pupils from Wellingborough and surrounding villages are admitted when places are available.Previously a community school administered by Northamptonshire County Council, in April 2019 Wollaston School converted to academy status and is now sponsored by the Nene Valley Partnership. Wollaston School offers GCSEs, BTECs and other vocational courses as programmes of study for pupils, while sixth form students can choose to study from range of A Levels and further BTECs.

Warrington is a hamlet and civil parish in the unitary authority area of the City of Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, England, near Olney and on either side of the A509. It formed part of the parish of Olney until 1866. At the 2011 Census the population of the hamlet was included in the civil parish of Lavendon. The hamlet name is an Old English language word that means 'Wærheard's estate'. It was recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086 as Wardintone. The hamlet is confused occasionally with Warrington, the town in Cheshire. It is situated 10 miles (16 km) north-east of Central Milton Keynes and 60 miles (97 km) north-west of London. It is the most northerly civil parish in the Milton Keynes UA, of Buckinghamshire and of the South East England Region.

Summer Leys is a local nature reserve at Wollaston in the Upper Nene Valley, in Northamptonshire, England. It is owned by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire.

Lavendon Castle stood to the north of the village of Lavendon, Buckinghamshire, England. A motte or ringwork and bailey were mentioned in a pipe roll of 1192–3. It was probably built by a member of the Bidun family, and later belonged to the Pevers. The motte was destroyed in 1944 when much 12th-century pottery was found. A farmhouse and garden terracing built in the 17th century have effectively destroyed the former mound and today only earthworks remain.

Lavendon Abbey was a Premonstratensian abbey near Lavendon in Buckinghamshire, England.The abbey was established by John de Bidun between 1154 and 1158 and dedicated to John the Baptist. Bidun's donations to the abbey, together with those of Sibyl de Aungerville, Ranulf Earl of Chester, Ralf de Bray and Richard de Beauchamp, were confirmed by Henry III in 1227. At this point the abbey's possessions included the churches of Lavendon and Lathbury in Buckinghamshire, Wootton in Northamptonshire, Shelton in Bedfordshire and Stow Bedon, Kirby Bedon and Thompson in Norfolk. However, a succession of unsuccessful legal actions caused the abbey to lose control of all but Lavendon and Lathbury, though they later acquired the churches of Brayfield, Ashton and Shotteswell.The abbey was suppressed in 1536, as part of the first phase of the Dissolution of the Monasteries. At this point the inhabitants comprised 11 canons (9 priests and 2 novices) and 20 servants; its revenues were estimated at £79 13s 8d (equivalent to £49,629 in 2021). The last Abbot, William Gales, was granted a pension of £12 (equivalent to £7,474 in 2021).Nothing is visible above ground of the original buildings of the abbey, but the surrounding earthworks, field system and the remains of two fish ponds are a scheduled monument.
