Lünen Power Station was a coal-fired power station in Germany. It was located in Lünen, in the district Unna. It had an output capacity of 500 megawatts. The first power station in Lünen was commissioned in 1938. The power station produced traction current since 1984 also. The power station also produced long-distance heating since late 2003. Annual coal consumption amounted to 960,000 tons. The operator of the power station was Evonik Industries. The power station's chimney was 250 metres (820 ft) high. It was decommissioned in 2018 and, in 2019, the dismantlement process started. In 2021, the cooling tower, the chimney, the boiler house were demolished.

Eving is a Stadtteil (quarter) in the eponymous Stadtbezirk ("city borough") in the north of the city of Dortmund, Germany. It was incorporated into Dortmund in 1914. With a population of about 20,000 Eving is one of the most populated parts of Dortmund. The population of the Stadtbezirk, which also includes Brechten, Holthausen, Lindenhorst and Kemminghausen, is about 36,000. Eving's unemployment rate is high and the average income is low compared to the city's average, which makes it one of Dortmund's socially disadvantaged areas. The Stadtteil is famous for its history of coal mining and the football club TuS Eving-Lindenhorst, for whom Michael Zorc, Stefan Klos and Lars Ricken have played during their childhood and youth. The Zeche Minister Stein was the last active coal mine in Dortmund. It was in use until 1987.

St. Stephanus is a church and a former parish in Bork, now part of Selm, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It was completed in 1724 in Baroque style, and expanded in the 1880s based on a design by Wilhelm Rincklake. The church is a listed monument. The parish was merged with St. Ludger, Selm in 1976.

The Selm-Bork Synagogue is one of two remaining rural synagogues in Westphalia, and a witness of pre-holocaust Jewish life in Westphalia. The exact year of construction is unknown, the first written reference was found in a directory of houses, written in 1818.Until Kristallnacht of 1938, the synagogue was used for prayer. During the pogrom the building was looted and partially destroyed. The Jewish community was forced to sell the building. A coal dealer acquired the building and used it as a barn. In 1991 the synagogue was restored and opened for the public in 1994, the government declared the synagogue a historic monument.Today it is used by Etz Ami, a liberal Jewish community.

Lünen is a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located north of Dortmund, on both banks of the River Lippe. It is the largest town of the Unna district and part of the Ruhr Area. In 2009 a biogas plant was built to provide electric power to the city. Lünen is the first city in the world to receive electricity via public utility companies that is generated on the base of animal waste. The plant produces up to 6.6 MW, supplying 26,000 homes with heat and electricity.

Waltrop (German pronunciation: [ˈvaltʁɔp] is a town in the district of Recklinghausen, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is situated on the Datteln-Hamm Canal, approximately 15 km east of Recklinghausen and 15 km north-west of Dortmund.

Dortmunder Actien Brauerei is a German brewery in the city of Dortmund, founded in 1868 by the businessmen Laurenz Fischer and Heinrich and Friedrich Mauritz together with master brewer Heinrich Herberz. Originally, it was called Herberz & Co Brewery (Bierbrauerei Herberz & Co.).

Münsterstraße is an underground station of the Dortmund Stadtbahn. It is situated below the crossroads of Münsterstraße and Haydnstraße in Dortmund, Germany. The line U41 serves the station.

Construction on Dortmund's port which terminates the Dortmund-Ems Canal connecting Dortmund to the North Sea started in 1895. It was opened 1899 by Kaiser Wilhelm. At the beginning of the 20th century it was mainly used for the import and export of wheat, coal and ore. The port was expanded in the 1920s and 1930s by adding new docks as well as on the administrative infrastructure (Dortmunder Hafenamt). Today Dortmund Port is the biggest European canal port with 10 docks and a pier length of 11 km. Gaining its greatest importance after WW II, in 1972 6.2 million tonnes of good were shipped over the port. But even the completion of the container port in 1987 could not stop the gradual decline of the port resulting from the extinction of the coal and steel industries in Dortmund. 2.96 million tons of freight were shipped over the Dortmund Port in 2007, an increase of 7.1 percent compared to the previous year. In the process of restructuring the industry in the Ruhrgebiet and in Dortmund, local politicians are looking for new ways to use the old port. Planned projects are the construction of a marina and high-quality areas for recreational use and residential redevelopment on the water. In 2005 a first location for recreational use was established.

Nordmarkt is a borough in the Stadtbezirk ("City District") Innenstadt-Nord (Northern city center) in Dortmund, Germany. It is named after a large square in the northern city center. Being a working class quarter, this part of the city was sometimes scene of violent clashes between Nazis and their left-wing opponents during the final stage of the Weimar Republic. On October 16, 1932 two people died and 14 people were hurt during the Schlacht am Nordmarkt ("Battle at the Nordmarkt"). From 1933 to 1945 the square bore the name of Horst Wessel.

Dortmund-Huckarde Nord (north) station is a passenger station in the Dortmund district of Huckarde in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is classified by Deutsche Bahn as a category 7 station.The station is located on the Duisburg-Ruhrort–Dortmund railway (Cologne-Minden Emscher Valley Railway) and has one platform. The Emscher Valley Railway through the station was initially opened mainly for the transport of coal to the port of Duisburg at the beginning of 1878. Passenger trains first stopped at Dortmund-Huckarde Nord (originally called Huckarde) in 1879 or 1892. In 1908, the station was equipped with an impressive building. The building was, with Dortmund-Kurl station, one of the last two station buildings built in Dortmund immediately before the First World War.Dortmund-Huckarde Nord station is still a stop on the RB 43 Regionalbahn services (Emschertalbahn). There is a restaurant in the station building. The train station is a registered monument on the list of monuments of Dortmund and part of the Industrial Heritage Trail.
