Winchester Road, Oxford

Canterbury Road is a road in North Oxford, England. It runs between Woodstock Road to the west and Banbury Road to the east. Winchester Road leads south from halfway along Canterbury Road, linking with Bevington Road that runs parallel to the south. Also to the south are North Parade and Church Walk. To the north is St Hugh's College, one of the former women's colleges of the University of Oxford (now mixed), fronting onto St Margaret's Road to the north and also stretching between Woodstock Road and Banbury Road. There are some modern ornamental iron gates opposite the junction with Winchester Road, giving access to the college grounds. The Eastern Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity and the Annunciation, built in 1973, is at 1 Canterbury Road.The area was formerly part of the estate of St John's College, Oxford, and the road is named after the city of Canterbury in honour of the former Archbishops of Canterbury who were also Presidents of the College (William Laud and William Juxon). The road contains large expensive brick-built Gothic-style detached residences. They were designed by Frederick Codd in the 1870s and leased between 1873 and 1884. These houses have been described as "Codd at his best" by Pevsner.

St Antony's College is a constituent college of the University of Oxford in England. Founded in 1950 as the result of the gift of French merchant Sir Antonin Besse of Aden, St Antony's specialises in international relations, economics, politics, and area studies relative to Europe, Russia, former Soviet states, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, Japan, China, and South and South East Asia.The college is located in North Oxford, with Woodstock Road to the west, Bevington Road to the south and Winchester Road to the east. St Antony's had a financial endowment of £55.1m as of 2021. Formerly a men's college, it has been coeducational since 1962.

The Oxford Centre for Mission Studies (OCMS) is in the former SS Philip and James Parish Church on Woodstock Road, Oxford, England, opposite Leckford Road. It was established in 1983 by Rev. Vinay Samuel.The centre exists to provide education for church leaders from the non-Western world. It was founded by mission theologians from Africa, Asia and Latin America. OCMS offers taught Masters courses and PhD/MPhil research degrees. Its degrees are validated by Middlesex University. It is associated with the University of Oxford through the Bodleian Libraries. Many Oxford faculty members also provide supervision for PhD/MPhil research degrees. OCMS is a charity.

St Hugh's College is one of the constituent colleges of the University of Oxford. It is located on a 14.5-acre (5.9-hectare) site on St Margaret's Road, to the north of the city centre. It was founded in 1886 by Elizabeth Wordsworth as a women's college, and accepted its first male students in its centenary year in 1986. It enjoys a reputation as one of the most attractive colleges because of its extensive gardens.In its 125th anniversary year, the college became a registered charity under the name "The Principal and Fellows of St Hugh's College in the University of Oxford". As of July 2018, the college's financial endowment was £37.6 million.

North Parade, or more formally North Parade Avenue, is a short shopping street in north Oxford, England. It runs between Winchester Road opposite Church Walk to the west and Banbury Road (with Norham Road slightly north opposite) to the east. It is the only shopping street in North Oxford between the city centre to the south and Summertown to the north.

Bevington Road is a residential road in central North Oxford, England.The road runs between Woodstock Road (opposite Observatory Street) to the west and Banbury Road to the east. Winchester Road leads north from halfway along Bevington Road. The road was previously known as Horse and Jockey Road. A public house opposite the eastern end of the road on Woodstock Road on the corner with St Bernard's Road, called the Horse and Jockey, was a reminder of this name. In the 1850s there was a plan to run a railway line just to the north of the road, but this never materialised. The houses are in the traditional North Oxford brick-built Victorian Gothic style, dating from 1865 to 1875. Plots on the south side of the road were sold in August 1865 by St John's College, which own much of the land in the area. Architects of the houses include Frederick Codd and William Wilkinson.To the south is St Anne's College, one of the former women's colleges of the University of Oxford, fronting onto Woodstock Road and backing onto Banbury Road. All of the properties fronting onto the south side of Bevington Road are property of St Anne's College, and most are used for undergraduate accommodation.To the north is St Antony's College, a graduate college of the University, between Woodstock Road and Winchester Road. The Animal Behaviour Research Group of Oxford University, begun in 1949 on the arrival in Oxford of Niko Tinbergen, was located at 13 Bevington Road from 1961 to 1971. Prominent members of the group included Richard Dawkins and Desmond Morris. Dawkins conducted programming experiments on an early PDP-8 mini-computer here.The road is one-way to traffic from Banbury Road to Woodstock Road.

St Anne's College is a constituent college of the University of Oxford in England. It was founded in 1879 and gained full college status in 1959. Originally a women's college, it has admitted men since 1979. It has some 450 undergraduate and 200 graduate students and retains an original aim of allowing women of any financial background to study at Oxford. It still has a student base with a higher than average proportion of female students. The college stands between Woodstock and Banbury roads, next to the University Parks. In April 2017, Helen King, a retired Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner, took over as Principal from Tim Gardam. Former members include Danny Alexander, Edwina Currie, Ruth Deech, Helen Fielding, William MacAskill, Amanda Pritchard, Simon Rattle, Tina Brown, Mr Hudson and Victor Ubogu.

Park Town is a small residential area in central North Oxford, a suburb of Oxford, England. It was one of the earliest planned suburban developments in the area and most of the houses are Grade II listed.

66 Banbury Road is a detached Victorian villa in North Oxford built in 1869 by Frederick Codd. The villa is one of the largest structures in the suburb and is particularly distinctive due to its prominent site on the corner of Banbury and Norham Roads and its tall 6-story Italianate tower, which is a local landmark.Originally named 'St Catherine's', the house, which sits in a one-acre plot, was first leased to Mrs Catherine Fry, in 1874. Mrs Fry occupied the house from its construction to 1894. Early 20th century residents included Dr and Mrs A.A. Prankerd of Manchester College.In 1930 Wolsey Hall, Oxford acquired No.66 and operated their home tutoring business from the site. This marked the end of the building's residential use and its permanent transition to institutional purposes. As at 2019, No.66 is home to the Oxford English Centre and the University of Oxford Institute of Population Ageing.In 2008, No.66 was designated a Grade II listed building.

Belsyre Court is a listed early 20th-century block of flats in Oxford, England.The building is located on the south side at the east end of St Bernard's Road, the west side of Woodstock Road, and the north side at the east end of Observatory Street in North Oxford. There is a small row of shops in a colonnade with a parking area on the Woodstock Road side. The site, part of the St John's College North Oxford estate, was first considered for a theatre. In 1932, a mixed-development scheme of shops, offices, and flats, was selected. An initial design by J. C. Leeds was rejected. The final block was designed by Ernest R. Barrow and built in 1936. Belsyre Court was the first large block of flats in Oxford. It was built of brick in a Jacobethan style. An Inland Revenue office was located here from 1936 until the early 1990s. The building was Grade II listed in 2008.

Kellogg College is a graduate-only constituent college of the University of Oxford in England. Founded in 1990 as Rewley House, Kellogg is the university's 36th college and the largest by number of students both full and part-time. Named for the Kellogg Foundation, as benefactor, the college hosts research centres including the Institute of Population Ageing and the Centre for Creative Writing. It is closely identified with lifelong learning at Oxford. Kellogg is lodged in a group of formal Victorian era buildings in residential Norham Manor. As with most of the university's graduate colleges, the college has an egalitarian spirit which is reflected by a lack of formal separation between fellows and students. The college has no high table and, uniquely among Oxford's colleges, its grace is in Welsh (in commemoration of its official founding on St. David's Day). It is also unique in having its own tartan.The president of the college is Jonathan Michie who is Professor of Innovation & Knowledge Exchange. Michie succeeded the founder of the college, Geoffrey Thomas, as president.

Wycliffe Hall is a Church of England theological college and a permanent private hall of the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom. It is named after the Bible translator and reformer John Wycliffe, who was master of Balliol College, Oxford in the 14th century. Founded in 1877, Wycliffe Hall provides theological training to women and men for ordained and lay ministries in the Church of England as well as other Anglican and non-Anglican churches. There are also a number of independent and undergraduate students studying theology, education and philosophy. The hall is rooted in and has a history of Evangelical Anglicanism and includes strong influences of Charismatic, Conservative and Open Evangelical traditions. The hall is the third-oldest Anglican theological college and, as of April 2020, claimed to have trained more serving Church of England bishops than any other such institution (21 of c. 116).
