WJOB (1230 AM) is a news/talk formatted radio station in Hammond, Indiana. The present tower of the station is 406 feet (124 Meters) tall and the station is a 24-hour operation transmitting with a power output of 1,000 watts. 1230 AM is a Class C local channel within the lower 48 states.

Morse Dell Plain House and Garden, also known as Woodmar, is a historic home located at 7109 Knickerbocker Parkway in Hammond, Lake County, Indiana. The house was designed by noted Chicago architect Howard Van Doren Shaw and built in 1923. It is a large two-story, Tudor Revival style brick dwelling with a 1+1⁄2-story service wing. The landscape was designed by Jens Jensen in 1926.: 5 It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1998.

Woodmar is a neighborhood in southeast Hammond, Indiana, approximately between Columbia and Kennedy Avenues. It is bounded to the east by Hessville, to the west by South Hammond, to the north by industrial land along United States Route 20, and to the south by the town of Highland. The neighborhood's boundaries correspond to Hammond's Planning District V. Dominated by large single-family homes, Woodmar was largely built in the 1920s, with the goal of allowing the Calumet Region's wealthier residents to get "out of the smoke zone and into the ozone." In these early years, Woodmar was considered more exclusive than most Hammond neighborhoods.Woodmar was formerly home to the Woodmar Mall. It is also home to the Hammond campus of Purdue University Northwest, formerly an independent institution known as Purdue University Calumet. Historic residences in the neighborhood include the Morse Dell Plain House and Garden.

It is part of the Purdue University system and offers more than 70 undergraduate and graduate degree programs to approximately 9,400 students with more than 64,000 alumni.

Donald E. Gavit Jr./Sr. School (Gavit) was a public secondary school located in Hammond, Indiana. Part of the School City of Hammond district, it graduated its final class in the spring of 2021.

Pullman–Standard Historic District is a national historic district located at Hammond, Lake County, Indiana. The district encompasses 121 contributing buildings and 2 contributing sites in a predominantly residential section of Hammond. It developed between about 1916 and 1918, with some later additions, and includes notable example of Colonial Revival and Bungalow / American Craftsman styles of residential architecture. Most of the homes were originally constructed by the United States Housing Corporation as Industrial Housing Project No. 457. There are three main housing types: Single-family dwellings, duplexes, and quadplexes.It was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

Hessville is a neighborhood of Hammond, Indiana. Located in the southeast corner of Hammond, it adjoins the Hammond neighborhood of Woodmar to the west, the East Chicago neighborhood of Calumet to the north, the Gary neighborhoods of Westside and Black Oak to the east, and the town of Highland to the south. Notable natural areas in Hessville include the Carlson Oxbow Park, Gibson Woods, and the Seidner Dune and Swale preserve operated by the Shirley Heinze Land Trust. Much of the neighborhood is built on a former dune and swale landscape.Notable people from Hessville include Jean Shepherd, whose movie A Christmas Story is set in a fictionalized version of mid-20th-century Hessville.The town was founded by local merchants Joseph and Elizabeth Hess in 1852. Hessville was incorporated in 1918, but following a legal battle its incorporation was invalidated. The town was annexed by Hammond in 1923.

Roxana, sometimes spelled Roxanna, is a neighborhood in southwestern East Chicago, Indiana, south of the Grand Calumet River and north of Michigan Street. It is the only East Chicago neighborhood located south of the Grand Calumet. As of 2013, it was home to approximately 1032 people, of whom 6.5% were Hispanic and 8% were African American.Roxana is adjoined on the north by East Chicago's Southside neighborhood, to the east by the industrial area of Hammond north of Hessville, on the south by Hammond's Woodmar neighborhood and the Gibson Yard, and on the west by Central Hammond. The neighborhood is traversed by the Indiana Toll Road and by the South Shore Line passenger railroad, which stops in Roxana at the East Chicago station. Roxana takes its name from Roxana Petroleum, an oil company later absorbed by Shell Oil, which built a major refinery adjacent to the neighborhood in 1927. The refinery proper was located in Hammond (just south of United States Route 20), while the associated tank farm was located in Roxana. A pipeline carried sulfuric acid from the Grasselli Chemical plant to the refinery. The Shell and Roxana oil companies are remembered today in the names of the neighborhood's Roxana Drive and Shell Street. Roxana is home to the Roxana Marsh, an important natural area and migrant bird habitat along the Grand Calumet River. Birds found there range from moorhens to Hudsonian godwits. The restoration of the Roxana Marsh, which was completed in 2013, involved the removal of six hundred thousand cubic yards of sediment contaminated with PCBs, PAHs, heavy metals, and other contaminants.

Hammond ( HAM-ənd) is a city in Lake County, Indiana, United States. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area, and the only city in Indiana to border Chicago. First settled in the mid-19th century, it is one of the oldest cities of northern Lake County. As of the 2020 United States census, it is also the largest in population: the 2020 population was 77,879, replacing Gary as the most populous city in Lake County. From north to south, Hammond runs from Lake Michigan down to the Little Calumet River; from east to west along its southern border, it runs from the Illinois state line to Cline Avenue. The city is traversed by numerous railroads and expressways, including the South Shore Line, Borman Expressway, and Indiana Toll Road. Notable local landmarks include the parkland around Wolf Lake and the Horseshoe Hammond riverboat casino. Part of the Rust Belt, Hammond has been industrial almost from its inception, but is also home to a Purdue University campus and numerous historic districts that showcase the residential and commercial architecture of the early 20th century.

Hammond High School was a public secondary school located in the Northwestern Indiana city of Hammond. Part of the School City of Hammond district, it opened in 1884 and graduated its final class in the spring of 2021.

The U.S. Smelting and Lead Refinery Inc. site, commonly known as USS Lead, is a superfund site located in East Chicago, which is located in northwest Indiana. The site includes part of the former USS Lead facility along with nearby commercial, municipal, and residential areas. Originally the site was used as a lead ore refinery with the surrounding businesses at the time performing similar operations. Through a history of redlining and racial discrimination brought on by the 1920 Urban Renewal Campaign, it is seen that East Chicago’s minority community is subject to the consequences of the contamination and has led to claims of environmental racism. The primary contaminants of concern for this area are lead and arsenic, both of which when in the human bloodstream, cause numerous health effects. The site is currently undergoing testing and remediation. This Superfund site is broken down into two Operable Units. The first, OU1, has been divided into three zones, these being the public housing complex and residential properties. OU2 includes soil at the former USS Lead facility, as well as groundwater in and around the site.
