Sope Creek Ruins

The 1974 Tournament Players Championship was a golf tournament in Georgia on the PGA Tour, held August 29 to September 2 at Atlanta Country Club in Marietta, a suburb northwest of Atlanta. This was the first Tournament Players Championship, and Jack Nicklaus won the first of his three TPC titles, two strokes ahead of runner-up J. C. Snead, the 54-hole leader.The final round on Sunday was interrupted several times by weather and twelve players completed their rounds on Monday morning, Labor Day.The year's concluding major, the PGA Championship, was played three weeks earlier in North Carolina and won by Lee Trevino, a stroke ahead of Nicklaus. Trevino opened with 69 at the TPC but finished twelve shots back, in eighteenth place.

Johnson Ferry was an important 19th-century ferry linking what is now Atlanta with much of north Georgia on the other side of the Chattahoochee River. The name Johnson is a corrupted version of the owner's name, which was really Johnston; therefore the ferry was originally called the Johnston ferry (or Johnston's ferry). A historical plaque on the present Johnson Ferry Road documents that ownership. William Marion Johnston, a Georgia native born in 1817, owned the farm at that location during the Civil War and raised thirteen children by two different wives. When he died in 1879, his grave in Marietta was robbed by a janitor from the Atlanta Medical College in order to sell the cadaver to the college.

Northwest Unitarian Universalist Congregation (Northwest) was organized in 1969. The organization of Northwest was the result of action taken by the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Atlanta (UUCA) to establish a new congregation in the northwest suburbs of Atlanta. Sunday services and religious education programs were initially held in rented spaces. In 1976 the congregation moved to its newly constructed facility on a five-acre wooded lot in Sandy Springs, Georgia. In 1987, an additional building called the Chalice House was built to support the congregation's religious education program. In 2000, Northwest was designated as a Welcoming Congregation ensuring that the LGBTQ community could find a spiritual home at Northwest. In 2011, Northwest was recognized as an Accredited Green Sanctuary. Northwest is a Fair Share Congregation of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA).

Powers Park is an unincorporated community located east-southeast of Marietta in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. Powers Park consists of the 'POWERS FERRY 01' and 'TERRELL MILL 01' voting precincts. Clockwise, the area is defined by Lower Roswell Road, Old Paper Mill Road, Terrell Mill Road, Delk Road, Powers Ferry Road (both sides), Interstate 75, and South Marietta Parkway. Powers Park features an eclectic mix of mostly small neighborhoods with single family residential homes built between 1950 and 1980. Powers Creek and Powers Ferry Road run through the heart of the community. Notable attractions include Powers Ferry Elementary School, Sedalia Park Elementary School and Terrell Mill Park. Hence, the Powers Park name honors all five of these. The area is popular with young homeowners, attracted by the community's convenient proximity to Interstate 75, Interstate 285, the bustling Cumberland / Galleria business district, and The Battery entertainment district, home of Truist Park and the Atlanta Braves.
