Johnson Ferry was an important 19th-century ferry linking what is now Atlanta with much of north Georgia on the other side of the Chattahoochee River. The name Johnson is a corrupted version of the owner's name, which was really Johnston; therefore the ferry was originally called the Johnston ferry (or Johnston's ferry). A historical plaque on the present Johnson Ferry Road documents that ownership. William Marion Johnston, a Georgia native born in 1817, owned the farm at that location during the Civil War and raised thirteen children by two different wives. When he died in 1879, his grave in Marietta was robbed by a janitor from the Atlanta Medical College in order to sell the cadaver to the college.

Chattahoochee Plantation is an affluent unincorporated community near East Cobb, Georgia, in Cobb County, Georgia, United States.

Bull Sluice Lake is created by Morgan Falls Dam, a small hydroelectric dam located along the Chattahoochee River at the northern end of Sandy Springs, Georgia, and crossing the river westwards into eastern Cobb County in north metro Atlanta. Originally constructed in 1904 by Georgia Power to provide electricity for Atlanta's streetcars, it now provides enough power for about 4,400 homes. It was named for then recently deceased Georgia Power president S. Morgan Smith's mother whose maiden name was Morgan. At the time it was by far the largest hydroelectric plant in the state. In 1924 it was rebuilt as a 60 cycle plant with 15,000 kilowatts (up from the original 10,500 kW). In 1957 it was raised to regulate the flow from the larger Buford Dam, 36 miles (58 km) upstream, in order to give Atlanta water during the hours it was needed most. It is 896 feet (273 m) long, and 56 feet (17 m) tall. The dam's license from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) was issued in May 2008, and expires in February 2039 which authorizes a capacity of 16,800 kW.The construction of the dam changed the river upstream from a narrow river with rapids into a wetland. The wetland serves as a habitat for migrating birds, waterfowl, songbirds, beavers, muskrats, and numerous species of reptiles and amphibians.

The 1974 Tournament Players Championship was a golf tournament in Georgia on the PGA Tour, held August 29 to September 2 at Atlanta Country Club in Marietta, a suburb northwest of Atlanta. This was the first Tournament Players Championship, and Jack Nicklaus won the first of his three TPC titles, two strokes ahead of runner-up J. C. Snead, the 54-hole leader.The final round on Sunday was interrupted several times by weather and twelve players completed their rounds on Monday morning, Labor Day.The year's concluding major, the PGA Championship, was played three weeks earlier in North Carolina and won by Lee Trevino, a stroke ahead of Nicklaus. Trevino opened with 69 at the TPC but finished twelve shots back, in eighteenth place.

Atlanta Country Club is a private golf club in the southeastern United States, located in the Chattahoochee Plantation section of East Cobb, Georgia, a suburb northwest of Atlanta. The club was founded 59 years ago in 1964 and opened two years later.

Bull Sluice Lake is a small reservoir located along the Chattahoochee River in northern Georgia, in the northern suburbs of metro Atlanta. It is 673 acres (272 ha), and is impounded by the Morgan Falls Dam. Besides the hydroelectric power produced by the dam, the lake's primary use is recreation, including fishing and rowing. The term "Bull Sluice", so named by Cherokee people, originally was a shoal on the Chattahoochee River.

Sope Creek is an 11.6-mile-long (18.7 km) stream located in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. It is a significant tributary of the Chattahoochee River. It was known as Soap Creek during the 19th century. A section of Sope Creek runs through the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. The Sope Creek Ruins are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Sope Creek Ruins are located at the intersection of Paper Mill Road and Sope Creek in Cobb County, Georgia and are old industrial ruins. These ruins are the remnants of a larger manufacturing complex which drew on the waterpower that the creek produced. During the period 1850 to 1940, a succession of enterprises, from a (fully integrated) paper mill, twine plant, flour mill and hydroelectric power plant occupied an area of about one mile along the creek. The paper mill at Sope Creek was run by Marietta Paper Mills and incorporated on December 19, 1859, possibly by Andrew Schofield Edmondston and Saxon A. Anderson. Facilities at the paper mill included a mill, oil room, office, mill sluice (raceway), storeroom, dam, machine shop, pulp-grinding mill, and two shelters.The site was added to the National Register of Historic Places (National Register of Historic Places listings in Cobb County, Georgia) on April 27, 1973, with its address listed as restricted.

George Walton Comprehensive High School, also known as Walton High School, is a public high school located in Marietta, Georgia, United States. It is in eastern Cobb County and is a charter school in the Cobb County School District. It is a School of Excellence and the number one public school in the state. It is the largest high school in the East Cobb area. For many years Walton has been among the top high schools in Georgia in SAT scores. In 2006, almost 800 Walton students took over 1,800 Advanced Placement exams, making it the school with the greatest number of test-takers in Georgia. Walton was also one of six featured "Outstanding American High Schools" out of 96 total by U.S. News & World Report in 1999 because of its high parental involvement and overall high level of achievement. In 2011, Walton was ranked 67 by Newsweek based on new factors: graduation rate (25%), college matriculation rate (25%), AP tests taken per graduate (25%), average SAT/ACT scores (10%), average AP/IB/AICE scores (10%), and AP courses offered (5%).

The Epstein School is an independent Jewish day school located in Sandy Springs, Georgia, United States. It enrolls children from 18 months through eighth grade. The Head of School is Dr. David Abusch-Magder. The school has a summer camp.

Willeo Creek is a 6.7-mile-long (10.8 km) stream in the U.S. state of Georgia, and is located in the north-northwestern part of metro Atlanta. It is a significant tributary of the Chattahoochee River, into which it flows at Bull Sluice Lake, just upstream from Morgan Falls Dam and downstream from the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Together, the two streams form nearly all of the county line between Fulton to the east and Cobb to the west. Willeo Creek was named after Captain Willeyoe, a Cherokee chieftain. The stream was entirely in Cobb County through early 1932, until that county ceded the town of Roswell to Fulton effective May 9. Prior to January 1 of that year, Roswell's neighbors were in the former county of Milton, and this cession of everything east of the creek made the new section, now known as north Fulton, more contiguous. Only a tiny section near its headwater is still entirely in Cobb, the county line at this point running due north to become the Cherokee/Fulton line until meeting the Little River. From this point just south of a ridge that includes nearby Sweat Mountain, the creek flows south-southeast, and through annexation now also forms most of the western city limit of Roswell. There is one USGS stream gauge (WLOG1) on Willeo Creek, located on the Georgia 120 bridge at 34°00′10″N 84°23′40″W. This is called "near Roswell" or "2SW Roswell", being about 2 miles (3 km) southwest of the center of town, where it has a drainage basin of 16.1 square miles (42 km2). Like Noonday Creek, National Weather Service flood warnings are not normally issued for Willeo Creek as they are for Big Creek or Sope Creek. The worst known flooding was the historic rainfall in September 2009. The long and narrow Gilhams Lake is on the upper portion of the mainline of the creek. There are numerous small and unnamed tributaries, though several of their lakes are named. From north to south (based on where their outflows join the creek), these are Grande Loch, Cochrans Lake, Highland Lake, Mitchell Lake, Lake Charles, Maddox Lake, Clary Lakes, Spring Lake, Bishop Lake, Princeton Lakes, Willow Point Lake, and Lake Jackson. Most of these are on the west side in far east Cobb.

Dodgen Middle School is a middle school located in East Cobb, Georgia, United States, and is part of the Cobb County School District. As of 2019, the current principal is Patrcia Alford, and its assistant principals are Bradley Blackman and Andrew Lorentz. As of the 2018-19 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,246 students and 67 teachers, for a student–teacher ratio of 18.61.
