Canisbay Parish Church is a Church of Scotland church in Canisbay, Scotland, that dates back to the early 1600s and is the most northernly church on mainland Britain. It is a Category A listed building. It is surrounded by a large cemetery, which is split into two sections, the new and old. It features a square bell tower, nave and a porch. The porch was added in 1891, when the other extensions and work was completed to the church building. The church was rebuilt in the 17th century, and ancient remains were discovered after a wall collapsed in the cemetery. Jan De Groot, the man who founded John o' Groats, is buried in Canisbay cemetery; his tombstone sits in the church building and is a popular tourist attraction when the building is open for visitors every summer. The book Lest We Forget: The Parish of Canisbay (1996) is a "miscellany of memories written by parishioners and friends so that future generations can know what made Canisbay a very special place". Between 1959 and 2001 Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was a regular worshipper at the church during her periods of residence, usually in late summer each year, at the nearby Castle of Mey, which she owned.

Gills Bay, which is situated about 3 mi (4.8 km) west of John o' Groats with the community of Gills close by, has one of the longest stretches of low-lying rock coast on the northern shores of Caithness. Its main features are a small harbour and the pier used as the mainland terminal for Pentland Ferries. The harbour shelters some small local boats together with those used for working the sheep on the off lying island of Stroma. In the right sea conditions the area is sometimes used for surfing.

Canisbay is a rural hamlet located about one mile (1.5 kilometres) southwest of Huna and two and a half miles (four kilometres) southwest of John o' Groats in Caithness, Scottish Highlands, and is in the Scottish council area of Highland. It lies on the A836 coast road, which bypasses the hamlet to the north.It is home to Canisbay Primary School, a Village Hall, Medical Practice, and two Churches, one of which was the church used by Charles III. The Church is also the burial place of Jean De Groot, the ferryman after which John o' Groats is named. The Parish of Canisbay includes John o' Groats, Upper and Lower Gills, Huna and Freswick. Canisbay Juniors are the "feeder" team to John o' Groats FC with many of the key first team players having played for the side at one time. They play in the youth development leagues in Caithness where they enter teams at all age groups. It is also home to Canisbay Rifle club, who regularly compete in the Caithness Rifle Leagues. The Canisbay Show is the local agricultural and crafts show held mid-June each year in the park behind the village hall, with the JCB competition, the karate display and mainly the Beer Tent being the big attractions.

Galltair is a remote coastal, scattered crofting township and former fishing village, on the north coast of Caithness, Scottish Highlands, in the Scottish council area of Highland. The settlement overlooks Gills Bay and consists of Upper Gills to the south and the main township on the coast. The township is between the villages of Mey to the west along the A836 coast road, and the village of Canisbay to the east. A ferry terminal on Gills Bay has a service to Orkney.

East Mey is a scattered crofting village in northern Caithness, Scottish Highlands and is in the Scottish council area of Highland.

The Pentland Firth (Scottish Gaelic: An Caol Arcach, meaning the Orcadian Strait) is a strait which separates the Orkney Islands from Caithness in the north of Scotland. Despite the name, it is not a firth.

The Castle of Mey (also known for a time as Barrogill Castle) is located in Caithness, on the north coast of Scotland, about 6 miles (10 km) west of John o' Groats. In fine weather there are views from the castle north to the Orkney Islands.

Mey is a remote village, located on the north coast of Scotland in Caithness, Scottish Highlands and is in the Scottish council area of Highland.Mey lies 6 miles (10 kilometres) west of John o' Groats and 1⁄2 mi (800 m) southeast of the Loch of Mey. The Castle of Mey lies 1 mi (1.6 km) northeast overlooking Mey Bay. There is also a hotel run in the former coaching inn.

Nybster is a scattered rural and crofting township, situated in Caithness and is in the Scottish council area of Highland. It is located along the A9 road, 0.5 miles (0.80 km) south of Auckengill and 7 miles (11 km) south of John o' Groats. It is the location of the Nybster Broch, first excavated by Rev James Maxwell Joass (of Golspie in 1895 and again by Sir Francis Tress Barry in about 1900. A broch is an Iron Age building that is unique to Scotland. This one was probably built between about 200 BC and 200 AD and re-used during the Pictish period (AD 300 - 800). The Caithness Broch Centre nearby provides an opportunity to learn more about the communities that lived in the brochs, those who excavated them and the communities who are still involved with them today.

Harrow is a hamlet on the north coast of Caithness, Scotland. It lies just to the west of the Castle of Mey and northeast of the Loch of Mey. Harrow Harbour, also called Philips Harbour, was built in the 19th century by the Earl of Caithness for exporting the local flagstone slabs. The harbour was restored in 1978–79 by the Highland Council and is used today by a few crab and lobster fishermen. During the restoration works Alexander (Derry) Ross, who had spent several years at sea and was now working on the project, used his Stanley knife to carve images of fishing vessels in the concrete of the sea wall before it set. Originally brightly coloured these are now faded but are still visible. On completion of the works Jimmy Page carried out the official opening ceremony and a plaque commemorating this is mounted on the harbour wall.

Keiss Castle is a partially ruined castle in Scotland, which stands on sheer cliffs overlooking Sinclair's Bay less than one mile north of Keiss village centre, Caithness, Highland, Scotland. It is protected as a scheduled monument. The old castle was replaced by Keiss House around 1755. The castle was constructed as a Z-plan tower house with 4 floors plus an attic and a vaulted basement. It had a pair of corner towers at opposite angles of a square central block, the main tower being very narrow for its height with tall chimneystacks.

Keiss (Scottish Gaelic: Cèis) is a fishing village at the northern end of Sinclair's Bay on the east coast of Caithness county in Scotland's Highland Council area.
