Newberry Plaza is a 553-foot (169 m) full amenity luxury skyscraper located in the affluent Gold Coast neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. It was named after the Newberry Library that once operated at its location. The complex was completed in 1974 and has 57 floors above ground. Gordon and Levin designed the building, which is the 56th tallest in Chicago. When Newberry Plaza was completed it was the sixth-tallest all-residential skyscraper in the world and the first highrise in the city to have townhomes built on top of a building's pedestal, known as the Skyhomes. The property also contains commercial space under the condominium tower (1050 N State). Former famous businesses include the original location of Morton's The Steakhouse, the opulent restaurant Arnie's, exclusive nightclub Zorine's, both also owned by the Morton family, the Grotto, and Trader Vic's. In addition to its astonishing views of the city, it might be best known for its prominent location as the only residential high-rise building in a well known triangle of high end restaurants on the East and Oak Street on the South.

The William Waller House is a historic house located at 1012 N. Dearborn St. in the Near North Side neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The home was built in 1875–76, shortly after the Great Chicago Fire, during the development of Chicago's prosperous Gold Coast district. The house's Italianate design features a stone exterior, a double bay front, a bracketed and ornamented cornice, arched windows, and decorative keystones. Though Italianate rowhouses are still common in the Near North Side, freestanding Italianate homes are relatively rare, and the Waller House is one of the best-preserved examples of these homes.The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 21, 1980.

Mariano Park (also known as Mariano Plaza) is a small public park in Chicago at the intersection of Rush Street and State Street in Gold Coast. It has an official address of 1031 North State Street. The land was initially acquired by the city in 1848 but was not transferred to the Chicago Park District until 1959. Mariano Park was renamed for Louis Mariano, a reporter and editor for the Chicago Daily News, in 1970. Mariano was an editor for World Book Encyclopedia and an associate editor for Science Year, the World Book Science Annual, as well as the assistant managing editor of the World Book Yearbook from 1963 through 1970. His column, "North Looping with Lou Mariano" featured happenings and local celebrities from the vantage point of his office, a table at O'Connell's Sandwich Shop on the corner of Bellevue and Rush Streets. It has a structure designed by Birch Burdette Long, who was a Frank Lloyd Wright protege. The area was colloquially known as "Viagra Triangle" for the many older gentlemen taking young ladies on dates at bars and restaurants.

Mister Kelly’s was a nightclub on Rush Street in Chicago which existed from 1953 to 1975. From around 1956 until its demise, it was a springboard to fame for many entertainers, especially jazz singers and comedians. As reported in the Chicago Tribune, "It was a supernova in the local and national nightlife firmament." Mister Kelly’s was owned and operated by brothers Oscar and George Marienthal, whose Chicago empire included the London House, an upscale jazz supper club, and the theatrically oriented Happy Medium.

The Newberry Library is an independent research library, specializing in the humanities and located on Washington Square in Chicago, Illinois. It has been free and open to the public since 1887. Its collections encompass a variety of topics related to the history and cultural production of Western Europe and the Americas over the last six centuries. The Library is named to honor the founding bequest from the estate of philanthropist Walter Loomis Newberry. Core collection strengths support research in several subject areas, including maps, travel, and exploration; music from the Renaissance to the early twentieth century; early contact between Western colonizers and Indigenous peoples in the Western Hemisphere; the personal papers of twentieth-century American journalists; the history of printing; and genealogy and local history. Although the Newberry is a noncirculating library, it welcomes researchers into the reading rooms who are at least 14 years old or in the ninth grade, and have a research topic corresponding to the nature of the collections. Additional public services are offered through exhibitions, meet-the-author lectures, adult education seminars, and other programming.

The Burlingham Building is a historic building located at 104 W. Oak Street in the Near North Side neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. Dentist Luke Burlingham had the building constructed in 1883 to house his professional offices, with apartments on the upper floors. While the building was originally four stories tall, the apartments were successful enough that Burlingham added two more stories of apartments in 1897. Architect Alfred Smith designed the Victorian building; as it faces the corner of Oak and Clark Streets, the building is an example of the common Victorian corner buildings of the era. A cast iron turret on the corner and three matching cast iron bays project from the building; each features slate shingles and colored glass in the central windows. The rest of the building is built from red brick with sandstone trim, with a bracketed cast iron cornice along the roof.The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 14, 1985.

Washington Square, also known as Washington Square Park, is a park in Chicago, Illinois. A registered historic landmark that is better known by its nickname Bughouse Square (derived from the slang of bughouse referring to mental health facilities), it was the most celebrated open air free-speech center in the country as well as a popular Chicago tourist attraction. It is located across Walton Street from Newberry Library at 901 N. Clark Street in the Near North Side community area of Chicago, Illinois, USA. It is Chicago's oldest existing small park. It is one of four Chicago Park District parks named after persons surnamed Washington (the others being Washington Park, Harold Washington Park, and Dinah Washington Park). It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 20, 1991.

The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral is a Greek Orthodox cathedral located in Chicago, Illinois. It is the mother church of the Metropolis of Chicago. The current membership includes some 400 families.

Chicago Sinai Congregation (founded 1861) is a notable American Jewish congregation associated with Reform Judaism located in Chicago. The current synagogue was designed by architect Dirk Lohan; completed in 1996, it includes stained glass by British artist Brian Clarke.

RIA was an American restaurant in Chicago, Illinois. Located in the Waldorf Astoria Chicago, it originally opened in 2009, serving upscale French cuisine. RIA was popular with critics, earning many awards, including two Michelin stars. After losing executive chef Jason McLeod in 2011, RIA closed on July 27, 2012, after replacement Danny Grant also left his position at the restaurant.

The Isaac N. Maynard Rowhouses are a group of three connected rowhouses located at 119-123 W. Delaware Place in the Near North Side neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois. The rowhouses were built in 1880-81 by Isaac N. Maynard, one of many developers who helped rebuild the residential area around Washington Square after the Great Chicago Fire. The architecture firm of Treat and Foltz designed the homes in the Queen Anne style with additional details from the Eastlake and Victorian Gothic styles. The brick homes feature projecting bays of different shapes and stone patterns, which serve to both differentiate the three homes and give the overall building texture. Stone stringcourses and a cornice encircle and visually unify the building.The rowhouses were added to the National Register of Historic Places on February 25, 2004.
