The GC-1 (also Autopista del Sur, "Southern Highway") is a superhighway (or motorway) on the island of Gran Canaria. It links the capital Las Palmas in the north with Puerto de Mogán in the south. It is the fastest route from the north of the island to the south and vice versa with a top speed limit of 120 km/h (75 mph). It is approximately 75 km (47 miles) in length, and runs along the eastern and the southern coasts of this circular island and is also the second longest superhighway in the Canary Islands. The road provides easy access from the airport to the major cities and resorts. The resorts include Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés. The increase in tourism over the years has seen the GC1 route slowly being upgraded and widened to cope with extra traffic. GC-1 does not have motorway designation from Las Palmas to the airport, but has motorway designation from the airport to its southern end. Although the geographical name for the official name of the "Southern" highway is used, this is to differentiate it from the Autovía GC-2, and not because there are two motorways on the island.

Palacio de Congresos de Maspalomas is an indoor arena in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria, Canary Islands. It currently holds 5,000 spectators and hosts indoor sporting events such as tennis.

The Gran Canaria Lopesan Open was a professional golf tournament held 22–25 April 2021 at Meloneras Golf in Gran Canaria, Spain. The tournament was intended to be a one-off event and was played the week before the Tenerife Open, after that event was rescheduled following the postponement of the Portugal Masters, creating a two-week swing of events in the Canary Islands.On 5 April 2021, it was announced that Rafa Cabrera-Bello would host the event.Garrick Higgo won the event with an aggregate score of 255. This broke the European Tour aggregate scoring record, beating Andy Sullivan's record of 257 previously set in 2020.

Maspalomas (Spanish: [maspaˈlomas]) is a tourist resort in the south of the island of Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, stretching from Bahía Feliz in the east to Meloneras in the west, including the resort towns of San Agustín, Playa del Inglés and San Fernando. Maspalomas constitutes the southernmost part of the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, and of the island.

Meloneras is a tourist town on the south coast of the island of Gran Canaria, Canary Islands, part of the town of Maspalomas in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. It is mostly characterised by tourist hotels and other accommodations. Its most prominent landmark is the Faro de Maspalomas, next to Maspalomas Beach and the Maspalomas Dunes.Some of the luxury hotel complexes in Meloneras display are notable for their Canarian Spanish Colonial Revival style, partly derived from de la Torre's Hotel Santa Catalina (1890) in Las Palmas. The Costa Meloneras Hotel, opened in 2000, the Villa del Conde hotel thas was opened in 2005, incorporates a replica of the nearby town of Agüimes (the home town of Eustasio López González, founder of the Lopesan Hotel Group), including a distinctive replica of the large, domed Church of San Sebastián, which serves as the hotel reception.

San Fernando is the northern quarter of Maspalomas in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria, and as well the name of the parish for all of Maspalomas. The patron saint San Fernando (Saint Ferdinand) was a king of Castile and famous for successful re-Christianization (the Reconquista) after the Islamic conquest of Hispania in 710.

The Yumbo Centrum (Spanish: El Centro Comercial Yumbo) is a shopping complex on the island of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. It is situated in the tourist resort of Playa Del Ingles, between Avenida de Tirajana and Avenida de España. The centre was built 1982-85 by the tourism entrepreneur Estanislao Mañaricúa Belacortu and Alejandro del Castillo.

The Maspalomas Lighthouse (Spanish: Faro de Maspalomas) is an active 19th century lighthouse at the southern end of the Spanish island of Gran Canaria, in the Canary archipelago. It lies at one end of the Maspalomas beach, 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) south of the resort town centre, next to the area known as the Maspalomas Dunes.The lighthouse is a distinctive landmark in the resort, and is the tallest masonry lighthouse in the Canaries at 56 m (184 ft) being superseded only by the more modern 59 m (194 ft) concrete Morro Jable lighthouse on Fuerteventura.With a focal height of 60 m (197 ft) above the sea, its light can be seen for 19 nautical miles, and consists of a pattern of three flashes of white light, over a period of thirteen seconds.

The Maspalomas Dunes (Spanish: Dunas de Maspalomas) are sand dunes located on the south coast of the island of Gran Canaria, Province of Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands. A 404-hectare (1,000-acre) area of the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, they have been protected as a nature reserve since 1987. They were one of the contenders in the 12 Treasures of Spain competition. They were formed by sand from the now subdued marine shelf, when it was laid dry during the last ice age and the wind blew the sand towards the coast of the island.

Playa del Inglés (Spanish: [ˈplaʝa ðel iŋˈɡles]; English: Englishman's Beach) is a beach resort in Maspalomas on the south coast of the island of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. It is part of the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, and is a popular tourist attraction. The resident population was 7,515 in 2013.There is some dispute upon the origin of the resort's name. One explanation is that an English bohemian moved to the untouched area early in the 20th century. However, it has been stated that the Bohemian was actually French, but was mistaken as English by the locals.

Maspalomas Station is an INTA-operated, ESTRACK radio antenna ground station for communication with spacecraft located at the southern area of Gran Canaria island, on the INTA campus. It is situated on the Montaña Blanca hill and is visible from the coastal resort of Meloneras, close to Maspalomas. It was originally established in the 1960s to support NASA's nascent human spaceflight program.
