Manea, Cambridgeshire

Manea railway station is on the Ely–Peterborough line in the east of England and serves the village of Manea, Cambridgeshire. It is 80 miles 18 chains (129.1 km) measured from London Liverpool Street (via Clapton and Ely), and is situated between Ely and March stations.

Ouse Washes is a linear 2,513.6-hectare (6,211-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest stretching from near St Ives in Cambridgeshire to Downham Market in Norfolk. It is also a Ramsar internationally important wetland site, a Special Protection Area for birds, a Special Area of Conservation and a Nature Conservation Review site, Grade I. An area of 186 hectares (460 acres) between March and Ely is managed by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire and another area near Chatteris is managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust manages another area near Welney. The site lies between the Old Bedford River in the north-west and the New Bedford River in the south-east. The Washes are a flood storage area and are often under water in the winter. It is internationally significant for wintering and breeding wildfowl and waders, especially teal, pintail, Eurasian wigeon, shoveler, pochard and Bewick's swans. The site also has rich aquatic fauna and flora, and areas of unimproved grassland.

Welches Dam is a hamlet and former civil parish, now in the parish of Manea, in the Fenland district, in the county of Cambridgeshire, England. It is around 5 miles (8 km) to the north west of Ely. The parish covered an area of 2,355 acres (953 ha). Within the parish boundaries were the hamlet of the same name and the settlement of Purls Bridge. In 1951 the parish had a population of 69. Welches Dam is the site of the visitor centre for the RSPB Ouse Washes reserve.The parish of Welches Dam was surrounded by those of Coveney, Manea, Mepal, and Witcham.

Pymoor is a village in Cambridgeshire in the vicinity of Ely and in the parish of Little Downham. There are approximately 390 residents according to the 2011 census, although that figure probably includes the nearby settlements of Oxlode and Hundred Foot Bank. It is sometimes referred to as Pymore or Pyemoor. In 1997, the earliest spelling on record was decided as the "official" spelling.The name Pymoor means "flies over bog" and the village sign shows a dragonfly settling on a bullrush in marshland. It is on the edge of the Ouse Washes at Welches Dam by the New Bedford River, and as a result geographically a close neighbour of Manea, but many miles away by road. The Pymoor Country and Agricultural show is an annual one day show. A Methodist chapel is the only place of worship. The area around the village was used for filming the 2007 film Atonement.

North West Cambridgeshire is a county constituency represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom since 2005 by Shailesh Vara of the Conservative Party. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election.

Stonea railway station is a former railway station serving the small village of Stonea, Cambridgeshire. Although the station closed in 1966, the line is still in use.

Stonea Camp is an Iron Age multivallate hill fort located at Stonea near March in the Cambridgeshire Fens. Situated on a gravel bank just 2 metres (6 ft 7 in) above sea-level, it is the lowest hill fort in Britain. Around 500 BC, when fortification is thought to have begun at this site, this "hill" would have provided a significant area of habitable land amidst the flooded marshes of the fens. The site exhibits at least two phases of development over several hundred years of settlement, with a D-shaped set of earth banks surrounded by a larger, more formal set of banks and ditches.

Wardy Hill is a hamlet in Coveney civil parish, part of East Cambridgeshire, England. It is also the site of a former Iron Age Hill fort

Ely Rural District was a rural district in England from 1894 to 1974. It was named after Ely, but did not include the city itself, instead covering the rural area to the west and north of it. It formed part of the administrative county of the Isle of Ely from 1894 to 1965, when this was merged into Cambridgeshire and Isle of Ely.

Coveney is a village northwest of Ely in Cambridgeshire. Coveney is on a small Fen 'island' rising to 43 feet (13 m) above sea level, some 3.5 miles (6 km) west from Ely city as the crow flies, but nearly twice that distance by the main road. The village is situated on a by-road which leaves the main Ely–Chatteris road at Wentworth crossroads, about 2 miles (3 km) south. This by-road, which has a branch to the hamlet of Wardy Hill, 1 mile (2 km) west of Coveney village, used to be the only metalled road into the parish. But the droves across Ely West Fen, by Frogs Abbey, to Downham Hythe, and from Wardy Hill to Witcham have recently been made up for wheeled traffic. The Church of England parish church of St Peter ad Vincula is a Grade I listed building.Several artefacts from the late Bronze Age have been found here, including bronze axes, shields and a few swords.

Stonea is a hamlet in Cambridgeshire, England, south east of March and part of the parish of Wimblington. Stonea today consists of a scattered collection of farmsteads and houses, the majority sited along Sixteen Foot Bank, a man-made river which forms part of the Middle Level Navigations. The largest settlement is on the bank near the Golden Lion pub. A former Primitive Methodist chapel is now a private residence.This part of Stonea is dissected by a staffed railway crossing on the Ely to Peterborough Line; Stonea railway station closed in 1966. The underpass neighbouring the bridge (which provides a diversion avoiding the level crossing) is said to be the "most bashed rail bridge in Britain", with 33 truck and van strikes in one 12 month period.

Tipps End is an English hamlet on the B1100 road between Welney and Christchurch, Cambridgeshire. It is also sometimes referred to as "Tips End". It is on the border of the Isle of Ely, Cambridgeshire and Norfolk, 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) to the east of March, Cambridgeshire.
