White Lake (White Lake Township, Michigan)

Highland State Recreation Area is a 5,900-acre (2,400 ha) state recreation area in the southeast part of the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located in north Oakland County, 14 miles (23 km) west of Pontiac. Haven Hill Natural Area, within the Highland State Recreation Area, was designated in 1976 as a National Natural Landmark.

Highland Township, officially the Charter Township of Highland, is a charter township of west Oakland County, Michigan. The population was 19,202 at the time of the 2010 census.Highland Township is a western suburb of Metro Detroit and is located about 18 miles (29.0 km) west of the city of Pontiac and about 45 miles (72.4 km) northwest of the city of Detroit. Highland Township was founded by pioneer families in 1835. A major factor in the development of Highland was the railroad, which allowed lumber to be transported cheaply, and allowed products from the township's early factories to be exported easily. In 2003, in an effort to retain its rural character, as well as preserve its extensive equestrian heritage, Highland declared itself an "equestrian community" and began active support and encouragement of the equestrian presence and related development in the township. In 2006, thanks in large part to the efforts of the Highland Equestrian Conservancy, Highland Township received official recognition by the state government as Michigan's first designated equestrian community.

The Huron Valley Council for the Arts (formerly Highland United Methodist Church) is a historic Victorian Gothic building at 205 West Livingston Road in Highland, Michigan. It was designated a Michigan State Historic Site and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Highland Township purchased this building in 1981 and is now home to the Huron Valley Council for the Arts.

Lakeland High School (LHS), commonly referred to as White Lake Lakeland or Lakeland, is a public high school located in White Lake, Michigan. As of 2023, the current Interim principal is Libby Held. Lakeland opened in 1975, and is in the Huron Valley School District. While the physical school itself opened in September 1975 (for the 1975–1976 school year), a separate class of "Lakeland High School" students attended Milford High School for one year (1974-1975), on a split schedule.

White Lake Charter Township is a charter township of Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. Together with its two unincorporated communities, the township makes up part of the Detroit metropolitan area outskirts. As of the 2010 census, the township population was 30,019.The Huron River rises in White Lake Township.

Milford High School, a public high school in the Huron Valley School District serving students in ninth through twelfth grades, is located in Highland Township in Oakland County, Michigan, near Highland. The school was founded in 1861. After over a century in Milford, the school moved to its present location in Highland Township in 1956. The new high school would survive the 1976 opening of Lakeland High School and has been renovated and expanded several times since. The athletic teams were originally called the Trojans when the school was located in downtown Milford, Michigan. Later the teams were renamed "the Redskins". The mascot was later changed to the Mavericks during the 2002–2003 school year which in turn meant the last graduating class for the Redskins was in 2005. The new athletic team name—the Mavericks—was adopted after a school-wide vote. The school colors are officially cardinal red and white; however, other colors have been featured prominently in athletic uniforms over the years, including maroon, gold, silver, and black. During the late 1980s and through the 1990s Milford excelled in a variety of sports. This trend started when the baseball team finished as state runners-up in 1989. In 1989/90 the men's basketball team had an undefeated regular season and finished 23-1 (That team also featured 5 starters with a GPA above 3.75). The 1990s also produced several All-State Cross Country and Track athletes, along with Milford's first Class A state championship in Equestrian.

The Huron Swamp is a heavily forested wetland located in Springfield Township, in Michigan's Oakland County. It is nine miles (15 kilometers) northwest of the city of Pontiac. It is part of the local Indian Springs Metropark, which is then a component of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks system. Big Lake is to the northwest. The Huron River originates within the Huron Swamp.

The Milford Rural Agricultural School was a school located at 630 Hickory Street in Milford, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992, and demolished in 1995.

Milford is a village in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 6,175 at the time of the 2010 census. The village is located within Milford Township. The village is known for being the home of the Milford General Motors Proving Ground.

The North Milford Village Historic District is a historic district located in Milford, Michigan, including the commercial area along Main Street from the Huron River to Summit, industrial areas around the mill ponds west of Main, and residential areas east of Main. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000.

Walled Lake Northern (WLN) is a public high school in the Walled Lake Consolidated School District, located in Commerce Township, Michigan in Greater Detroit. It was completed in April, 2003 by TMP Associates, Inc. at a cost of $67.5 million. The school serves 1612 students.

Indian Springs Metropark is a park in the Huron-Clinton system of metro parks in the US state of Michigan. The headwaters of the Huron River lie within its boundaries. The park encompasses 2,547 acres (10.31 km2) and is located 9 miles (14 km) northwest of Pontiac. Much of the park is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the natural environment. The park has an 18-hole regulation golf course, an Environmental Discovery Center, an underwater pond viewing room, a splash-n-play park, a life-sized maze, a nature center, an 8-mile paved hike-bike trail, 12 miles of cross country ski trails, and picnic areas.
