Chicago Harbor

DuSable Park is a former commercial and industrial site in Chicago. It is located at the mouth of the Chicago River that has been the subject of environmental remediation and is awaiting redevelopment into a public park. The project, first announced in 1987 by Mayor Harold Washington, is named in honor Jean Baptiste Point du Sable, who settled nearby in the 1780s and is known as the "Founder of Chicago". The development at 400 Lake Shore began construction in 2024.

The Outer Drive Bridge, also known as the Link Bridge, is a double-deck bascule bridge carrying Lake Shore Drive across the Chicago River in Chicago, Illinois, United States. Construction was started in 1929 and was completed in 1937 as one of the Public Works Administration's infrastructure projects in Chicago. The bridge is officially named the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial Bridge to honor the centennial anniversary of the birth of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. It was planned by the Chicago Plan Commission, using Hugh E. Young as the consulting engineer, was designed by the Strauss Engineering Company, built by the American Bridge Company, and erected by Ketler and Elliot Company. It crosses near the mouth of the Chicago River.

Crack the Whip is a sculpture by J. Seward Johnson. The artwork depicts eight children at play. One copy was installed in a cemetery in Flint. The copy at Chicago's Navy Pier was installed in 1996.

Captain on the Helm, also known as Captain at the Helm, is an outdoor bronze sculpture by Michael Martino, installed at Chicago's Navy Pier, in the U.S. state of Illinois. The statue was donated by the Chicago Lodge of Shipmasters International and dedicated on May 19, 2000. A plaque reads, "To those courageous mariners who guided their ships through perilous waters, carrying cargo and people. Their contributions have been so much a part of our history. May they never be forgotten."

Polk Bros Park is a 13-acre (5.3 ha) park at Chicago's Navy Pier. The park features the Peoples Energy Welcome Pavilion, Polk Bros Fountain, and the Polk Bros Performance Lawns, a pair of lawns with stages called City Stage and Lake Stage.

Lake Point Tower is a residential skyscraper located on a promontory of the Lake Michigan waterfront in Chicago, just north of the Chicago River at 505 North Lake Shore Drive. Completed in 1968, it is in the Streeterville neighborhood on the Near North Side. Located adjacent to Navy Pier, the building is the only skyscraper in the city east of Lake Shore Drive. Its tall curved three wing 'Y' shape was an inspiration for the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai, United Arab Emirates by Chicago-born architect Adrian Smith.

400 Lake Shore Drive is a 875-foot (267 m) approved two tower development in the Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago. The project, located at the previous site of the proposed Chicago Spire development, features two connected towers. The towers will have a height of 875 feet (267 m) for the northern tower, and 765 feet (233 m) for the southern tower. Related Midwest is developing the project alongside American architect and lead designer David Childs, of the architecture and urban planning firm Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill. The project had undergone a number of revisions before its approval in 2020.

The Chicago Spire was a skyscraper project in Chicago that was partially built between 2007 and 2008 before being cancelled. Located at 400 N. Lake Shore Drive, it would have stood 2,000 feet (610 m) high with 150 floors and been the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. When originally proposed as the Fordham Spire in July 2005, the design had 116 stories, included a hotel and condominiums, and was topped with a broadcast antenna mast. The building was designed and spearheaded by Spanish architect-engineer Santiago Calatrava and Chicago developer Christopher T. Carley of the Fordham Company. On March 16, 2006, the Chicago Plan Commission unanimously approved the initial design of the building. On November 4, 2016, a court ruling brought the original development plan and the extended litigation over the nine-year-old project to a close. Developer Garrett Kelleher signed over the property location to the project's biggest creditor, Related Midwest, who announced that they would not build the Spire and released their own site.

North Pier Apartments is a 581 ft (177m) tall skyscraper in Chicago, Illinois. It was completed in 1990 and has 61 floors. Dubin Dubin Black and Moutoussamy designed the building, which is the 43rd tallest and the tallest precast concrete panel clad building when completed, in Chicago. The buildings façade has dark gray, maroon, and pink panels in an abstract pattern. It was named after North Pier, a long building to the west along Ogden Slip. It has been described by the architects to be masculine counterpart to the curvaceous Lake Point Tower nearby. The North Pier Apartment Tower was officially renamed "474 North Lake Shore Drive" when the building was converted to condominiums in 2005.

Lakeshore East Building I (also known as Lakeshore East Building 3-I or Lakeshore East Site I) is the address of the as-yet unnamed skyscraper that is part of the 2018 revision of the Lakeshore East development masterplan. The property is located immediately south of Wacker Drive and immediately west of Lake Shore Drive with potential addresses of 475 East Wacker Drive and 300 North Lake Shore Drive. The property, which was approved as part of a Lakeshore East masterplan with a 950-foot (290 m) height, has a storied history. Previous to this urban development, the Lakeshore East area had been used by Illinois Central Railroad yards. In 1993 under the eye of planning commissioner Valerie Jarrett, a par 3 9-hole golf course and driving range was announced for the intersection of Wacker and Lake Shore Drive as an interim development. Pete Dye designed the course, known as Metro Golf at Illinois Center, which was completed in 1994 and closed in 2001.The area was originally planned for development as part of the Illinois Center in 1970, and one of the challenges to the new development was to integrate itself into the inherited triple-level street system while creating a visually appealing and pedestrian friendly neighborhood. The solution was to stagger ground-level amenities and building entrances from the upper level at the perimeter to the lower level at the interior. Thus the multilevel street grid is utilized around the edges, with large parking structures in the podiums, while a large park at the lowest level forms the core of the development. In 2002 the building and the whole Lakeshore East development had been scheduled for completion in 2011, and by 2008 the plan was anticipated to be completed in 2013. These plans included an 875-foot (267 m) building at Wacker and Lake Shore Drive. In 2017 revised plans were unveiled for remaining construction in the masterplan, but they were revised in August 2018 to include an 80 storey building. On mid-October 2018, the Chicago Plan Commission approved the plans that included a 950-foot (290 m) tower as one of four new towers (three in phase I). Chicago City Council approved the plans in an October 31 meeting. Two of the three phase one buildings (the 363-condo/47-story Cirrus and 503-apartment/37-story Cascade) were scheduled for simultaneous summer 2019 groundbreaking with Lakeshore East Building I to follow.

The Chicago Children's Museum is located at Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois. It was founded in 1982 by The Junior League of Chicago who were responding to programming cutbacks in the Chicago Public Schools. Originally housed in two hallways of the Chicago Public Library, it soon began to offer trunk shows and traveling exhibits in response to capacity crowds on-site.The museum moved a number of times over its initial years of existence while it continued to search for a permanent home. In 1995, the Museum thought it found that home when it reopened as an anchor tenant at Navy Pier on Lake Michigan. The new facility offered 57,000 square feet (5,300 m2) of exhibition space and included three floors of educational exhibits, public programs and special events. Upon the move to the Pier, the expansion made it the fourth largest children's museum in the United States. The museum serves more than 650,000 people, both at its Navy Pier location and in communities in and around Chicago, each year. While the Museum has an admission charge, it currently provides free admission to children 15 and under each Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and all-day on the first Sunday of each month.
