On June 12, 2016, Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old man, killed 49 people and wounded 53 more in a mass shooting at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, United States. Orlando Police officers shot and killed him after a three-hour standoff. In a 9-1-1 call made shortly after the shooting began, Mateen swore allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and said the U.S. killing of Abu Waheeb in Iraq the previous month "triggered" the shooting. He later told a negotiator he was "out here right now" because of the American-led interventions in Iraq and in Syria and that the negotiator should tell the United States to stop the bombing. The incident was deemed a terrorist attack by FBI investigators. Pulse was hosting a "Latin Night", and most of the victims were Latino. It is the deadliest incident in the history of violence against LGBT people in the United States, and was the deadliest mass shooting by a single gunman in U.S. history until the 2017 Las Vegas shooting.

Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies (WPHfWB) is a nationally ranked, 285-bed non-profit, women and babies hospital located in Orlando, Florida. WPHfWB is a part of the Orlando Health system. As the hospital is a teaching hospital, it is affiliated with the Florida State University College of Medicine's Orlando campus. Additionally, Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies has a two-story skybridge to connect the hospital to the nearby Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, which it keeps close affiliations to. The hospital contains one of two pediatric training programs in Orlando Health for medical students.The hospital contains all of Orlando Health's gynecological facilities as well as the maternity department, and all neonatal/neonatal intensive care unit services.

Orlando Health/Amtrak station, also known as Orlando station, is a train station in Orlando, Florida. It is served by Amtrak, the national railroad passenger system of the United States, and SunRail, the commuter rail service of Greater Orlando, as well as local and intercity buses. It serves Amtrak's Silver Meteor and Silver Star lines. Built in 1926, the historic station is located approximately one mile south of Downtown Orlando near the campus of Orlando Health. Serving 160,442 passengers at last measure in 2013, The station is Amtrak's fifth busiest in the Southeastern United States; it is the second busiest Amtrak station in Florida, behind the Sanford station of the Auto Train.

Delaney Park is a neighborhood located south of downtown Orlando, Florida, United States. It is named after Monte Delaney. Delaney Park can be noted for brick streets, mix of homes dating from the 1920s to present day, large oak trees, and close proximity to Orlando Regional Medical Center, Winnie Palmer Hospital for Children and Orlando's Amtrak Station. Local public schools include Boone High and Blankner Elementary.

William Rennick Boone High School is a public high school in Orlando, Florida, United States. Built in 1952, the school is one of twenty high schools in the Orange County Public Schools system, created to accommodate the growing number of students at Orlando High School.The plan involved building two high schools, Orlando North and Orlando South, to take the place of Orlando High School and convert the old high school facilities into what is now Howard Middle School. The last principal of Orlando High School, William R. Boone (1892-1952), died of a heart condition before the two new schools were opened, so the school board dedicated one of the high schools in his memory, then christened Orlando North as Edgewater High School after its surrounding community.

The Dr. P. Phillips House (also known as the Peleg Peckham House) is a historic home in Orlando, Florida. It is located at 135 Lucerne Circle, Northeast. On July 10, 1979, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
