Eckington is a neighborhood in Northeast Washington, D.C., located south of the Prospect Hill and Glenwood Cemeteries. Eckington is less than one mile (1.6 km) southeast of Howard University and exactly one mile north of the United States Capitol. Eckington is also the home of the District of Columbia office of Sirius XM Radio. Engine Company 12 is a former fire station and a historic structure located in the Bloomingdale neighborhood and on North Capitol Street in Washington, D.C. The engine company was established on July 1, 1897, with an 1884 Clapp & Jones 450 GPM steam fire engine and an 1887 E. B. Preston hose reel carriage. The three-story brick building was designed by Washington architect Snowden Ashford in the Colonial Revival style. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.

Prospect Hill Cemetery, also known as the German Cemetery, is a historic German-American cemetery founded in 1858 and located at 2201 North Capitol Street in Washington, D.C. From 1886 to 1895, the Prospect Hill Cemetery board of directors battled a rival organization which illegally attempted to take title to the grounds and sell a portion of them as building lots. From 1886 to 1898, the cemetery also engaged in a struggle against the District of Columbia and the United States Congress, which wanted construct a main road (North Capitol Street) through the center of the cemetery. This led to the passage of an Act of Congress, the declaration of a federal law to be unconstitutional, the passage of a second Act of Congress, a second major court battle, and the declaration by the courts that the city's eminent domain procedures were unconstitutional. North Capitol Street was built, and the cemetery compensated fairly for its property. In the 20th century, Prospect Hill Cemetery sold unneeded land, dismantled its chapel, and repositioned the cemetery's main entrance toward North Capitol Street and away from Lincoln Road NE. Established as a burying ground for members of the Lutheran faith, it gradually became a secular cemetery. Prospect Hill remains an active cemetery, and continues to accept burials.

Truxton Circle is a neighborhood of Northwest Washington, D.C. Politically, it is located in Ward 5. Truxton Circle is bordered by New Jersey Avenue to the west; Florida Avenue to the north; New York Avenue to the south; and North Capitol Street to the east. It is bordered By the following neighborhoods: to the north by Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park; to the east by Eckington; to the west by Shaw and Mt. Vernon Square Historic District; and to the south by NoMa. Truxton Circle is named for the former Thomas Truxtun traffic circle, which was located at the intersection of North Capitol Street and Florida Avenue and which was demolished in 1947. It was part of the Shaw School Urban Renewal Area, later known as the Shaw neighborhood.

The New York Avenue Bridge is a bridge carrying U.S. Route 50 and New York Avenue, NE over the Amtrak, CSX and WMATA rails in Washington, D.C. In November 2009, the District of Columbia Department of Transportation began a two-year $36.5 million project to repair the underside, deck and roadway of the bridge. Funds for the project were provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), and the project was the largest ARRA effort in the District of Columbia.

Dave Thomas Circle is the unofficial nickname for a small triangular block in Northeast Washington, D.C. and the surrounding streets and traffic pattern. It is bounded by Florida Avenue, New York Avenue and First Street Northeast, with O Street Northeast and Eckington Place Northeast also terminating along the block. It is located on the eastern edge of the L'Enfant Plan.

Bloomingdale is a neighborhood in the Northwest quadrant of Washington, D.C., less than two miles (3 km) north of the United States Capitol building. It is a primarily residential neighborhood, with a small commercial center near the intersection of Rhode Island Avenue and First Street NW featuring bars, restaurants, and food markets. Most of Bloomingdale's houses are Victorian-style rowhouses built around 1900 as single-family homes. Today, they remain primarily single-family residences, with some recently converted to two-unit condominiums.

Glenwood Cemetery Mortuary Chapel is a historic chapel located in Glenwood Cemetery in Northeast, Washington, D.C. It was built in 1892 in a Richardsonian Romanesque style. It was designed by Glenn Brown. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.

The Ariel Rios Federal Building in the NoMa neighborhood of Washington, DC, is the headquarters of the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) at 99 New York Avenue, NE. The building was completed in 2008, and in 2016 was named for Ariel Rios, an ATF undercover special agent who was killed in action in 1982.The name was previously used for the ATF's old headquarters at 1200 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, which now houses the United States Environmental Protection Agency headquarters and has been renamed the William Jefferson Clinton Federal Building.

John Mercer Langston School is an historic structure located in the Truxton Circle neighborhood in Washington, D.C. The two-story brick building was designed by Appleton P. Clark, Jr. The structure was completed in 1902. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

Glenwood Cemetery is a historic cemetery located at 2219 Lincoln Road NE in Washington, D.C. It is a private, secular cemetery owned and operated by The Glenwood Cemetery, Inc. Many famous people are buried in Glenwood Cemetery, and the cemetery is noted for its numerous elaborate Victorian and Art Nouveau funerary monuments. The cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2017; its mortuary chapel was separately listed in 1989.

John Fox Slater Elementary School is an historic structure located in the Truxton Circle neighborhood in Washington, D.C. The two-story brick building was designed by Edward Clark and completed in 1891. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.
