The United States Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) was created following the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) of 1994. The Act was renewed in 2005, 2013 and again in 2022. The Violence Against Women Act legislation requires the Office on Violence Against Women to work to respond to and reduce violence against women in many different areas, including on college campuses and in people's homes. VAWA requires Office on Violence Against Women to administer justice and strengthen services for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking.The Office on Violence Against Women is headed by a director, who is appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate. The Principal Deputy Director serves directly under the Director as do the Deputy Directors. Until January 2017, Bea Hanson, Ph.D., was the Acting Director and Principal Deputy Director. When Hanson resigned in January 2017, Deputy Director Nadine M. Neufville became Acting Director.As an office in the United States Department of Justice, the Office on Violence Against Women receives federal funding for federal grants that are awarded to communities across America. These grants are used to create successful partnerships between federal, state, tribal, and local authorities as well as provide helpful services to victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. During fiscal year 2017, Office on Violence Against Women awarded $450,000,000 of grants. For example, Sexual Assault Services Program assists victims of sexual assault and family members affected by it. Since its inception, Office on Violence Against Women has awarded over $6 billion in grants directed towards such projects.

"NoMa" (North of Massachusetts Avenue) is a moniker for the area North of Massachusetts Avenue located north and east of Union Station in Washington, D.C., United States. NoMa includes the neighborhoods of Sursum Corda, Eckington, and Near Northeast and includes a section historically known as Swampoodle. NoMa includes: A core area consisting of all the blocks bounded by North Capitol Street on the west, Q Street NE on the north, the Amtrak/MARC railroad on the east and K Street NE on the south, To the south of the core area, one to two blocks west of the railroad tracks/Union Station from K Street south to Massachusetts Avenue, To the northeast of the core area, one to two blocks east of the railroad tracks from K Street north to Florida Avenue, and To the north of the core area, the blocks between First Street NE and the railroad tracks from Q to R streetsNoMa's southern tip at Union Station/Columbus Circle is a half-mile north of the United States Capitol Building. In 2020, the NoMa Business Improvement District put the neighborhood's population at 12,000, of which 6,400 lived in apartments.

Dave Thomas Circle is the unofficial nickname for a small triangular block in Northeast Washington, D.C. and the surrounding streets and traffic pattern. It is bounded by Florida Avenue, New York Avenue and First Street Northeast, with O Street Northeast and Eckington Place Northeast also terminating along the block. It is located on the eastern edge of the L'Enfant Plan.

The Metropolitan Branch Trail (informally, the Met Branch Trail) is a rail trail that, when completed, will run eight miles (13 km) from the transit center in Silver Spring, Maryland, to Union Station in the District of Columbia. It serves to extend the Capital Crescent Trail where it merges with the active WMATA and CSX railroad tracks into the National Capital. At Fort Totten, a connector trail to the Northwest Branch Trail of the Anacostia Tributary Trail System at Hyattsville, Maryland, will be constructed; and an on-street connection to the National Mall will be constructed from Union Station. When completed, the Metropolitan Branch Trail will serve as part of the East Coast Greenway. Seven miles of the trail are within Washington, D.C., and one mile (1.6 km) is in Maryland. The trail gets its name from the Metropolitan Subdivision of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (B&O), which the trail parallels. The remainder of the trail closely parallels the current WMATA and CSX tracks into Maryland. It is anchored by two railroad landmarks: Washington Union Station and the old B&O Railroad Station in Silver Spring.

NoMa–Gallaudet U is an elevated, island platformed station on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's (WMATA) Metro system. It is located on the same embankment as the Amtrak tracks into Union Station. It serves the Red Line, and is situated between Union Station and Rhode Island Avenue–Brentwood stations. NoMa–Gallaudet U is located near the intersection of New York Avenue and Florida Avenue in Northeast Washington, D.C. The station is within the NoMa neighborhood, which is both residential and commercial, and the station itself is in a commercial district on Florida Avenue. The station opened under the name New York Ave–Florida Ave–Gallaudet U on November 20, 2004, as both the system's first infill station and as the first to be built with a mix of public and private funds. Additionally, a portion of the Metropolitan Branch Trail was completed as part of its construction.

The Woodward & Lothrop Service Warehouse is a historic warehouse located in the NoMa neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It was designated a District of Columbia Historic Landmark in 1993, and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. The building is visible from the NoMa–Gallaudet U Metro station.

The Uline Arena, later renamed the Washington Coliseum, was an indoor arena in Washington, D.C. located at 1132, 1140, and 1146 3rd Street, Northeast, Washington, D.C. It was the site of one of President Dwight D. Eisenhower's inaugural balls in 1953, the first concert by The Beatles in the United States in 1964, and several other memorable moments in sports, show business, politics and in the civil rights movement of the 1960s. It had a capacity of over 8,000 people and was a major event space in Washington until the early 1970s. The arena was home to the Washington Capitols of the Basketball Association of America (1946–1949) and National Basketball Association (1949–1950), who were once coached by Red Auerbach. Later, the American Basketball Association's Washington Caps played there in 1969–1970. Once abandoned and used as a parking facility, today it has been renovated and houses offices and the REI's DC flagship store. It is directly adjacent to the railroad tracks heading into Union Station and bounded by L and M Street NE. It is located across from the Metrorail NoMa–Gallaudet U station southern entrance.

The New York Avenue Bridge is a bridge carrying U.S. Route 50 and New York Avenue, NE over the Amtrak, CSX and WMATA rails in Washington, D.C. In November 2009, the District of Columbia Department of Transportation began a two-year $36.5 million project to repair the underside, deck and roadway of the bridge. Funds for the project were provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), and the project was the largest ARRA effort in the District of Columbia.

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent agency of the United States federal government that regulates communications by radio, television, wire, satellite, and cable across the United States. The FCC maintains jurisdiction over the areas of broadband access, fair competition, radio frequency use, media responsibility, public safety, and homeland security.The FCC was formed by the Communications Act of 1934 to replace the radio regulation functions of the Federal Radio Commission. The FCC took over wire communication regulation from the Interstate Commerce Commission. The FCC's mandated jurisdiction covers the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the territories of the United States. The FCC also provides varied degrees of cooperation, oversight, and leadership for similar communications bodies in other countries of North America. The FCC is funded entirely by regulatory fees. It has an estimated fiscal-2022 budget of US $388 million. It has 1,482 federal employees as of July 2020.

Truxton Circle is a neighborhood of Northwest Washington, D.C. Politically, it is located in Ward 5. Truxton Circle is bordered by New Jersey Avenue to the west; Florida Avenue to the north; New York Avenue to the south; and North Capitol Street to the east. It is bordered By the following neighborhoods: to the north by Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park; to the east by Eckington; to the west by Shaw and Mt. Vernon Square Historic District; and to the south by NoMa. Truxton Circle is named for the former Thomas Truxtun traffic circle, which was located at the intersection of North Capitol Street and Florida Avenue and which was demolished in 1947. It was part of the Shaw School Urban Renewal Area, later known as the Shaw neighborhood.

Margaret Murray Washington School, also known as the M.M. Washington Career High School, is an historic structure located in the Truxton Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. It was entered in the District of Columbia Inventory of Historic Sites and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.

The Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company Warehouse and Repair Facility is an Art Deco industrial building, located at 1111 North Capitol Street, Northeast, Washington, D.C., in the NoMa neighborhood which houses the headquarters of National Public Radio.
