Ashdon Meadows

Ashdon, is a village and civil parish in Essex, England. It is about 4 miles (6 km) northeast of Saffron Walden and 23 miles (37 km) northwest from the county town of Chelmsford. The village is in the district of Uttlesford and the parliamentary constituency of Saffron Walden. The village has its own Parish Council.

Bragg's Mill, William Bragg's Mill, Bartlow Hamlet Mill or Stevington End Mill is a grade II listed post mill at Ashdon, Essex, England which has been restored.

Ashdon Halt was a railway station on the Saffron Walden Railway. It opened 14 August 1911 and closed 7 September 1964. The halt was approximately 46 miles 44 chains (74.91 km) from London Liverpool Street station.

Hales and Shadwell Woods is a 15.4-hectare (38-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest north-east of Saffron Walden in Essex. Shadwell Wood has an area of 7.1 hectares and it is managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust. Hales Wood is a National Nature Reserve, and it is listed in the Nature Conservation Review.The woods, which are under half a mile apart, are both ancient coppice wet ash and maple on chalky boulder clay. The shrub layer is diverse, with plants including wayfaring-trees, guelder roses, spurge-laurel and the nationally uncommon oxlip. Seven species of orchid have been recorded in Shadwell Wood, which also has herb-rich grassy rides.There is access to Shadwell Wood by a footpath from Walden Road, but no access to Hales Wood.

Langley Wood is a 31.6 hectare biological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Cambridgeshire, but lying between Saffron Walden in Essex and Haverhill in Suffolk.This ancient wood has coppiced ash and hornbeam, together with maple, hazel and oak. Flora include dog’s mercury, sanicle and the uncommon sweet woodruff.The site is private land with no public access.

Radwinter is a village and a civil parish on the B1053 road, in the Uttlesford district of the county of Essex, England. The population in the 2011 Census was 612 with 306 males and 306 females living in the parish. At re centre of the village is the 14th-century church dedicated to St Mary the Virgin, and a primary school. The village has four outlying hamlets in the district of Uttlesford, between the market town of Saffron Walden (Essex) and Haverhill (Suffolk). In the 1870s Radwinter was described as:The parish comprises 3,802 acres. Post-town, Saffron-Walden. Real property, £5,365. Pop., 946. Houses, 214. The property is much subdivided. Radwinter Hall, Bendish Hall, and the Hill are chief residences.There is much local history of the parish dating back to the 1800s. "The parish was once divided into Great Radwinter and Little Radwinter however this distinction is now lost". There were also four manors in existence: Radwinter Hall, Brockhold's, Bendish Hall and Radwinter Grange. Most of what can be seen today in the centre of Radwinter is the work of the Bullock family; they were Lords of the Manor and rectors or Radwinter.

Sewards End is a village and civil parish in the Uttlesford district of Essex, England. Its area is 1211 acres. It is set in the rolling countryside of north west Essex. The village's village hall is two miles east of the centre of Saffron Walden and one and a third miles from Tesco's store. The population was 511 in 2011 with 124 children under the age of 18 and 87 people aged over 64. The median age was 47. There are about 210 houses in the village (2020). There are 23 listed buildings. The village became a civil parish on 1 April 2004.

Wimbish is a village and civil parish within Uttlesford, in Essex, England. The first recorded mention of the village was in 1042, when it was referred to as Winebisc. It was subsequently referred to as Wimbeis in the Domesday Book. The village has its own non-denominational primary school (Wimbish Primary School) and a church (All Saints). The church tower was partly destroyed by lightning in 1756, and was rebuilt in brick but was later taken down again in 1883.

Bartlow Hills is a Roman tumuli cemetery in Bartlow, Cambridgeshire, England. Four of the original seven tumuli or barrows remain; the largest three are accessible to the public, the northernmost and smallest is on private property and is not easily visible. The remnants of two more are visible as low mounds west of the three largest barrows. The tallest barrow is 15 metres (50 ft) high, and is the largest Roman barrow north of the Alps. The barrows date from the 1st or 2nd centuries CE.Excavations were undertaken in the 19th century (chiefly in 1832–40), discovering remains of large wooden chests, decorated vessels in bronze, glass and pottery and an iron folding chair (most of which were lost in a fire at Easton Lodge in 1847). A small Roman villa, occupied until the late 4th century, was situated north of the mounds and was excavated in 1852. The site saw no further work until a geophysical survey in 2006 and further excavations in 2007, but this work did not establish the location of the villa.

Bartlow railway station was a station in Bartlow, Cambridgeshire on the Stour Valley Railway at the junction with the Saffron Walden Railway. There were two platforms on the Stour Valley line and a separate linked platform for the line to Saffron Walden. The station was 48 miles 79 chains (78.84 km) from London Liverpool Street via Saffron Walden.

Bartlow is a small village and civil parish in the South Cambridgeshire district of Cambridgeshire, England, about 12 miles (19 km) south-east of Cambridge and 7 miles (11 km) west of Haverhill in Suffolk. The River Granta runs through the village.

Nunn Wood is a 9.7-hectare (24-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest between Great Chesterford and Ashdon in Essex.The site is an ancient coppice wood on chalky boulder clay. It is mainly hornbeam with other trees such as pedunculate oak, ash and field maple. The understorey is dominated by bluebells and dog's mercury. Ramsons are common, and there are occasional orchids. The site has the nationally uncommon oxlip, and one of the largest colonies of early purple orchids.A footpath from Bowsers Lane goes through the wood.
