Tree Island (British Columbia)

The Coquitlam River (/koʊˈkwɪtləm/ or /kəˈkwɪtləm/) is a tributary of the Fraser River in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The river's name comes from the word Kʷikʷəƛ̓əm which translates to "Red fish up the river". The name is a reference to a sockeye salmon species that once occupied the river's waters.The river is an 18 km meandering river with 30 tributaries and various morphological features. Owing to the size and area of its location, the river has a history of disastrous floods.The Kwikwetlem first nations were the first humans to live in the area, followed by settlers thousands of years later. After settlers arrived the river would soon be altered many times for the resources it holds. The most recent changes are the generation of hydro-electricity with a dam.The river's long history and importance have led to conservation efforts by different organizations for some of the various mammals, birds, fish, and plants. Some attempts have been made to rejuvenate the salmonid species with hatcheries and direct human intervention to assist wild salmonids. The area is also known to have some species which are included on the BC Species at Risk Act and The Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) lists.

Colony Farm Regional Park is a park along the Coquitlam River in the Tri-Cities area of Metro Vancouver. It is 260 hectares in size. Colony Farm was once one of the most modern and productive working farms in Canada. Today, it provides important habitat for many animal species and over 200 bird species.

Port Mann townsite was created in 1911 in the municipality of Surrey, British Columbia. The new town was to adjoin the new railway yard and roundhouse forming the terminus of the new trans-national rail-line operated by Canadian Northern Railway. It was named for Donald Mann, a partner in the building of the Canadian Northern Railway.: 211  Newspaper quoted that the town was intended to be a model town. Purchase of sections had been completed by 1911 and clearing of the forest had begun. The sale of lots began in March 1912 and by June 1912 all land in the townsite had been sold. Four million dollars worth of land was sold in Port Mann. Borrowing from mid-nineteenth century notions of Baron Haussmann’s Paris, Port Mann was laid out by landscape architect Frederick S. Todd with streets radiating from a central circus in the residential section. The business sector was to cluster around a large open square. In June 1912 the Toronto World also published that Port Mann would be the site of a large scale steel mill by Carnegie Steel Company of Pittsburgh as well as the site of flour mill, and grain elevators by International Milling, and the site of a large dry dock and shipbuilding yards.

The Cape Horn Interchange is a major interchange that connects British Columbia Highway 1 (Trans-Canada Highway) to Lougheed Highway (Highway 7), a heavily signalized thoroughfare in Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, and Burnaby, and the Mary Hill Bypass (Highway 7B), bypassing the Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam sections of Lougheed Highway and forming the quickest route to Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge. It also includes several exits to United Boulevard, a light-industrial and commercial road in southern Coquitlam. The Canadian Pacific Railway mainline roughly follows the alignment of Lougheed Highway in this area, and skirts the south and east sides of the interchange.

Riverview Hospital was a Canadian mental health facility located in Coquitlam, British Columbia. It operated under the governance of BC Mental Health & Addiction Services until it closed, in July 2012. In December 2015, the provincial government announced plans to replace the obsolete buildings with new mental health facilities, scheduled to open in about 2019. As of 2019, several unsafe buildings have been torn down, but no new construction has started.At one time, Riverview Hospital was known as Essondale Hospital, for Henry Esson Young (1862–1939), who played an important role in establishing the facility. The neighbourhood where the hospital is located also became known as the Essondale neighbourhood.

Hard Rock Casino Vancouver (formerly Boulevard Casino) in Coquitlam, British Columbia is the largest casino in the province of British Columbia by gaming space. The casino is open 24 hours a day, is owned by Great Canadian Gaming. According to their 2006-07 annual report, Boulevard Casino was the third most profitable gaming venue in B.C., bringing in more than $158 million for the year (up to $28.9 million over the previous year). The increase is attributed to the new show theatre, where the casino sees up to 5,000 guests on show nights. The funding agreement with the province means the casino must give 10% of its net take to the city of Coquitlam. In 2010 Coquitlam received $8.2 million, which the city put into a community group fund and into major capital projects, such as the new Chimo Aquatic and Fitness Centre in 2008, the Percy Perry Stadium renovation in 2009, the Coquitlam Sports Centre renovation in 2010, and the new City Centre Public Library in 2011. The casino re-branded itself as Hard Rock Casino Vancouver on December 20, 2013, after an agreement with the Seminole Tribe of Florida which owns the Hard Rock Cafe, Inc. and is the legal the franchisor and owner of the Hard Rock brand.

Guildford Exchange is a major public transit exchange serving Guildford Town Centre in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. Opened on May 30, 1975, it is a connection point for routes serving the Whalley, Fleetwood, Guildford and Cloverdale areas of Surrey, as well as Langley Centre. A number of routes using the exchange serve the SkyTrain system via Surrey Central Station.

Hawthorne Rotary Park is a public park in Surrey, British Columbia. The park's main entrance is located along 144th Street and 104 Avenue. There are many other entrances that can be accessed by foot or vehicle. The park has a perimeter of 3.05 kilometers (1.90 mi) and an area of 0.23 square kilometers (0.089 sq mi). The park includes a water park, playground, picnic area, nature trails, ponds and two creeks. Hawthorne Park has a diverse ecosystem that contains a variety of invasive and native plants and animals.

Surrey-Guildford is a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia, Canada, that was created in the 2015 redistribution from parts of Surrey-Tynehead and Surrey-Whalley. It was first contested in the 2017 election. Surrey-Guildford consists of a large part of what used to be Surrey-Tynehead, a provincial riding that was held by the BC Liberals since Dave Hayer was first elected in 2001, and then re-elected in 2005 and 2009.

Guildford Town Centre is a shopping mall located in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. It opened on November 8, 1966, and is owned by Ivanhoé Cambridge, a Quebec-based real estate company. It is the largest mall in the Lower Mainland south of the Fraser River as well as the third-largest in British Columbia, after Metropolis at Metrotown in Burnaby and Park Royal Shopping Centre in West Vancouver. The shopping centre has over 250 stores, services, and restaurants with a gross leasable area of 111,816.6 square metres (1,203,584 sq ft) and its anchors include Hudson's Bay, Walmart, London Drugs, Old Navy, Uniqlo, and Sport Chek. For its 50th anniversary in 2016, it attempted to set the Guinness World Record for the world's largest carrot cake.

Guildford is a town centre and neighbourhood of Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. It is known for its retail corridors along 104 Avenue and 152 Street. At the intersection of these two streets sits the 200-store Guildford Town Centre (also known as the Guildford Shopping Centre). The community is named after Guildford in Surrey, England. Although Guildford is geographically large, the Guildford "area" is locally considered to centre around the Guildford Town Centre mall and its surrounding blocks. A notable landmark in Guildford is the 86-metre (282 ft) tall flagpole, which had been located at the Expo 86 fairgrounds, and was then the record holder for world's tallest flagpole. It is also home to the Guildford Recreation Centre, which is owned and operated by the City of Surrey to serve the recreational needs of local residents. As of the 2016 census, the population of Guildford is 60,745.

Mundy Park at 176 hectares (435 acres), is the largest park in Coquitlam, British Columbia. The park has many walking trails that pass the park's two lakes - Mundy Lake and Lost Lake. There are also sports fields, a lacrosse box, an outdoor swimming pool, disc golf area, picnic area, and playground.The Coquitlam Reds of the B.C. Premier Baseball League play their home games at Mundy Park.Scenes from the 2006 Danny DeVito/Matthew Broderick film Deck the Halls were shot at Mundy Park.There a wide variety of wildlife in Mundy Park, including black bears, deer, raccoons, ducks, geese, swans, and a large variety of other birds. Some endangered plants are also to be found at Mundy Park.Mundy Park was originally named Munday Park after George Munday, who originally bought the land. The reason for the changed name is unknown.
