The Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Rennes or INSA de Rennes is a Grande École d'Ingénieurs, a School of Engineering, under the authority of the French Ministry of Education and Research and part of the INSA's group. INSA Rennes was founded in 1966 to train highly qualified engineers, support continuing education, and conduct research and testing. The five-year curriculum aims at training engineers who possess humane qualities and are well versed in the primary areas of science and engineering. The school accommodates 1,400 students in engineering. The education is divided into two parts: the first cycle, which is a highly selective part of the studies and which aims at giving the basis for future engineering studies, the second cycle, for which the students have the choice of 7 specialties. The Institut de recherche en informatique et systèmes aléatoires is a joint computer science research center of CNRS, University of Rennes 1, ENS Rennes, INSA Rennes and Inria, in Rennes in Brittany. It is one of the eight Inria research centers. Created in 1975 as a spin-off of the University of Rennes 1, merging the young computer science department and a few mathematicians, more specifically probabilists, among them Michel Métivier, who was to become the first president of IRISA. Research topics span from theoretical computer science, such as formal languages, formal methods, or more mathematically oriented topics such as information theory, optimization, complex system... to application-driven topics like bioinformatics, image and video compression, handwriting recognition, computer graphics, medical imaging, content-based image retrieval.

The Jardin botanique de l'Université de Rennes is a botanical garden maintained by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Rennes 1, Avenue du General Leclerc, Rennes, Ille-et-Vilaine, Brittany, France. The garden consists of greenhouses, herbarium, and a collection of plant models: Greenhouses - located on the university's Beaulieu campus. At the start of the 20th century, they were dispersed across Rennes with a botanical greenhouse on rue De Robien and a greenhouse for experimental biology at place Pasteur. When the science faculty moved to the Beaulieu campus in the 1960s, the greenhouses were consolidated. At present, they contain three rooms (temperate, hot and arid, hot and humid) which are used primarily for teaching and genetic research. Herbarium - Nearly 300,000 specimens; open to researchers but not the general public. Wooden models of plants - from the Berlin Museum in compensation for World War II damages. Designed for botanical instruction, they are also remarkable works of art.

Cesson-Sévigné (French pronunciation: ​[sɛsɔ̃.seviɲe]) is a commune in the Ille-et-Vilaine department in Brittany in northwestern France. It is a suburb directly to the east of Rennes, bordered on its west side by the University of Rennes and the Technopole Atalante. It is primarily a residential area for the middle class. The south side is a mix of commercial and industrial areas, the largest to the east of Rennes. One of the French famous grande école Telecom Bretagne also known as ENST Bretagne has one of its campus here. This campus is renowned and reputed for its work in networking domain.

The Jardin botanique du Thabor, also known as the Jardin botanique de la Ville de Rennes, is a compact but significant botanical garden located at the eastern side of the Parc du Thabor, Place Saint-Mélaine, Rennes, Ille-et-Vilaine, in the region of Brittany, France. It is open daily without charge. The garden was established in 1868 and consists of circular walkways around 11 beds growing over 3,000 species. The larger park contains 129 species of trees, including 34 conifer species, as well as 373 shrub species. Its holdings also include about 1500 herbarium specimens. Between 2008 and 2018, the park was renovated. This was complicated by the presence of buxus parasites.
