Jardin botanique de l'Université de Rennes

The Institut de recherche en informatique et systèmes aléatoires is a joint computer science research center of CNRS, University of Rennes 1, ENS Rennes, INSA Rennes and Inria, in Rennes in Brittany. It is one of the eight Inria research centers. Created in 1975 as a spin-off of the University of Rennes 1, merging the young computer science department and a few mathematicians, more specifically probabilists, among them Michel Métivier, who was to become the first president of IRISA. Research topics span from theoretical computer science, such as formal languages, formal methods, or more mathematically oriented topics such as information theory, optimization, complex system... to application-driven topics like bioinformatics, image and video compression, handwriting recognition, computer graphics, medical imaging, content-based image retrieval.

The University of Rennes 1 is a public university located in the city of Rennes, France. It is under the Academy of Rennes. It specializes in science, technology, law, economics, management and philosophy. There are currently about 26,000 students enrolled, with about 1,800 members of teaching staff and 1,700 other staff members employed by the university. In 2023, the University of Rennes 1 will merge with four schools in the "UNIR" project, in order to create a new University of Rennes.

The Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Rennes or INSA de Rennes is a Grande École d'Ingénieurs, a School of Engineering, under the authority of the French Ministry of Education and Research and part of the INSA's group. INSA Rennes was founded in 1966 to train highly qualified engineers, support continuing education, and conduct research and testing. The five-year curriculum aims at training engineers who possess humane qualities and are well versed in the primary areas of science and engineering. The school accommodates 1,400 students in engineering. The education is divided into two parts: the first cycle, which is a highly selective part of the studies and which aims at giving the basis for future engineering studies, the second cycle, for which the students have the choice of 7 specialties. The Rock'n Solex festival is a French student festival, combining Solex racing and music, first held in 1967. It combines Solex races during the day and music concerts every night.

On 17 June 1940, during the latest stages of the Battle of France, the Luftwaffe launched an air raid on Rennes. The airstrike targeted Rennes’ marshalling yards, congested at the time by troop-transport trains and others carrying refugees from northern France. The explosion of two trains loaded with ammunition and high explosives unleashed havoc throughout the railway station and the city, killing between 800 and 2000 people among civilians and Allied military personnel.

The Canton of Rennes-Nord-Est is a former canton of France, in the Ille-et-Vilaine département. It had 18,225 inhabitants (2012). It was disbanded following the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015. The canton comprised part of the commune of Rennes.

The Institute of Research and Technology b-com (French: Institut de Recherche Technologique b-com), stylized and known as b<>com, is one of eight Institutes of Research and Technology endorsed by the French government in 2012. b<>com is a technology pioneer and provider for companies that want to digitally boost their competitive edge. b<>com is chaired by Vincent Marcatté, who is also President of the Images & Réseaux business cluster and Vice President of Open Innovation at Orange Labs. The main campus is based in Rennes, in the Via Silva neighborhood of Cesson-Sévigné. Secondary sites are located in Brest, Lannion, and since September 2016, Paris. b<>com is a member of the French Institutes of Technology (FIT) which encompasses the eight French IRTs.

The Jardin botanique du Thabor, also known as the Jardin botanique de la Ville de Rennes, is a compact but significant botanical garden located at the eastern side of the Parc du Thabor, Place Saint-Mélaine, Rennes, Ille-et-Vilaine, in the region of Brittany, France. It is open daily without charge. The garden was established in 1868 and consists of circular walkways around 11 beds growing over 3,000 species. The larger park contains 129 species of trees, including 34 conifer species, as well as 373 shrub species. Its holdings also include about 1500 herbarium specimens. Between 2008 and 2018, the park was renovated. This was complicated by the presence of buxus parasites.

The Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Rennes (or "Rennes Institute of Political Studies") also known as Sciences Po Rennes, is a French university established in 1991 in Rennes, the regional capital of Brittany. The institution is one of 10 political science institutes in France and is considered one of the grandes écoles.
