Ethnic cleansing occurred during the Bosnian War (1992–95) as large numbers of Bosnian Muslims (Bosniaks) and Bosnian Croats were forced to flee their homes or were expelled by the Army of Republika Srpska and Serb paramilitaries. Bosniaks and Bosnian Serbs had also been forced to flee or were expelled by Bosnian Croat forces, though on a restricted scale and in lesser numbers. The UN Security Council Final Report (1994) states while Bosniaks also engaged in "grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions and other violations of international humanitarian law", they "have not engaged in "systematic ethnic cleansing"". According to the report, "there is no factual basis for arguing that there is a 'moral equivalence' between the warring factions".Beginning in 1991, political upheavals in Bosnia and Herzegovina displaced about 2.7 million people by mid-1992, of which over 700,000 sought asylum in other European countries, making it the largest exodus in Europe since World War II. It is estimated between 1.0 and 1.3 million people were uprooted in these ethnic cleansing campaigns, and that tens of thousands were killed. The methods used during the Bosnian ethnic cleansing campaigns include "killing of civilians, rape, torture, destruction of civilian, public, and cultural property, looting and pillaging, and the forcible relocation of civilian populations". Most of the perpetrators of these campaigns were Serb forces and most of the victims were Bosniaks. The UN-backed International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) later convicted several officials for persecution on political, racial and religious grounds; forced transfer and deportation constituting a crime against humanity. The Srebrenica massacre, which was also included as part of the ethnic cleansing campaign, was found to constitute the crime of genocide.

Kalman Radio is a Bosnian commercial radio station, broadcasting from Sarajevo. Kalman Radio began broadcasting in April 1997. It was formatted as a variety radio station with Bosnian music, talk shows and short national news.

Vlaška (Serbian Cyrillic: Влашка) is a village in the municipality of Trebinje, Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Baščaršija Nights (also known as Nights of Baščaršija; Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian: Baščaršijske noći / Башчаршијске ноћи) is the biggest culture festival in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Taking place throughout July every year, it celebrates various aspects of the nation's culture, and includes performances of classical music, rock and roll and folk music; live theatre; various exhibits and folklore displays; as well as books, film, children's programming, opera and ballet.Performances usually take place outdoors, in the streets of Sarajevo's Old Town district and its historic Baščaršija neighborhood. Admission is free. It is estimated that about 150,000 people attend the festival's 40–50 events each year.The first day of the festival always features a performance by the Sarajevo Philharmonic Orchestra, which is attended by numerous city and canton politicians.A concert by popular Bosnian singer Dino Merlin concluded the festival in 2000. It was held in Stadium Koševo and was sold out. The first Bosnian opera in history was part of the festival in 2003, as well as a performance by local rockers Zabranjeno pušenje.

Collegium Artisticum is a contemporary art gallery in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was established on 6 April 1975 and was named after the short lived artistic movement of the same name which existed in Sarajevo from 1939 to the start of the Second World War. It was founded as the gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s three major Art Associations – Association of Artists (ULUBIH), Association of Applied Arts and Design (ULUPUBIH) and Association of Architects (AABIH). Today it functions as an Public Institution City Gallery Collegium Artisticum and hosts the annual Collegium Artisticum exhibition.

Federalni Radio ("Federal Radio") is a Bosnian entity-level public radio station operated by Radio-Television of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (RTVFBiH). The program is broadcast on a daily basis in Bosnian and Croatian. This radio station broadcasts a variety of programs such as news, music, talk shows, radio-drama, sports, mosaic and children's programs.

Klix.ba is a Bosnian web portal, the fourth most visited website in Bosnia and Herzegovina.It was founded in 2000 as a forum, called Sarajevo-x, and changed its name to the current one in 2012. Every day it reports on information and news from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the world. The author and owner of the Internet portal Klix is the web development company InterSoft d.o.o. from Sarajevo. Surprise financial and administrative inspections are used as a method to punish media outlets after critical reporting in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This was the case of the joint raid conducted on 29 December 2014 by the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) and Republika Srpska (RS) polices at the Sarajevo premises of the klix.ba website, after it had run a story about alleged corruption in the RS National Assembly. The police seized the website equipment and detained four journalists for questioning, whom they released after eight hours. They requested them to surrender the source of a wiretap in which RS Prime Minister Željka Cvijanović is caught saying to have bought two members of parliament to ensure a majority for her party in the Assembly.: 36  The raid had been preceded by a police hearing in Banja Luka, in which Klix.ba journalists had already been required to surrender their sources. According to the journalists, the raid was meant as an intimidation message to all journalists in the country.On 10 March 2015 Klix.ba became the first media from Bosnia and Herzegovina to have a verified Facebook page.

The Jazz Fest Sarajevo (Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian: Sarajevski džez festival / Сарајевски џез фестивал) is an international music festival held annually during the first week of November in Sarajevo and is the largest of its kind in Southeastern Europe.The Jazz Fest Sarajevo is an annual celebration of contemporary music based on jazz and improvised music, and it has been a regular attraction since 1997. The week-long event presents jazz musicians from 60 countries in over 300 concerts.

Radio Miljacka is a Bosnian commercial radio station, broadcasting from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Radio Miljacka began broadcasting on 1 August 2018. and it was formatted as Variety radio station with Bosnian music and Balkan music, talk shows and short news. The radio station is owned by the company Radio televizija 8 d.o.o. Sarajevo, which is also the owner of sister station Radio 8. The program is currently broadcast at one frequency for Sarajevo area 95.2 MHz and the headquarters is located in Stari Grad Sarajevo, Vratnik neighborhood.

Vrhbosna (Serbian Cyrillic: Врхбосна, pronounced [ʋř̩x.bo.sna]) was the medieval name of a small region in today's central Bosnia and Herzegovina, centered on an eponymous settlement (župa) that would later become part of the city of Sarajevo.The meaning of the name of this Slavic župa is "the peak of Bosnia". The only known fortification in the area at the time was Hodidjed. The existence of a significant individual settlement of Vrhbosna was recorded in the 14th and 15th centuries. Vrhbosna was first attacked by the Ottoman Empire in 1416, and it was finally taken in 1451.Vrhbosna persisted shortly after the Ottoman conquest of Bosnia in the name of local vilayet, but soon the name went out of use. In 1550, a Venetian traveller Caterino Zeno was the first westerner to use the term Sarraglio (Italianized form of Sarajevo) instead of Vrhbosna to describe the place.It is nowadays known as the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Vrhbosna, which is the archdiocese that currently serves the Catholics of Sarajevo.

Radio Otvorena Mreža or ROM is the first Bosnian nonprofit radio station, broadcasting from Sarajevo. Radio Otvorena Mreža began broadcasting in February 2012.

Radio M is a Bosnian commercial radio station, broadcasting from Sarajevo.
