Newport is a census-designated place in eastern Newport Township, Washington County, Ohio, United States. It has a post office with the ZIP code 45768. Newport lies along the Ohio River several miles above the county seat of Marietta. Today its main street is designated as State Route 7. The population of the CPD was 895 at the 2020 census. Newport is the location of the Carpenter Bridge, which carries State Route 807 over the Ohio River. It is the first bridge over the Ohio River above Marietta.

Danas Run is a stream in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is a tributary to the Ohio River. Variant names are "Dana Run" and "Dana's Run". Danas Run has the name of William Dana, who operated a watermill on its banks in 1816.

Middle Island Creek is a river, 77 miles (124 km) long, in northwestern West Virginia in the United States. It is a tributary of the Ohio River, draining an area of 565 square miles (1,463 km2) on the unglaciated Allegheny Plateau. It was named by late 18th century pioneering travelers on the Ohio River, who noted the location of the Creek's mouth opposite Middle Island in the larger river.In an artifact of nomenclature, it is often pointed out that Middle Island Creek is the longest stream in West Virginia bearing the name of "creek".

Middle Island is a bar island on the Ohio River at St. Marys in Pleasants County, West Virginia, USA. Middle Island lends its name to West Virginia's Middle Island Creek and lies at its confluence with "The Thoroughfare", a channel of the Ohio River that separates the island from the riverbank. A bridge (currently being renovated in 2019) connects Middle Island to downtown St. Marys. Middle Island is protected as part of the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge.

The Cain House, also known as the Alexander Creel Tavern and the St. Marys Lodge #41 A.F. & A. M. was built in 1850 for Alexander H. Creel in St. Marys, West Virginia. The Cain House provided lodging for travelers along the Ohio River, and functioned as a courthouse for Pleasants County immediately after its formation. The Cain House was named for Zachariah Cain and his family, who operated the tavern in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The house was acquired by a fraternal order, the Maccabees, before becoming home to a masonic lodge in 1957.

Green Run is an unincorporated community in Pleasants County, West Virginia, United States.

The Pleasants County Courthouse was built in 1924 in St. Marys, West Virginia. The Neo-Classical Revival style building replaced the original courthouse, which was badly damaged by lightning in 1923. The new courthouse was designed by architects Holmboe & Pogue of Clarksburg and built by Putnam & Foreman of Marietta, Ohio for $99,963. Ornamentation of the facade was omitted to save costs.

St. Marys was established in 1849 by Alexander Creel, who is said to have had a vision of Mary while passing the townsite by boat on the Ohio River.Train tracks run down the middle of 2nd Street in St. Marys, and freight trains running through the middle of downtown St. Marys are a common sight. It is one of the few remaining towns in the United States where freight trains actually share city streets with automotive traffic.

Belmont is a town in Pleasants County, West Virginia, United States. It is part of the Parkersburg–Vienna metropolitan area. The population was 872 at the 2020 census. Belmont was incorporated on April 19, 1946 by the Circuit Court of Pleasants County. The city was named for the beautiful hills (beau mont) in the area.

First Brother Island is an island on the Ohio River along the shores of the city of Belmont in Pleasants County, West Virginia, USA. French Creek empties into the Ohio on its eastern end. First Brother Island contains a number of operating oil wells.
