First Brother Island

Belmont is a town in Pleasants County, West Virginia, United States. It is part of the Parkersburg–Vienna metropolitan area. The population was 872 at the 2020 census. Belmont was incorporated on April 19, 1946 by the Circuit Court of Pleasants County. The city was named for the beautiful hills (beau mont) in the area.

Broadback Island is an island in the Ohio River in Pleasants County, West Virginia. It is opposite the city of Belmont, West Virginia. Broadback Island is a part of the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge. The island is popular with bird watchers because it serves as a good place to scan for osprey and bald eagles. Along with First Brother Island, closer to the Belmont shore, it is sometimes referred to as Second Brother Island.

Eureka had a post office, which closed on January 16, 1993.The community was named Eureka after oil was discovered in the area.

Danas Run is a stream in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is a tributary to the Ohio River. Variant names are "Dana Run" and "Dana's Run". Danas Run has the name of William Dana, who operated a watermill on its banks in 1816.

The Willow Island disaster was the collapse of a cooling tower under construction at the Pleasants Power Station at Willow Island, West Virginia, on April 27, 1978. 51 construction workers were killed. It is thought to be the deadliest construction accident in U.S. history.

Eureka Island is an island on the Ohio River in Pleasants County, West Virginia southwest of the city of Belmont and Broadback Island. It's named for the nearby West Virginia community of Eureka. The island is a part of the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge.

Newport is the location of the Carpenter Bridge, which carries State Route 807 over the Ohio River. It is the first bridge over the Ohio River above Marietta.

Pleasants Power Station is a 1.3-gigawatt (1,300 MW) coal power plant located near Belmont, West Virginia in Pleasants County, West Virginia. The plant is owned by Energy Harbor and began operations in 1979. The power plant was the site of the Willow Island disaster in 1978.
